It's a remnant of old systems and would cost more to redo than it would be worth in the end. The dev team is stretched thin with the more necessary projects as it is, so I doubt they'd have the time or resources to spend on a total rework of the housing system unfortunately 😔
I was having such a hard time finding a window glitch for partitions and you explained what to do so well! My personal quarters look so much better with the partitions as walls

I just could not understand how to do the glitching things upwards for some reason, but it clicked with this video, I'm an idiot and didn't realise you could return items to your inventory, I had been putting them in my storage. So now I can raise things and I'm so happy to go experiment!
I've watched probably half a dozen of these videos before finding your tutorial. Your guide is the easiest to follow and actually helped me with decorating my new house! Thank you for saving me from several hours of frustration trying to get a picture frame to move above a fireplace. :)
One thing that I haven't seen any tutorials mention: for floating items, the speed at which you exit the housing menu when placing the shelf/lift item is super important. I really struggled with this at first because people kept saying exit quickly, but if you exit TOO quickly, the shelf won't "stick" and whatever you're floating won't move up. If you exit too slowly, the shelf will stick but then the item you're floating won't move up. Gotta find the sweet spot in the middle.
The float still happens even if your shelf placing doesn’t ^^ I mean at least that’s what it does to me and I know I’ve discussed it with others in the past, like “Oh isn’t it so nice when you don’t even have to take your shelf back lol” I think it’s more likely there was a different issue for your furnishings not floating that time!
@@AkhRhai Sometimes I get the "Housing action could not be completed" thing which does indeed float the item without placing the shelf, but I feel like that's a different situation? The too fast/too slow issue has been very consistent for me, so I figured I'd mention it in case anyone else had trouble with it, lol. I've gotten comfortable with floating and can do it without much trouble now, but I still have to be mindful of the exit speed or the float doesn't work. (Square, please give us a usable vertical axis so we don't have to trick the game into making furniture fly, lol.) Anyhow, thanks for the vid and the gorgeous builds-learned some new stuff. :D

If anyone else was having major trouble with the place option not coming up in the subcommand even when you had it in estate storage and even after you went into settings and made sure place was a tier one option....I figured it out. If your getting the item out of storage by right clicking it and pressing place and then trying the glitch, it wont work. You have to left click the item from storage and then when you go to glitch it, the place subcommand option will appear. Was pulling my hair out with that one lol

This is probably the most informative yet concise explanation of the various techniques used. Others tend to ramble before finally getting to the point. Thank you! Couple questions regarding your recent, beautiful attic build, some of which I attempted to replicate, with respect to floating the mannequin in the brick wall: (1) After floating the mannequin, you placed a crate underneath. Does this prevent the mannequin from snapping back to floor level? (2) I don't have a healing spec at level 80 yet, so I couldn't obtain the same item you used (Weathered Arbatel Cloak). So instead I used a Ruby Cotton Chasuble (which doesn't work as well because the cape reaches the floor - I don't know of a better alternative). Here's the problem I ran into: - I could float the mannequin in housing mode, but upon exiting housing mode, the object (male Elezen) stood at floor level, with cape touching the ground. Yet, when re-entering housing mode, the mannequin is still floating. When out of housing mode, the male Elezen always stands at ground level (not floating). Is this expected behavior due to item used (Ruby Cotton Chasuble)? Or is it possible to float this item?
Aw, thank you so much!! I’m glad my content was helpful ^^ As for 1: that is exactly the reason! NPCs (and mannequins) need a surface underneath to stay up. And 2: it’s not as much a gear thing as an NPC/mannequin thing, they just behave that way :) they won’t show up the way you float it until after you’ve finished floating, rotated and reset yourself by leaving and re-entering this house. and they need the previously mentioned surface underneath of course!
this tutorial has helped me get as far as ive gotten in house glitching!! but I have one question that stops me from locking the item in place when rotating them: when i have my futon on the wooden loft high where I want it, when I go to rotate the item to lock it in place it turns purple and I cant rotate it and my progress is lost. Any fix for this?
okay so first off, I'm new to housing like ENTIRELY! Because it seemed impossible to even get a house a few friends of mine and I would go to a plot that's on sale and basically treat it as a lottery game. Yeah guess who got a house now... I figured already that the base rooms in small houses look really tiny (esp with a max sized au'ra....)´and now I have the house in shirogane (which was more of a lucky coincidence after I got my house) and I can't seem to get it right... at least my garden looks nice
The same principles applies to all furnishings when it comes to floating them. The troupe stage is tricky because of its size, it's hard to hit the middle. Try using a table instead of your shelf or loft for your first step, like the oriental round table or hingan desk! Then you'll have to angle the camera well to see underneath and use lofts as usual.
What's the trick for creating a new door? Every time I put something in front of my door as far back as it will go (like a white rectangular partition), I can't click to exit he room, even if I can see the Exit text? (Creating the new image of the door won't be an issue)
There are a few items that will block you from clicking the exit (or just make it harder), like the stage panel and shuttered windows will block clicking entirely. I've never had issues with the white rectangular partition but it's possible it might make it a little bit harder? I'd probably just try to move the partition as close as possible and see if you can click it then or look for a different solution
Either you forgot to rotate the items (you can rotate them back where you want them right away) or you haven't floated them high enough is my best guess
This tutorial is super useful, I'm only encountering one problem. I'm floating a chair to hover above a troupe stage to make it look like its sitting on it. But when I leave the room and come back it returns to the floor. Any idea for a solution?
It's possible the chair you have in mind needing to be higher up, but first things first - did you go through the troubleshooting checklist in the video? 👀
If you check the guide again I think you'll find that I describe that the item needs to be in your storage. If it's in your inventory you'll have the option to store, so just put it in the housing storage and do the glitch from there :)
I don't know if you can help at all, but I've managed to float a furnishing with a controller using this technique, but it doesn't allow me to rotate it to snap it in place. Have SE patched it since or will I need to try a keyboard and mouse? I just want to float a fireplace as a mock screen
They haven't patched it out at least, but unfortunately I have no experience doing these glitches with a controller. It is however imperative that you can rotate the object to lock it into place :/

Yes, they are all very much still working! If you don't have the place command, did you maybe try and do it from your inventory rather than the house storage? 👀

When I use the subcommand button for the window placement on the panel the only menu I get is one asking about grid locking. I double-checked my key bind and when I use it. Unsure now where I might be going astray~

@@AkhRhai Honestly, I am completely unable to get it to lift. I've tried stage panel and rectangular white partition as the anchor point. If I place the center of the wall shelf or wooden loft at the futon, the futon just clips into the object.
@@nelzorm6838 it's hard to know where things go wrong of course but I have 2 things you should try: 1. Make sure you place the anchor point (stage panel or partition) a bit off to the side and use a wooden loft to lift with, it's the loft that needs to cover the futon's center 2. Make sure you get the loft as far down as possible on the panel, all the way down to the floor (try step 1 first though)

Or does it have to be 'Move selected object'? I can place shelf with both, so was wondering if it matters. I'm struggling to replicate this glitch.
Did you follow the checklist in the floating guide of this video? The bed is pretty easy to float so that should help you figure out what's going wrong :)
@@AkhRhai I did read the checklist however a) I'm not really sure what the middle of the bed is and where I'm supposed to place my shelf/table in conjunction with it. Also I'm exiting out the menu fast but it just doesn't work :/
All glitches still work, but you can't lift everything, tabletop items must be glitched with the "unlock glitch" and not with the floating glitch, pushing esc quickly after placing an item from your inventory is important to get it to work. just practice.
Lol I keep trying to use the Order of Nald Lectern for a step to the front door but I can't get it to clip through the wall and door like I've seen done in other builds. I'm pretty sure that's the item they used for it, I could be wrong. When I try to place it into the wall it just goes back to storage instead.

I was able to lift up my futon mattress, but I'm having a hard time lifting up a troupe stage.

The subcommand doesn't seem to show the place menu.. "Only Enable Grid Snap" and "Disable Counter Placement". Am I doing something wrong?
is the furnishing coming from the house storage? it shows like that if you have the furnishing in your own character inventory iirc ^^

All my items keep dropping in my apartment. That menu at the bottom I dont see when I do housing mode though... idk if thats why.
Uuuh the tools? You need to rotate the items before you leave, and most things need to be over a certain height to stick even if you do

In your video the item is orange so it recognizes it is on the ground, all of mine remain purple when I go to rotate the item

It doesn't automatically go back into your inventory, you need to click it back when you enter the housing mode again :)

I've tried this floating technique again and again, and it's 2023...it's not working...
