Also for lore(ig) purposes, you should play Journey to the Sun (JTTS) first. It has an actual story in it.
For the record,this is how you beat the game;
Since it is kind of a scatter obby, you sometimes have to go back to somewhere. You have to get the 7 Sacred Flames first before getting to The Sun. Once you enter, step on a platform to free a being nicknamed Sid. Then you ascend to teleport to The Grand Nexus. And then thats the end. You can explore it for urself.
