    I've met Morris a couple of times when I was in Japan, great guy, and during my last visit in February I met him again in my favourite cafe and he gave me one of the ipump Twist models for free. Been using it since then with no problems.

    Wonderful review. If you want to go higher than 70 PSI, or get there faster, you might want to try the iPump Twist (25g) or the iPump Floor (35g). Thanks and keep up the good work. Morris.

    I have the same Topeak mini pump, that you have (slightly different version). Had it over a decade too. Very robust and reliable, saved me a few times over the years, carry it on every ride. I’m not that bothered about spending that extra money to save 100g or so, especially watching you battle with those micro pumps!

    Hey Reginald great video.
    To me the best frame pumps ever made were the Silca Impero frame pumps from the late 60’s and 70’s ,with the Campagnolo head not the lightest but the most dependable.
    Looking forward to your next video as usual.All the best!

    Hi Reginald. Weight wise, perhaps you should factor in the frame bracket for the mini-pump, but for the Topeak micro you could leave the cosmetic carbon sleeve at home.
    One of my bikes came with a frame pump with the "holdit against the valve with the thumb round the tyre" type. I quickly discarded it because my hands weren't strong enough to hold it on. My mini pump with the clamp (which I still carry on one bike) I bought an old fashioned pump hose to use with it because I did not like the feel of the "rigid" connection to the valve. I have since bought a Lezlyne mini pump which has the disappearing hose like your new one specifically for it and am happy with it.
    On your new pump, the tiny grip at the Oring end looks like a reciept for pinched skin, Ouch.
    Just as well your strenght limits the pressure so there is not the risk of too high and bang because they do not have a gauge.

    • @reginaldscot165
      @reginaldscot165  11 місяців тому +2

      Generally I put all my pumps in my pocket so no need for a frame clip of any kind. I’m too weight conscious for that. 😂 Well the handle is quite uncomfortable but thankfully it’s got a good gap behind it, so no risk of trapping my skin unlike the other pump. 😁👍🏻

    For weight saving it’s far better to empty your bladder and bowels before a ride and use a nice full length high displacement pump. A big sturdy frame fit pump from decades ago can also be deployed to fend off dogs.
    I use a track pump at home

    Out of curiosity I weighed my Barbieri nano pump, it's 38 g, similar construction to the Topeak one. For someone who doesn't care about weight it's a much better deal at around 8 bucks. Also, I think the ringy part you hold onto could be engineered better on the iPump. On the other hand I started carrying RideNow TPUs as spares for my tubeless setup, I have yet to get a puncture big enough that I need to put in a tube, but now I'm a bit afraid whether I can avoid breaking off the valve with the Barbieri :D.

    • @reginaldscot165
      @reginaldscot165  11 місяців тому +2

      38g and only $8? That’s amazing! 😍
      Update: I looked for it online and found it for less than $7! 😱

      @@reginaldscot165 Yeah I'm thinking of putting together a second saddle bag with with a puncture kit for my commuter bike (I always accidentally leave the current one on the bike I last used and forget to bring with me :D). I think I'll order 2-3 of them just in case, but so far that one I have has been great for about a year-year and a half.
      Also there's a lighter carbon version of that too (website says 29g, that's almost as light as the iPump - although it does not have a hose and these are not telescopic).

      @@HUNHali Have you used the Barbieri nano? Does it work ok to get 60 psi in the tire to get you home? Would love some feedback, because there is not a whole lot on the internet about this model.

    • @HUNHali
      @HUNHali 10 місяців тому +2

      @@nugginusslover476 Yes I've used it a couple of times. 60 psi is a bit of a stretch, I'd say more like 50, that is enough for me to get home on 28s wide tyres. Recently I've tried it with ridenow tubes with the flimsy plastic valve stem, I had to be a bit more careful when pumping not to snap the valve, but it worked. I'd say it's worth giving it a try for less than 10 USD.
      It's a good compromise of subpar but just enough pumping power, low price and easy fit into any saddlebag.

    I've got a heavier Topeak one with a pressure gauge. It's very hard to judge how hard your tyres are with just a thumb press. I do long solo rides 30 miles from anywhere, and really don't want to cycle with too flat tyres and risk a pinch puncture. My one does attach straight to the valve without a hose .... which I don't like. I'm on the lookout for a lightweight one with hose and gauge.

    sadly a LOT of these pumps are completely overhyped, poor quality crap, ive had soooo many fail on me over the years ive gone back to C02.
    If anyone could recommend a sub 100g mini pump that absolutely, genuinely works (I only need a measly 72psi!!!!!) then lay it on me!!! the ipump twist actually looks worth investigating!

      Believe it or not the 2 portable pumps I showed in this video are the only 2 I have ever bought in the 20+ years I have been riding. So I’d say the carbon one is very reliable and at 55g perfectly fine. I also honestly don’t think the iPump will be any less reliable, there seems very little to go wrong and even if something did (a cap came off?) you could just glue it back together, it’s just a tube… 🤷🏻‍♂️
      Good luck!

      I'm tempted to give the ipump twist a go, that little handle looks like a big help, i've suffered too many times on the side of the road here in northern UK, especially in winter, trying to pump up a tyre with frozen mitts...nightmare!! Really don't want to continue with single use C02 canisters either....just feels so wasteful.

    What's the hype? It's a lightweight pump because it's small, has small capacity and will take ages to pump up a tyre. Another story was if they made a pump of the same capacity of the others, but lighter.

    • @andreasolsson2336
      @andreasolsson2336 11 місяців тому +1

      No hype. This works, and by that I mean it works for TPU plastic valve stems that lack threads, it has a hose that is basically bombproof and will take the non-axial forces away from the valve stem as well as creating a secure lock on the valve while pumping. In addition, the sense of quality is very high, and it is light and small. Yes, I have one myself.

    No thanks. Holdning the pump with two fingers is inconvenient. Sometimes small is too small. Reminds me of those super-compact "survival kits". These never actually getting any use in the field, but their owners can go on for hours how nicely they can fit a knife, a piece of paper, a saw, a flint, a medical kit, a paracord and a mini compass with the map inside the Zippo case and how it all weighs just 30 grams and how easy it is to hike a K2 with it.

    My take that no one asked:
    If you need 6 minutes of pumping at a side road, sweaty, near speeding cars and trucks, you being a pure climber with flimsy arms and possibly a female looking at your red sweaty face... then it's 21 grams of embarrassment.
    I use that same Xiaomi electric pump since last year and it has saved my skin and my mates countless times. Also, I can lend it to some fellow cyclist in need and actually get up to 100psi or more.

    • @reginaldscot165
      @reginaldscot165  10 місяців тому +2

      An electric pump is definitely an idea, my main issue with them is the small ones tend to not have much battery life. You can get maybe one or two tires out of them at best. The larger ones (that I have) would basically be impossible to carry as they are too large and heavy to fit in my jersey.
      But I will take a look at the pump you suggested and see if it meets my requirements. 😁
      PS. I’m guessing somebody who doesn’t use their arms (e-pump) would have more embarrassing arms than someone that has to use a micro pump. 🤔😄
