I have a Yoga 3 Pro and I've had it for 1 1/2 weeks. I love it. Here's what I have to say about it. I'll just go along with the video's points. I use it mostly in tent or stand mode because I generally use it for watching TV shows or sports (I haven't started school yet). Lenovo has a fun and totally unnecessary app that tracks which modes you use the most and I have literally no use for it. Tablet mode I've used once or twice and I agree that it's too heavy to be used like that. However 2.6 pounds is not that heavy to carry around. I can do it with three fingers. It does wobble in stand mode or when I use the touch screen in laptop mode. The screen is fantastic. I've watched devinsupertramp's videos in 4K and plenty of football replays on lastminutegoals. It looks freaking beautiful when it's working. The 4K tends to stick at times so I end up going down to a lower resolution. I haven't had problems with pixels that I know of. The bezel is noticeably gigantic. I see no reason for having such a large bezel but I've gotten used to it. I don't know why they've marketed it for tablet use. YOU CAN'T USE IT IN TABLET MODE EVER. They've said, and many have said, that the M Processor is slower. I don't multitask that much so I couldn't tell you if it's slow. It does, however, get a little warm sometimes. The battery is about 5 hours. That's what One Key Plus tells me--I've never let it die and I plug it in when it gets to probably 60%. What they said about Photoshop is kind of scary. I don't know why you would buy a $1299 laptop if you couldn't use it for high performance or for school. I got the 256 SSD because I use Dropbox and Google Drive so I don't see that being a problem. The webcam is okay. I understand why there's only a front-facing camera, because a camera on the back would only be usable in one of the four viewing modes, so I can see why Lenovo wouldn't add it. I use the USB for charging my phone, Bluetooth headphones, and the laptop. That's why I like that there's 3. The trackpad is okay but it's been not even 2 weeks and it's already kind of greasy and I actually wash my hands regularly. It has more fingerprints already than the s5 I got in June (although I clean my phone screen every month, but just for comparison). I'll probably get a Bluetooth mouse down the line. I actually love the backlit keyboard. I'm fine with how recessed it is, and I like the material of the space around it. But maybe that's just personal preference. I can still type quickly on this keyboard, and it's a lot more responsive than the Surface pro keyboard I most recently used. I love this laptop though. I expect it to get me through the 7 years of my PT program, I like using tent mode and stand mode, and I see myself using it like that in the future for presentations and such. I don't know why they didn't talk about tent mode, it's by far what I use most. The tradeoffs with the battery and the processor don't really make a difference to me considering what I plan to use this laptop for. I love the thinness and the lightness, and especially because I'll be in college I need to have my laptop as light and portable as possible. It sometimes catches me off guard how flexible it is though. I'm not really used to a 360° bend just yet. I'll probably update this review once I've used it for maybe 3 months but right now I'm content with this laptop.
Laptop companies, please stop releasing ultra books with a god damn 3200 x 1800 resolution display. Its overkill. All you do is put extra burden on the graphics card and limit its preformance. A full HD screen or a 2560 x 1440 to should be the max for laptops. Especially 13 inch ones.
How is 2560x1440 somehow acceptable but not 3200x1800? Both resolutions are ridiculous for a 13" laptop. At least for desktop applications. Windows sucks at using high DPI scaling for classic desktop applications (by which I mean apps written using the Win32 API that has existed since win95 -- opposite to WPF or "Modern UI" apps), you get either incompatible apps showing tiny text, or you get blurry content when windows forces the old apps to upscale by upscaling the window contents aftert hey are drawn (bilinear filtered).
karambiatos Intel has become much better in recent years compared what they used to be and Broadwell is again another noticeable improvement, good enough for all 2D tasks.
The Yoga 2 Pro is the one to go for imo. I've had it for a year now and it works great. Decent speedy CPU, light weight, crisp high-res screen, great build quality, great keyboard, and the price is great now too.
I'm currently using the Lenovo yoga 3 pro and its been pretty good so far! I usually use a MacBook pro, so this Is my first windows laptop and it runs pretty good. But I'm comparing it to my 2009 MacBook pro so that's probably not saying much lol
A couple things: 1.) Norm mentioned his ideal resolution being 1920x1080. I disagree, but rather suggest increasing it even more to 3840x2160 (4K). THEN they could ship the device with 200% scaling enabled, which would give Norm the screen real estate he wanted, while also providing super rich clarity in reading text. My 8" Windows tablet with its 1280x800 is just too low PPI when not in Desktop mode and I find myself wishing I had a 1920x1200 screen. 2.) If i'm not mistaken, the Broadwell CPU basically offers the same per-clock performance as Haswell, but doing so while being 100% more efficient. With that being the case, you're comparing Surface Pro 3's 15-watt TDP Haswell with the Yoga's 4.5-watt TDP Broadwell, which isn't a fair comparison. The Broadwell chip they need to compare the Pro 3's Haswell to is a 7.5-watt cpu, which like Norm said, is probably the U-series and isn't due out until later. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, the battery life sucks on these Broadwell-based tablets, which doesn't make sense. People can gladly give up performance in strenuous CPU programs if it nets them 12-15 hours of Battery life.
l used to have a Macbook and I don't care what people think of Apple, I love their products. But I have recently fallen in love with Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro (or now, Yoga 3 pro) and Microsoft Surface Pro 3. I can't decide which one to get. I love that the Yoga 3 pro is almost fan-less and so quiet, but I love how the Surface pro 3 look. I'm just concerned it will get hot, I'm not a fan of hot laptops especially after owning a Macbook Pro 13 inch that tends to get up to 80-90 degrese Celcius.
I would be curious to hear what you think of the Yoga 3 14. Seems to be exactly what you wished the Yoga 3 Pro was. I7 8gb of ram for $1100 with a 1080p screen.
So is this pretty much the Lenovo yoga 13 version 3? Or is the another sub type ? And if so what are the differences between the yoga 13's and just the yogas?
I had a friend ask me about what machines they might want. The surface pro 3 the macair and these lenovos were what I hit on. I don't know if I like that new processors or price, but looks good.
Hey, if you are looking for an ultra book that is almost as slim as the mac air but also powerful, try the asus ux32ln. 13 inch ultra book with a full HD screen and a nvidia graphics card. And reasonably priced. You won't regret it.
are you able to install a classic shell on it? and how would performance do on medium sized files for say photoshop? i would mainly use it to transfer files from camera to a external hard drive on set and basic photoshop.
Would you recommend this ultrabook over the Surface Pro 3? I am looking for a thin light laptop for school work but also doubles for video and photo editing...
Nice, review. Thanks. Does anyone know if the announced U-series of Broadwell will be as light and flat as this ultrabook? Of will it be bigger and heavier?
I'm just holding onto my older Windows 7 laptop for now. I have tried Windows 8/8.1 and just hated it. I have signed up for the Windows 10 trial with Microsoft however. I have been running that on my desktop and I like the fact it is closer in feel to using a Windows 7 desktop than a windows 8 one. Hopefully by the time Windows 10 comes out they will have better versions of those CPUs out that run at much better speeds.
Nice Zen watch Norm... really love the hardware on the Yoga Pro 3...still too in love with my Surface Pro 3 to consider it though, and the Surface IS light enough to use as a tablet unlike the Yoga.
@PhillipMorrison I have the ASUS Zenbook UX51VZ, using it as my main work computer for graphic design. I've added RAM for a total of 12 GB and hooked up a 27" Eizo, which runs at 35 Hz. The track pad is not that good, but everything else totally suits my needs.
I would seriously consider the Surface Pro 3 if it came with a dock-keyboard thing that made it into a bit of a clamshell laptop. I feel like the keyboard they sell is not at all good enough for a product of that price.
I'm not really in the market for anything, just stating my opinion. If I were in the market for something like this though, I probably would go for a cintiq.
Well, Norm, it's "next year" and judging by your reaction to this Yoga's recessed keys, I don't think you'll be liking Apple's new Macbook, either. Same terrible tactility. Same awfully underpowered CPU (more like Broadwell Why?). Probably a better screen and battery life, though, as they stuck with plain RGB matrix and did away with the fan and replaced it with a bit more battery. I guess we'll see how much it thermal throttles without that extra cooling capability.
The resolution is to high for an Intel Core M processor. Full HD is acceptable in a 13,3" ultrabook and Windows 8 does not scale perfectly the UI. I'll buy something different
My yoga pro 2 is a great laptop, however I run the resolution at 900p because of scaling issues. 1080p would be a great improvement. I still have tons of issues with web browsing scaling. Some pages look better than others at different scales, and chrome looks like shit in general
Intel Core M is a family of ultra low-voltage microprocessors belonging to the Intel Core series and designed specifically for ultra-thin notebooks, 2-in-1 detachables, and other mobile devices. The thermal design power (TDP) of all Core M microprocessors is 4.5 watts or lower. Core M are powerfull enough for some office work and heavy surfing but beyond that not so much.
Are people aware that u can actually change the screen's resolution in graphics settings? Like s basic features. . such a fuzz about the resolution, if anything is better then smaller resolution. Just lower the resolution settings. :O
+Natasha Walters I got an xps 13 and sound was crackling. Returned it. Went to HP direct and got a new one. Same model. Sound was very low. Updated drivers. Still sound was very very low. Something is wrong with the sound on xps 13. Don't know what. Other than that it's a solid laptop. But sound is way too low even on max volume. Had to return xps 13. Thinking about getting this as replacement.
i think that Tested videos are really intresting and fun to watch but i think that they have to improve their thumbnails to make the videos more attempting to view :)
First, just change the resolution within Windows to 1920X1080. Scaling in windows is awful unless you only use microsoft apps and metro apps. I feel you were a bit harsh on the screen pixels as well. I have a yoga 2 pro. They fixed the yellow issue. I also have zero issues with the display. I guess if 90% of what you care about is video editing and photo editing then yes the screen matters. Which gets me to my next point. I'm rather surprised you said this couldn't do real work. The applications you are talking about are applications that many people use full size desktops to run. Would you honestly suggest to a person who does video editing 8 hours a day to get a mac book air over a mac book pro?(assuming they needed a laptop). The haswell y processors are overkill for pretty much everyone other than video/photo editors. The ONLY reason I purchased the yoga pro 2 is because I wanted something that did the 2 positions you mentioned at the very start of your video. When I tried the surface for the same thing I just couldn't get used to it on my lap typing. I needed to have the surface so close to me because the stand needed to be on my leg. I also felt the keyboard on the lenovo was superior to the surface keyboards. Neither keyboard is amazing, but you can only get so much if you want thin. You are paying for the slim design and the form factor. If you don't like how the surface pro works as a laptop, you have very few options out there and this is one of them. If you don't want the convertible nature, then there are plenty of other great laptops out there. I still would recommend the yoga pro 2 to anyone who wants a laptop 75% of the time and a tablet like experience 25% of the time. Flip those numbers around and the surface pro probably wins out. Nothing else is close though. Maybe sony will come out with a new version of the flip that doesn't have so much fan noise.
Are there any 15 inch windows laptops with a good trackpad and an i7 processor that aren't way too bulky? My 15 inch macbook pro broke and I need a windows machine but cant seem to find anything.
It's really nice but I expected more. For the price it's just not enough, seriously not enough. I got a Macbook Air, and I was ready to try something similar like this that doubles as a tablet, but it just doesn't entice me :/
Ik this is late....but the sexiest alternative to this is the HP spectre x360 since its what lenovo yoga 3 should have been....360 gear driven hinge....5th gen broadwell core i5 and i7 cpus etc....superior design (macbook like)...hd 5500 graphics....stylus support
PLEASE HELP ME . i bought this yogo 3 pro 5 days ago from best buy . i wanna know if i mad a mistake. what i do with my laptop is alot of web search , youtube Amazon eBay watching movies .. and im on it most of the day . i should say i did get a REAL good deal on the 256g version just under 1000 with a 2 year wrrt from geek squad . sometimes i feel it slow down and i DONT LIKE THAT !!!!! should i get something else ? i only have about 10 days to return .
I happened to see this advertise on amazon earlier for £1,300, which is equivalent to about $2000, right now.. Why would anyone bother at this price? The performance sounds very poor, especially for the price!
and people say MacBooks are expensive for what they can do... i mean looks and designs are not gonna save you in lecture when you have low battery.. this laptop is lower class than the air and yet more expensive, when the air has a battery life of 12 hours, don't get me wrong, lenovo is doing good..ish but they need to pay more attention to the technical specs, don't even get me started on the cpu...
There's no fan in this unit...............what the hell....why didn't you guys research that. core-m doesn't have or use fans, that's the point of the low tdp. smh
If this has an AMD CPU, we'd actually have a chance at a real GPU from a reputable GPU company, but since this uses an Intel CPU, our choices are, include a dedicate Nvidia GPU, AMD GPU, or not have a real GPU. "Intel GPUs: They're better than Mattrox."
really prefer surface over lenovo yoga?,,,, i have had nothing but big issues with all the microsoft surface , bluetooth, wifi, sound, heat,,,, the list goes on and on,,,,,,surface pro 2 replaced 4x times,, surface pro 3 2x times,,,, Surface is a big NO NO..... Love my yoga 3 pro,,,
you review all of the cool stuff this lap top can do but the truth is if you go to all of the forums and You tube repair videos, this lap top doesn't hold up. SSD's bad after a year. Lots of issues with the power cord and not to mention Lenovo's monopoly on purchasing an AC adaptor if yours goes bad which is an issue. Also lots of issues with batteries. I rarely used mine and SSD went bad. It was cool while it lasted but it didn't last long. Reviews online note that SSD's bad after just a year and issues with powering up the Lenovo.
it sounds like lenovo is just marketing this laptop to idiots who only care about numbers, it seems like a waste to me when you can get more power and usability out of 600-700 dollar laptop
I have a Yoga 3 Pro and I've had it for 1 1/2 weeks. I love it. Here's what I have to say about it. I'll just go along with the video's points.

Have you still got it?
Why does it lag
Yo it's been 7 years. Did you complete your PT program with it?

my favourite part is, ridiculous screen resolution, GPU is some horrible intel GPU.

Agree. It's just a copy apple feature. I really don't want that high resolution, but I guess someone wants it.

yeah i heard the Yoga 2 Pro (Haswell) performs better than the Yoga 3 Pro (Broadwell)
damn i was staring at this pixel thing the whole time
teekanne15 what is it?????? I want it
I love my Yoga 2 Pro and use it as a tablet all the time. Yes, it's heavier than my iPad, but its also bigger and has a larger world of apps.

Maybe sony will come out with a new version of the flip that doesn't have so much fan noise.
which one i should buy dell xps 13 or these one??? please reply...
I know it's too late, but dell is much better than this one..
I just purchased one of these badboys for 700$ thanks to black Friday. Woohoo.
+Ernesto Panza how do you like the computer so far since buying it. Have you had a trouble with it?
I had to return mine for a faulty battery issue. I did not like the computer either. No backlit keyboard. Overall weird feeling to it.
+Ernesto Panza thats sad for me i like only lenovo among the rest windows laps
Are there any 15 inch windows laptops with a good trackpad and an i7 processor that aren't way too bulky? My 15 inch macbook pro broke and I need a windows machine but cant seem to find anything.
Lenovo Y series perhaps...
Go with Asus laptops.
Check ASUS
HP Envy! :D
Hp envy
so this or surface pro 3?
What if the USB port doesn't work
guys im in med school. i want to get a tablet to take notes and save them. paper is a pain the ass. so much paper.
what do you guys suggest.
It's really nice but I expected more. For the price it's just not enough, seriously not enough. I got a Macbook Air, and I was ready to try something similar like this that doubles as a tablet, but it just doesn't entice me :/
In my opinion its the best laptop 2014
look at the aijbook 13 bezels, talk about huge ...
2:12 "Cradle it" Nice.
Yeah, the 8 bit frame is cool, but super distracting with a gif on it. Super annoying.
what's a good alternative to this?
Macbook Pro 8gb 13"
Microsoft surface pro 3 or normal surface pro
Evinco it spent even have a touch screen
9:20 Broadwell talk.
Can you install Gnu/Linux on it? Did anyone tried it?
Sad
666Tomato666 Why in particular? Some driver?
666Tomato666 Ah yes, because of the palm detection right? I had that problem under Linux as well with my Synaptics touchpad.
for just writing fiction seems like a good buy if you want to avoid the macbook air and OS X.
No numpad! =(
I happened to see this advertise on amazon earlier for £1,300, which is equivalent to about $2000, right now.. Why would anyone bother at this price? The performance sounds very poor, especially for the price!
Haha @2:12"cradle it"
and people say MacBooks are expensive for what they can do...
i mean looks and designs are not gonna save you in lecture when you have low battery..
this laptop is lower class than the air and yet more expensive, when the air has a battery life of 12 hours, don't get me wrong, lenovo is doing good..ish but they need to pay more attention to the technical specs, don't even get me started on the cpu...
That moving LED thing in the background really doesn't help !
I'm a Mac user but I would take this over the Surface Pro any day.
I cantbhelp but watch the thing jeremy made in the background
My Lenovo laptop started crumbling after a year. Wasn't as expensive at this one. Still pretty lame.
Should've bought a thinkpad if you wanted build quality lol. QC'd by IBM, used by the ISS
krisspykrapper lmaoooo
Where the balls are Adam and Jamie if their names are on the intro.
why do they use chrome??
Chrome is slower then ie11 and safer!
There's no fan in this unit...............what the hell....why didn't you guys research that. core-m doesn't have or use fans, that's the point of the low tdp. smh
yeah very nice but let's be practical - I wouldn't risk the keyboard on my laptop by putting it in them other 'modes'
The tablet mode works perfeclty for watching series on netflix for instance.
really prefer surface over lenovo yoga?,,,, i have had nothing but big issues with all the microsoft surface , bluetooth, wifi, sound, heat,,,, the list goes on and on,,,,,,surface pro 2 replaced 4x times,, surface pro 3 2x times,,,, Surface is a big NO NO.....
Love my yoga 3 pro,,,
#onedaybuilds?
Makes me cringe when they tap the screens of things, who the hell taps a screen like that? It's not like the screens are pressure sensitive.
FINALLY
crying out for a digital pen (wacom)
13:25 fleshlights
this seems gimmicky and pointless. why would you need to put it in stand mode?
These two reviewers seem like they don't like each other. haha
I will never ever in my life buy a laptop with a glossy mirror screen. It's annoying enough on tablets and smartphones.
you review all of the cool stuff this lap top can do but the truth is if you go to all of the forums and You tube repair videos, this lap top doesn't hold up.
The Lenovo Helix is so much better
Not sure how you can something "Pro" that can't do real work.
new dell is basel less
For all your *real* people looking for a laptop, here is my review: NEVER buy a laptop if it is called yoga!
Again Don't buy Surface Pro !! save your soul .
I had MS pro one it was a crap , then I got pro 3 it is even worse. don't buy M.soft crap.
You lost me at "Intel M" M series is garbage and can not really handle any real load other than watching 1080P video. I'll pass.
