Can the LEGO Stuntz 60339 Double Loop arena beat Hot Wheels? Well...

  • I finally managed to get the LEGO City 60339 Double loop stunt arena set, and also the my favorite small bike sets, the 60332 Reckless Scorpion Stunt Bike and the best one, the 60333 Bathtub Stunt Bike! I have very high expectations of the double loop set, I really liked playing with Hot Wheels loops and I'm really curious if it can deliver the same playability.

    I feel like the price tag of the big set is so high simply because of the new pieces. By itself that's a good enough reason not to buy this set, but especially since these parts will scratch so easily from the cars driving on them, the price seems even more unreasonable. It's a cool concept, but I wouldn't pay more than 70€ for that thing.

    • @Sjekster
      @Sjekster 2 роки тому +9

      Exactly my thought. That price is insane. Even 70€ is pushing it. It looks so much fun, but I'm gonna make do and make a fun cardboard track or something. Glad I watched this video, so I can permanently scrap it off my list. That bathtub motor cycle is a sure buy though!

    The thumbnail got me really excited but it's a shame to see that the loop thing didn't work as well as I was hoping, fingers crossed that Lego can find a way to make it more functional in the future 😄 Great review!!

  • @The6Guest
    @The6Guest 2 роки тому +20

    Maybe if they had some kind of rails to guide the bikes onto the loops it would help. I have a couple of the earlier sets and understand how aiming the bikes can be a challenge.

    • @Sjekster
      @Sjekster 2 роки тому +5

      The biggest problem is that all the bikes have vastly different centers of gravity and weight, so it is hard to repeat consistent movements succesfully when playing with a bunch of different ones. Tried to get them to make a double jump (2 ramps after each other). Only the one with selfie stick was easy, the rest landed on bum most of the time. There is one with extra set of small wheels at back, that makes awesome wheelies after landing though! They are pretty stable and fast at least.

    I hope lego doesn’t get discouraged and drop this line, having this as a hot wheels fan is a match made in heaven, maybe both companies doing a collaboration attempt would be beneficial to both sides, but only time will tell.

    Very disappointing. “Santa” left the Stunt Arena for my 6yo in December and we had a ton of fun building and playing with it; especially the bikes. He and I were excited for these loops, but the live demonstration at LegoCon was a flop, with zero successful runs.
    Honestly, the bikes alone, or with the simple little orange ramp, provide the most entertainment value and have reliable performance, far exceeding my initial expectations. I appreciate your review to confirm my decision to save my money on this one.

    • @hollowforest198
      @hollowforest198 2 роки тому +2

      That was a really low moment in the Con. I just assumed they were either bad at it and just needed some more attempts. But this review really puts into perspective just how difficult this is and how it doesn't work as well as lego thinks they do.
      I wanna know how this got through legos playtesting, surely the idea that you can get one success from ten tries should've made them go back to the drawing board on this specifically.

    I'm surprised this subtheme even got past prototyping considering how Lego doesn't want to damage or stress their parts. Future pieces for the motorized sections will probably include some kind of built-in wheel at the front, for stability and so that the hard plastic doesn't scratch anything.
    Personally, I hope Lego gets into bendy track sections, maybe not rip the Hot Wheels design for obvious reasons, but find something that works well, especially with Lego rubber wheels. Then I hope bendy car track can translate to the roller coaster track, I was hoping the latest loop set was going to be partially bendy, as that makes sense for loops; but bendy track also makes sense for corkscrews, banked turns, spirals, and other unique segments like hairpins, Lego could reduce a variety of potential pieces into just one piece due to it's flexibility, which would also help expand on the coaster subtheme. I could also see Lego repurposing flexible car track into a bobsled slide, to expand on the wider amusement park subtheme; halfpipes would be cool as well. There's a lot of potential for large bendy pieces if Lego ever figures out how to produce them.

    As a kid I had Darda cars, quite similar to the Hotweels. They worked very well, i still hear their high pitched sound when I think of them. The motors had to be taken apart from time to time because they became clogged with dog and cat hair. The tracks didn't scratch but they did split apart after a lot of assembling. I think a problem with the bikes is their high profile and instability with 2 wheels. Great for a single ramp but unsuitable for a loop.

    I'm not sure how much this would help, but whenever I start having problems with Hot Wheels loops it helps a lot stabilize the track as much as possible. Perhaps using a baseplate underneath would help?

    This set is so expensive! I managed to get the single loop set a little cheaper than the RRP and it's a pretty good experience. I can usually get the bikes around the loop 1 time out of four. The secret is getting the correct entry angle. Straight on will not work, you have to angle the bike to the right to line up with the loops. I would like the double loop set but not until the price is seriously reduced!!

    Wow, like I knew this set is already massively overpriced but the fact that it also doesn't seem to do what it's supposed to do very well really seals it.
    And to make matters worse for this set, because the Stuntz subtheme for City hasn't done particularly well in certain stores of the UK, a lot of the sets have been slashed tremendously by as much as 56% (or crazily, even 90% if you're lucky to find the standalone pullbacks). So, currently at the time of this comment, I could pick up THREE copies of the 60295: Stuntz Stunt Show Arena and Monster Trucks set (reduced from £90 to £40) for LESS than the price of just one these! Or just get one of the arena set and save a tremendous amount!

    i say lego make little cars to go with the stuntz theme, like those polybag cars, i remembered a few years back lego made little cars wether it be nascar looking cars or f1 looking cars, i still have a ferrari front wing piece from one of those sets, plus they actually had a pull back function! to add a nicer feel i think a "this car is made of scraps" kinda look might fit better or just go with purple and black or a paintjob that looks like something similar
    i somewhat understand why the 140 euro price tag but even then it somewhat doesnt make sense with how "unique" the new loop pieces are as they probably arent gonna get much uses. cant really say especially with how creative the moc community is and the fact that literal businesses are made for little details in lego and such, like chromeworld and forwart stickers, so color/detail(print or sticker) isnt much of a problem.
    i think one of the problems with the loop is its too wide, hotwheels cars fit nicely in the tracks and there isnt much room for left to right movement of the car. but with those dimensions and the little polybag cars, mayhaps lego can make the loop pieces work?

    I feel the best this theme has to offer are the individual stunt bikes themselves. For the loops to work properly they'd probably need a freefall/gravity system similar to the loop coaster whereas even with flywheel motors it's very unlikely the bikes can capture the momentum to follow through the loop let alone two consistently. Didn't expect so much wear/tear on the plastic after only an hour of play, yikes. Lego quality control really needs to do a better job. Lose the loops, and you have a pretty decent $45 set I think.

    Well youre video is key difference between hotwheel and stuntz tracks: HotWheel has side walls which keep vehicle in track. In video you make same mistake as me at beginnig: you start with motorcycle far from beginning od ramp. Without side walls and in high speed it can easily happens you miss loop before you enter tracks.with side walls. BUT if you start with motorcycle from beginning of rampe, youre success rate will increase rapidly! Try it! It is really big differece!

    • @RacingBrick
      @RacingBrick  2 роки тому +1

      If you check the video lot of attempts were made starting the bikes right in front of the ramp, actually that's how we tried at the beginning, and it was a very bad success rate for us. Giving them a bit of a run before the ramp seemed to be more succesful, at least for us. But that also shows that there's no consistency in this, something that worked for you might not work for others.
