  • IVF patients believe that the worst outcome of an IVF cycle is that it can fail and they end up with nothing at all.
While it's true that a failure is heartbreaking, the reality is that what's much worse than a failed IVF cycle with a negative beta HCG is an IVF cycle that ends up with a positive beta HCG and you then miscarry. This is much harder to cope with because it seems as if God has given you something, and then snatched it back again.

Hi Doc, i am almost 38 and have miscarried at 9 weeks just couple days ago and there were no symptoms and only found out after ultrasound when no heartbeat was detected.just two weeks earlier the ultrasound was normal with strong heartbeat. the OBGYN said at 9 weeks its most likely caused by chromosomal anomoly. They recomment a D&C but we opted to allow it to pass naturally, but are still deciding in the next few days what to do. There is also a medicinal option aside from D&C. What is your opinion and what are the chances that the next time an IVF will reduce the chances of early misc due to genetic anomoly? thanks

I agree this is not good news and suggests you have an anembryonic pregnancy ( missed abortion)

Do NOT do a D&C for this. This can cause Asherman syndrome ( intrauterine adhesions).

Ask them to terminate it medically with mifegest and misoprostol
The commonest reason for a miscarriage is a genetic abnormality in the fetus, and this is Nature’s defense mechanism, to prevent the birth of an abnormal baby. While these defects are often random, they are commoner in older women. This is because the eggs of older women have more genetically abnormalities, because they have “aged” and have genetic defects, which cannot be screened for.
The fact you have conceived once ( even though you did miscarry) means your chances
Of having a healthy baby are excellent, so please don’t get disheartened !
We look forward to helping you to have a baby !

Sir my wife went for ivf and got positive result.hcg is doubling for every two days . Recently she got ultrasound scan and doctors confirmed its singleton. Then doctor prescribed hcg 6.5 k injection for every week till end of the first trimister. The doctor said every thing is good but the injection is mandatory for antinatal care .they charge 5000 rupees for short. I personally feel it's very expensive. Does it worth it?

This is because these eggs have more genetic abnormalities, because they have "aged" and have genetic defects, which be do not yet have the technology to be able to screen for.
Don't confuse chromosome testing with genetic testing.
There are only 23 pairs of chromosome . There are 30000 genes, and we can't test for all of them !

Yes, because the placenta produces enough progesterone and estrogen on its own by then
