Hello Herve, many thanks for this great video. In combination with your clip microphone comparison I took the very right decision and decided against the cheaper t.bone Ovid and got a nicely priced second hand Audix together with the Bassball. That’s beyond what I was expecting. Just great. I think I owe you another cup of coffee.
Great ! I've been using the bassball for years. Sounds great and is easy to use. Yes, the sound is mid-emphazised. On live gigs you have to be careful because you can have a lot of bleeding. It sounds great mixing it with piezo signal. Therefore I used the mic for mids and highs and the piezo for the low end.
Thank you Frowin, it's great to have a comment from someone who has been using the bassball over a longer period of time. And yes, it's a great trick to have highs and mids from the mic and low frequencies from the pickup 👍🏻!
I just received the Audix mic and the Bass Ball from Lando Musik. I’m eager to try it out, but I can’t figure out what to do with the connector. Is it meant to be strapped to the tailpiece in some way, possibly with Velcro? Clapped through the string holes? I got a black plastic clamp with the Bass Ball that seems to be the correct size for the XLR connector, but I don’t know how to attach it.
I can't remember what the connector looks like. But with my ATM35 I just leave it on the floor. I know this isn't ideal, but these mics weren't made primarily for use with a double bass, so we have to live with this little inconvenience. Still, maybe it is possible to attach it to the tailpiece, if you find an attachment solution. I guess the clamp is for attachment to a belt.
I think the bass ball solution is better. I used it with my ATM 35 (the audix sounds similar) and it sounds great. And it is easy to mount. The h clamp + sm 57 feels like a lot of "stuff" attached to the bass, I prefer the discrete bass ball.
I want to thank you for all the effort you make in each video ,, you show a lot of affection and respect towards the public and also towards your instrument ,, I also wanted to ask you if I could buy some transcripts of jazz solos that you have ,, thank you. Abrir en Google Traductor Comentarios
Hi Herve, Does the foam improve the bleeding or it is a just a convenient and silent way to put the mic on the bass ? And would a bigger mic such as a E609 would fit inside the Ball even if it is obviously not design in that purpose ? Thanks !
I didn't test the bleeding "quality" of working with the Bass Ball yet, but I plan to do it. E609: no that mic won't fit, the hole is too small and the mic would be too heavy because it's a very soft foam. You can try to wrap an E609 in another piece of foam that should work.
SM57).
That's a good question and I didn't think about checking if a muting is audible. The foam is so light and soft that I don't think you would hear the difference. But next time I use the ball I will check.

Fantastic, thank you very much for the ☕ coffee!!

This Foam Ball is for Schoeps W5?? Thanks
Where can I buy this?
Do you prefer using this with the Audix ADX-20iP or using an H-clamp with SM57 at a live gig situation? Thanks!

What are these strings Hervé? Pirastro Perpetual? When can we expect a review? :)
A review of Pirastro Perpetual is the next thing on my list 😃. In +/- a week it should be out!

@@stringmatrix merci beaucoup Hervé 😉 en tout cas pour moi c'est acté je vais investir dans ce système .
Where do I get the bassball and mic?
Contact Jonas Lohse of Kontrabass Atelier in Frankfurt.
Did you tried with Arco playing?
Good idea, I concentrated on pizz but I will try to make a very short test just to let you hear.
@@stringmatrix thanks, it will be great and very helpful for me! I am classic double bass player and i think about at 4041..
Does the foam mute the bridge at all?
That's a good question and I didn't think about checking if a muting is audible. The foam is so light and soft that I don't think you would hear the difference. But next time I use the ball I will check.
Can you tell me what is the diameter of the ball?
Yes, 10 cm.
At quick listen, I like 8.
