    I think it's fair to say that we had nothing like this before or after in ESC history. For sure one of Austria's best entries.

    So few songs from 90s Eurovision could hold up at Eurovision these days. This is very much one of them!
    There’s so much TikTok / meme potential in this song and performance, and it’s just an absolute timeless *BANGER!*
    Praise the Lord! 🙏🇦🇹

    My clear favourite from 1996. And one of the best Austrian entries ever. Such a jaunty, powerful, strong feelgood song. Great performance too! :)

    Canción gloriosa al máximo, espectacularmente divina y sin Philadelphia.
    Tema impactante y arriesgado, tan verdaderamente genial e inspirador!!
    George Nussbaumer al piano y su coro te llevan a Georgia en los 50´s.
    Su décima posición con 68 puntos es toda una miseria, pura calderilla.
    La podría escuchar el resto de mi vida y no cansarme. Of course, 12 Points.

    Una verdadera gozada!
    10 puntos!

      @@TheDRMISTERY Gary Lux apparently auditioned for backing this, but it was felt that his voice was unsuitable (makes sense, he is a great vocalist but probably hasn't done much gospel) and so was his dancing (must have watched him in 1983). I love the guy in this.

    I am wondering if the choreography in this served a purpose besides looking entertaining, with George being a blind performer? The dancers go closer to him as the song changes and further away when there is a long stretch with the same pace. Perhaps that made it easier for everyone?

      @JeSuisRene 3 роки тому +1

      Yes - though I am also glad that 12 points were given to the other modern efforts of the year, in particular Croatia and Slovakia giving 12 to Malta, and Belgium and Portugal giving 12 to the United Kingdom.

    • @SuperJNG18
      @SuperJNG18 3 роки тому +1

      @@JeSuisRene I'm not a huge fan of Malta's entry (and knowing how countries like Malta, Croatia, and Slovakia were voting during that era, I don't know how much of it was out of genuine love for the song), but I am glad the UK got two top scores. Ireland and Portugal also deserved every point they got. '96 is still a contender for my favorite Eurovision year ever.

    • @JeSuisRene
      @JeSuisRene 3 роки тому +1

      @@SuperJNG18 I know of the dodgy voting, though the Maltese song is one which has grown on me over time. The performance could have been better, but I feel it is still a strong song. The eventual winner was deserved (to an extent) but my liking of the song has *slightly* worn off over time. Though 1996 is a good year!
