As someone who’s lost a close family member to suicide, I can say without hesitation that this movie captures the bleakness that’s surrounding your loved one so well. I can’t put my admiration for this searing slow burn performance into words. It’s just too good.
I think you really have to just accept the movie for what it is; art. Films are art, just like music. You have to look at "Last Days" not as a film about Kurt Cobain, but as an art form depicting a very depressed, worn out, strung out, beat up guy. I personally loved Last Days. One of my all-time favorite movies. Gus Van Saint is a genius!
@@folladordeprostis For the most part independently made films. Usually lower budget and usually submitted in the film festivals in attempt to get picked up by major production companys like a 24
The paramedics didn't drop Kurt's body. They dropped Blake's. Big difference. While obviously, the movie is based on Kurt, it is not A. a documentary or B. a movie specifically about Kurt. If it was, the main character would be called Kurt Cobain, not Blake. It takes elements of Kurt's life and combines it with fiction, which I think is actually MORE respectful to Kurt's memory than anything because it doesn't claim to be a specific, dramatized account of his life.
This is really one on the best films Gus has made, along with Elephant in my opinion. It's so beautifully crafted and made. The whole film is so deep and has true meaning.
Michael Pitt’s performance is haunting. I love all of Gus Van Sant’s work but it’s not for everyone. I’m a huge Nirvana fan but it was never meant to be biographical, it’s just an artistic interpretation of what someone like Kurt’s last days may have looked like. Like Columbine and “Elephant”.
I remember when this trailer used to appear so clearly on my old computer, holed up in my room, as a morbid teen obsessed with death and Kurt as I sat there replaying this trailer, and Michael’s performance of “Death To Birth” over and over.
Gus Van Sant did not intend to make this a movie about Kurt Cobain even if the premise is unclear here. It is a fictionalized movie about a musicians last days. Michael Pitt used Kurt Cobain as an inspiration for his character.
its a brilliant movie, incredibly diverse and haunting. the concept is well developed and the mundane voyeuristic approach is ambient and intoxicating to watch.

The last in the "Death Trilogy" of films made [other 2: 'Elephant & 'Gerry'] by Gus Van Sant [plots on real-life events but told in fictionalized accounts] 'Last Days' focuses on the final hours of Nirvana frontman - Kurt Cobain. This trailer is nicely done because it shows (through the song and acting as well as the Oregon scenery) the tremendous sense of isolation and hearbreak felt. I thought the film was entertaining and well done. It resonates because Kurt's death was the death of an era.

I feel the same way, it’s very “human” and simplistic, because that’s how life tends to be and Gus was always adamant saying it was never meant to be biographical or specifically about Kurt, but it’s obviously based on him.
