The Street was one of the first books that made me cry. The hopelessness, the despair, the destitution, the abandon, the tragedy. I was shattered after reading it. Eva’s man is on my TBR
Yesssss to all of this! It was A LOT. I’m surprised I didn’t cry myself. But I think maybe I was too shocked. Can you imagine being a Black woman in 1946 and reading this??? Wooo
i rewatched the first video! and yes i would love for this to be a series because God knows we need it! you are always coming to our rescue. thank you luv 🙌🏾🛟 💕✨
THANK YOU for part 2 ! Please remember those of us that look for your vids ( like me ) , when you read those annoying comments. People are gonna have their opinions. Nothing we can do about that, but keep focusing on your A-team girlies who keep coming back for you ! We appreciate you 💜💜…..LOVED The Street…..and The Narrows, actually. Ann Petry is almost poetry….and I agree: the audiobook was dope. I read it immersively: audio and paperback together. Loved that experience for this read.
I agree with everything you said about The Street. It was definitely my top read of the year but I was baffled by the end. I have The Narrows on my shelf and will purchase more of her books.
BAFFLED. STUNNED. SHOOK. All the above 😂 I am planning to get to The Narrows before the year ends. I’d like to end my year with a 5 starrrr. I just have faith she’ll come through for us again.
I just finished reading 'Finding Me' by Viola Davis and I really learned something from it. I totally agree on your review of her memoir. On Black Sisters' Street' sounds very interesting. Great recs!
One book I will always recommend is ML Bash's Who You Belong To. I am so in love with this story. It's been a month, and I still can't stop thinking about it. Black women being loved on is my favorite genre.
I Just came across your channel. Thank you for your recs. I just put Black Sisters Street and In every mirror she's Black and This Time Around on my tbr. I read The Street and Finding Me a couple of years ago they were heartbreaking but I loved them. I will be reading The street again.
Welcome to the channel! I too plan to reread The Street. So already 2 books down that you loved. We might have similar taste then 🥳 I hope you love the others!
I read ‘In Every Mirror She’s Black’. I finished and thought about it for days after. It was so good! I’ll definitely be reading book #2. Thanks for the recommendation ❤
Oh you’re so lucky! Glad to know she’s lovely. I’d love to interview her. I’ve got QUESTIONS. I saw that she has a book coming out next year and I’m hyped!
Love seeing ya beautiful face! (And hearing ya accent I’m from Jersey but living in fl the last 7 years so I miss my up north GWORLIES lol) Happy Thanksgiving 🍁
Thank you babes! You know NY and Jersey are cousinssss 😂 I can’t even imagine leaving but I understand why people do. Happy thanksgiving to you and your family as well 💜💜🦃
I should have read The Street via audiobook because whew I clawed to the finish line. I couldn’t get into the florid writing. My voice wasn’t it. I needed a voice actor to inject some life into the narrative. Thanks so much for this perspective. I was perplexed.
OK with the last one, girl I was cracking up yes unfortunately "some of us have lived it" 🥴chile~ lol I felt so seen 😂Loved the video and keep em coming cus at this point why stop? ~'we the people' are looking forward to part 3
Not yet. It’s on my shelves. I must say that everytime I see Jasmine Mans speak I’m like 🤯 so I want to pick it up. I really wanna make 2025 the year i become a poetry girlie 😂
Another banger by CCP! sorry if you made these but some requests: true short books to read, your experience with reading slumps and how to get out, best spicy books, books with conflicting characters (like in Queenie), and maybe about you and your history/background, and how you fell in love with books. Thank you for continuing this in spite of those comments. It is too often that people are hating on the spotlight we make for ourselves. To those people: kick rocks…matter of fact EAT THEM! Love your channel so much. As a BX girl far from home, literally and metaphorically, you make my day!
😂😂 girl I’m crackin up over here. I appreciate you. I didn’t know you was from the BX all this time! Thank you for these requests! I’m open to doing them all. I have done “how to defeat your reading slump” it’s an oldie so I can give it a refresh.
I started IN EVERY MIRROR SHES BLACK very interesting but had to focus on school def will be checking it back out. And yes white supremacy affects us on every continent even Africa girl. We in a chokehold but praying for better days and times.
Going to watch the video in a few but found a book called "sky full of elephants" and thought of u lol. It's a book about how all the white people in America walk into a body of water and never return and how life is without them
Oh I love when yall think of me 🥰 And best believe I read that one as soon as it came out! I loved it. I’d say that should be required reading for allll Black people.
Finding Me was phenomenal! ❤❤❤
It truly was! There was no way I could leave it off this list 🙅🏾♀️
I would thoroughly enjoy this continuing as a series 🥰
☺️🙌🏾 yay! I’m on it

I read Ann Petry's The Street several years ago and it has stuck with me ever since. Very powerful story with a gut punch of an ending.
