  • We got to drive a Volvo XC40 Recharge for a day and we decided to review it against our Mustang Mach-E. It was a great opportunity to take a look at this surprisingly quick electric SUV from Volvo. We liked a lot about the XC40 Recharge including Android Automotive interface, the ride height, interior quality, and sunroof.
    As Mach-E owners, we were impressed overall by everything about the XC40 Recharge except the range.
    In the end, our recommendation is to try both and decide for yourself!

    Sounds like a fun time. Looking forward to seeing what they create out of it!

    This popped up in my feed and i opted for this instead of the Mach-E mainly due to build quality and some of the creature comforts. Unlike the Mach-E the heat pump is excellent and helps with the range in winter and has dimming side view mirrors. The car just works and reliably. Staggered tires are annoying and i like the ME sizing better. Coming from a Model Y i didnt want another ipad on my dash.
    Great video.

      @@MachE_VLOG I’m curious if the Volvo had the huge center console like the polestar 2. It didn’t appear to have it from what I could tell. How did you like it compared to the polestar??

    • @benjaminsmith2287
      @benjaminsmith2287 2 роки тому

      @@loriallen67 No, only the Polestar 2 has that console. The Polestar 1 didn't have it either. Future Polestars will have a very different look and will have a lot of open space with a 15 inch portrait screen.

    Yea.....I agree. Definitely not flashy. The screen reminds me of those old BlackBerry phones. Thanks for the video. 😷😷👍

      Haha yeah it's hard to switch between big, clean futuristic screens like the Mach-E and this little screen. I don't think it would look so bad if we didn't have the Mach-E as a comparison....but definitely not flashy. - Liv

    My premium Price-To-Value index has the XC40R at #7 for the same reason you opted for the Mach-E:
    1) Chevy Equinox ~ $30K/400 = $75
    2) Fisker Ocean ~ $38K/250 = $152
    3) Nissan Ariya ~ $46K/300 = $153
    4) Tesla Model Y ~ $52K/326 = $159
    5) VW ID.4 ~ $40K/230 = $174
    6) Ford Mach-E ~ $44K/247 = $178
    7) Volvo XC40R ~ $55K/223 = $247
    8) BMW IX ~ $83K/300 = $277
    9) Jaguar I-Pace ~ $70K/234 = $299
    10) Audi E-Tron ~ $66K/206 = $320

    Yeah! You're driving the vehicle I own! BTW just like you swipe forward to close the sunroof shade you swipe back to open it and again swipe back to fully open the sunroof...not just pop it up.

      We also bought this vehicle as well (one of our 2 x EV's). We will be debuting our 1st video on the XC40 this Wednesday morning! (ua-cam.com/channels/0kuAq09sk6GFELrZsu7yNg.html)

    At ~1:53 there was a comment that it’s quite smooth. I’m considering different EVs and found the Mach E to be really bouncy/choppy on rough pavement. Do you recall if the XC40 seemed smoother over bumpy roads? Or separately, have you ever hand a chance to compare the Mach E standard suspension vs the magneride suspension on the Performance Edition?

    • @MachE_VLOG
      @MachE_VLOG  8 місяців тому

      The XC40 is smoother than regular Mach-E suspension but not quite as smooth as the GT PE.

    Is your Mach E a 4X? Kyle from Out Of Specs said he was using your Mach E in a comparison with the Hyundai Ioniq SEL AWD and I thought that was a bad comparison thinking your Mach E was not AWD.

    • @MachE_VLOG
      @MachE_VLOG  2 роки тому +1

      Yep. First Edition Mach-Es are all AWD and Extended Range.

    Would you ever test the C40 since it's more comparable to the Mach-e?

      Oh my gosh we actually got to test one last year for me to do an article and video for A Girl’s Guide to Cars! We have 2 whole videos filmed with it and we’ve never had the chance to edit it! We might just have to try dig it up and crank it out! Here’s my video on it for A Girl’s Guide: ua-cam.com/video/c21yA6RUuCU/v-deo.html - Liv

    I actually ordered one of these last year but wound up canceling the order and buying a Mach-E off the lot. The main reasons I canceled the order was because the range is really not that great especially for the price... Sure one might say that a 200 mi range is plenty for the average user, but not for $60,000. In addition to the very poor efficiency, the charge speed is not fast enough to make up for that poor efficiency. Also I was bothered by the fact that there is no indicator of miles remaining on the gauge cluster, it only shows percentage battery remaining. I could not live with that... If I have some errands to run and all I can see is that it has 27% left, I don't want to have to do math every time I get in the car to try to figure out if I can make it for all of my errands without having to charge. Also, Android Automotive has been really lagging on some features such as Sirius XM radio and CarPlay... I'm not even sure it has it yet and it's been out for over a year. I listen to lots of shows on Sirius so that was a deal breaker for me. The Android integration is great but it can't replicate some of the functions of CarPlay for iphone users.

      Oh man those are great points. Thanks for sharing Adam. To be honest I'm glad both you and we got a Mach-E! On top of all that, aesthetically this vehicle just doesn't do anything for me. Both interior and exterior of the Mach-E are far more compelling. Not indicating miles seems like an incredibly odd choice...I wonder if there is a setting to alter that or perhaps they'll push it soon in an OTA. It's such a huge dealbreaker! - Liv

      Not sure why paying more for a car would result in more range. I think you pay for a brand's name a lot of the time with perceived or real quality of the automobile. Volvos were never cars that got good gas mileage and they don't stress range perhaps in an EV version so you pay for Volvo attributes like a certain level of quality, fit and finish, etc. This XC40 is a hybrid platform as Volvo has yet to introduce cars riding on their bespoke EV platform. That'll come on the market next year and be introduced the end of this year with an EV only SUV that will replace their current XC90.
      At present the Android system in the Polestar 2 seems to be a lot better implemented than in Volvos. But basically, this is an SUV version of the Polestar 2. Both of the cars were designed by Volvo as the Concept 40.1 and Concept 40.2 They share the same platform, suspension, a lot of the same interior switchgear, seats and more. They have very similar performance except the Polestar has a lot more sporty handling. But acceleration is very close.
      Volvo will incrementally improve the range of this car but it can only be improved but so much. I think it's expensive. But it's a good EV. But the better EVs are coming soon from both Volvo and Polestar.

    You can always sell your MachE and get safer and better EV car by choosing next this Volvo XC40 or VW iD.4 GTX or Skoda Enyaq iV80X

      Unless you have some valid evidence to back up your claims, you should remove it. The Mach-E is as safe as those other vehicles and better in many measurable ways - range, efficiency, 0-60, tech features, safety features, etc.
