Well your personal experience does not fair up to unbiased statistics. Consumer reports gives the edge to Volvo.
Drag racing without the noise, smoke and fumes - just the rush of air. The times, they are a changing.
Ha! that last flyby was outstanding. Have to admit though, the finish line camera definitely lacks excitement when there is no exhaust note. Good stuff and hope you had a tow truck following you home!
You will compare electric without giving their charging status? Surprising since the charge rate influences the power available depending on the model.
The Volvo has a speed limiter that I am sure is hurting it on these runs,
@@conditioningclinic Not that I am aware of, Volvo being safety focused I am sure does it for practical reasons.
This was an interesting race. I would prefer the Volvo (I like CSUVs). My wife likes Volvo’s too, but we live in a place where there are not a lot of charging stations for these vehicles, and Volvo is going that route. But I love those interiors. Very good race!
You can buy a hybrid recharge before but it got discontinued a few months ago
the volvo is limited to 112mph, so the tesla will pull away once that mph is reached.
Let’s not forget the MYLR has an optional acceleration boost @ $2k which drops the 0-60 down to 4.2s
which means they're pruposely limiting the power on the standard software...
@@CrazyWeeMonkey you would think that way but it's actual the opposite the devs and engs found a way to get more performance out of the car after it was in production and instead of like most car companies just waiting til next year model and call it new. They put it out for only 2k to upgrade your car.
Nice one Sam. Can we please also have timings and final speeds ? Also, please try half miles if the track allows. Thanks!
Sport mode can be added to the Tesla for 2K its called acceleration boost
Late update, I own one of those, Model Y LR is 425hp, 475tq instant, many did not know this back then, my neighbor has the non long range and couldn’t keep up a race.
interesting to view. Not much more exciting or practical than just weighing the vehicles. Let's see the reliability records after some years and the customer support Volvo has compared to absent support from Tesla.
All I can say, is I have had a very nice experience with Tesla service: They delivered my car, and called me after delivery to answer any questions after a week of ownership, and haven’t had the need to see them again.
I've had my charger stop working and two glass replacements and every time tesla service center has been great and given me a loaner. Not much more i could ask for there.
I own 2021 XC40 recharge for over a year now. Love the dynamics of this car, very stable due to low center of gravity. Volvo feels solid vs Tesla. I'd be interested to see comparison data on survival rate after crash! Volvo is safety.
Well the Model y has been named the safest car in the world by more than one agency. Also had the least likely chance of injury as well. Volvos are safe but Tesla has been making the safest vehicles in the world since Model 3 came out
@@Shiftheads Really! I have heard otherwise from the real Tesla owners on the ground!
Cant wait to see a EV6 vs Ioniq 5 vs Model Y race
Think the EV6 will take it because of the drag koeffisient and more.
And next year comes the EV6 GT…, say no more 😊
Is it better drag coefficient or higher HP or both, that helped the Tesla?
gear ratio and drag+much higher top speed of Tesla. The competitors are keeping with Tesla and I like this fact.
Volvo wins my heart every single bit of the way
When does the Volvo governor kick in?

I like the opening visuals and basic stats like MSRP. Would like to see the old opening music back and the MSRP in CAD as, that's where it's filmed and sometimes prices vary for the Canadian market.
Cheers.
Why the heck would you drag race in chill mode? Lol
Volvo for life !
XC40 is limited to 180km/h unfortunately, so it loses to the Y which has a higher top speed. Volvo basically limited all of their new cars to 180km/h which is a bummer for autobahn people
The polestar fortunately has a higher top speed, and better range - only downside is that it's more cramped
In europe atleast you can pay 500 euros to remove the 180 km/h speed limiter from it.
Here in South Brazil, I bought XC40 PURE ELECTRIC and it'll arrive in may 10th, 2022. My actual car is Volvo XC60 hybrid. Recharge in Home, Car Parking and Shoppings Thank you for test. Marcia from Brazil
Which Model Y is this? Performance or Long Range?
@@proto12qs it does not. Otherwise it would say SPORT instead of STANDARD on acceleration modes :P
If NIO comes to the US maybe that would be a good match up.
Tesla might be quicker once up to speed but I'd definitely choose the Volvo, lovely car 👌👍

75kW battery and 200km less for Volvo in Range
Not justifying but it is a havier car too. I love testla for the software but the interior are kind of simple for the price. IMO
I'm ok with Keith Monson. It's not when you take a test that you have to familiarize yourself with a vehicle...
How fast we drive in US...? Volvo has a speed limit: 110mph. Why should i need a sportmode...? I love the Volvo!
Did you try putting the car into ‘all wheel drive’ which better uses the motors for power
Aerodynamics in the Volvo is not favorable. Recently test drove the c40 twin motor and it has all the performance you need. Quality is excellent as well.
what color was that volvo ? seems to change colors
Please Mercedes Mercedes AMG GTR and Porsche and BMW and Audi roll race waiting
I do love my XC40 Recharge. It has a lot of issues but I love driving it.
I've got one too. But no issues apart from those intrinsic to EV's generally. It is fun to drive, comfortable, and has surprising oomph from stop. If the range were maybe 40 miles more, it'd be the ideal car.
Should start up some Tesla vs the Hyundai EV6 or similar.
Love my petro’s but plug in as well. Tesla’s controller, battery cell and motors output is continuous Kw, very linear. Volvo seems to have discrepancies from peak to continuous variations. Definitely can see the superior platform.
The Volvo is electronically speed limited, and acceleration tails off closer to the limiter. I wonder what the results would be if it wasn't speed limited.
And this is why I got a performance Y.
@@tiborkosasr2108 brainwashed? it's because I like to gap just about everyone in a EV SUV, and there were no good alternatives back in 2021.
Tesla model s plaid maybe a race
Tesla was born on a newly designed BEV platform in house technology....safe a lot of weight.
Weight difference between Volvo and Tesla are the huge gap as cars run by in term of acceleration and consumption. No one can beat Tesla about that. Unless anyother car manufacturer started to build their own BEV car from the ground up.
But! Tesla just go ahead for another step in the new machine JIG design. I can't remember what it's called and it's gonna safe production cost a lot but I'm not sure it's gonna also safe car weight or not...let's see.
With no engine sounds, EV racing videos are way less interesting. I'm sure it's fun from inside the vehicles though!
Yeah I watched the Plaid go around Nürnburg ring, and it was a whole lot of tyres screaming for help. Was weird to watch.
I have a C40, my brother has the Tesla. The Volvo is very very fast - probably a bit quicker off the line though there isn’t much in it.
The Volvo is a much prettier car, though, and way nicer inside. And also not everyone has one :)
The Tesla has a wayyyy better infotainment system and much longer range.
The way I look at it the Volvo is a better car (which just happens to be electric), and the Tesla is a better ground up electric car.
Volvo has never made a car based on performance it’s always been safety first, a average performing safe car to transport a family.
Volvo literally has a tuner division (Polestar), as well as a race team (Cyan Racing).
@@UnobtaniumsQuickReviews Even Volvo’s R version isn’t a pure performance car, all safety precautions remain even it detracts from pure performance.

Volvo doesn’t prioritize to have super fast sporty cars. Volvo prioritize safety
Funny enough...when gasoline vehicles were first chosen over electrics... there were relatively much less traffic on the roads - and so we weren't starting and stopping in traffic all the time...it was more or less a way to get from the outskirts of town into town and back out, or from town to town. That use today - me driving in rural old roads with a 30 year old Swedish car, is still a very fun and not terribly inefficient drive... but as we've piled people and cars into the world, we've created a new environment of urban traffic - stop and go, where fast starts and stop are common - and this is outrageously inefficient for the gas engine, and presents enormous wear and tear on older gas engines and transmissions. Electric cars are the ultimate solution for urban driving - some of it is because the nature of our driving environment has changed so much. What made me think about this is watching these drag race quietly and realizing this was relatively harmless to the cars compared to the stress this would cause the average ice vehicle
Sport mode is a petrol car thing and is unnecessary in an EV. With no gears to change, no exhaust noise to tune and no boost pressure or ignition timing to advance there is nothing left for a sports mode to do. EVs are always in ‘sport’ mode. Tesla have a launch control mode in the S and X that preheats the battery and adjusts the height of the air suspension, but the difference is minimal and they are almost as quick without it.
You guys clearly don't know what the hell you're doing.
Sorry. Lame comparison. You should have switched drivers at some point. The Tesla was not well driven.
Looking forward to ethos. My wife got the recharge. I have a model 3+ Tesla will win.
Great video. The Volvo is much more like a conventional car inside. Now if the Tesla had acceleration boost or was the performance version.
Also the Volvo range is much shorter and has fewer charge options
@Catholic Firefighter Volvo is also eligible for us federal tax credit.
@Catholic Firefighter Tesla no longer eligible for the federal credit. There was a limit of I believe 200,000 vehicles for the credit. The Volvo does get it
@Catholic Firefighter also check your state for rebates. New Jersey has no state sales tax and a tiered rebate system.

The Tesla model Y LR has the same HP/Torque after 50-60MPH as a Performance model Y. So, it is hard to beat the Model Y of any long range AWD variant.
Rubbish! Sounds like your on a justification budget! Drive both and you will see the LR fall way shirt against a performance!
@@vc8160 I have a Model Y Performance...
The Model 3/Y performance have a slightly larger rear motor, but the added rotational mass and weaker aero of the larger wheels makes them even in acceleration to a Long Range model on base wheels at high speeds. I'm pretty sure there are many videos showcasing this. Worst case the Performance model might be the slightest bit faster pulling away.
Do an off road test of these 2 cars.
Well this is a well make up. Best comparison comes if you test Volvo XC alone for 3 times and record the time and then do the same with Tesla now you compare both
Xc40 uses way more "fuel" compared to the model Y. So model Y it is!
The aero of that Volvo is worse... The Tesla is better at cutting through the air. The Volvo bangs into it and tells it to move.
No it’s not the Volvo is way better than Tesla. Volvo is pure luxury Tesla is just a brand that doesn’t care about how long there cars last. Or how long the paint and electrical parts are

No, the XC40 P8 doesn't have a sport mode. It does have two drive modes though. The standard, or One Pedal drive which you would toggle on or off in the Driving menu, or the non-One Pedal, I.e., when you are not in One Pedal which is similar to the MYLR 'Roll' mode. There is more acceleration in the non-One Pedal drive mode on the XC40 P8 because you do not have the motor breaking or regeneration effect. As an owner of a XC40 and also a M3SR+ I am very familiar with both vehicles. You should get more familiar with a vehicle before you say things like it is complicated to see your modes because it is the same in both Tesla and Volvo. You go into the menu and select what you want. PS Volvo XC40 P8 also has an off-road mode, not that such is necessary because who would take a $60k EV off-roading given the lack of any real ground clearance or true off-road suspension. Which vehicle do you prefer?
@@brandon197sf That's just it - Tesla has great tech and far surpasses any OEM right now with the BMS, range ,etc. OEMs are all playing catch up in my and my spouse's opinion on the tech side. The Volvo is a way better car though. The doors close right, lines match up, it just feels better (it is hard to do better than Volvo seats though). I am biased though as I traded in my Volvo S60 for the XC40 P8 that we own now. Now that we have had both vehicles for over a year we are confident in either option. It just matters what you prefer or will deal with. If range anxiety is real for you and you like Tesla' simplistic minimal cabin and charging infrastructure - it's a great choice - enjoy. If you like Volvo's safety track record and the sustainability and the reputation of Volvo standing behind its vehicles and you just love the Scandinavian design that is great too. For me it was Volvo - why - 1) it is taller throughout the vehicle (all the way to the back) and allows my Great Dane to sit down in the back without hitting his head like it would have in the Model Y, 2) I trust Volvo; I believe the commitment to go 100% electric and have sustainability in its supply chain puts Volvo in the place where it has to, has to stand by these vehicles and work with its owner group (as Tesla did in its beginnings) to be successful, 3) I didn't want something that looks different - I love that people do a double take noticing wait that's electric because it doesn't look like it has to be electric, 4) Volvo quality and design - the seats are amazing and traveling 600 miles to family on the coast went off very well with all charging stops successful (though 2 phone calls to EA had to be made to make them such), 5) Google Android Automotive OS (different from Android Auto app) integrating Google voice commands in with the car - "hey Google set temperature to 20 degrees Celsius" and the car AC unit shifts to 20. - It just works. Now - it is not perfect, but I will deal with the little things and my spouse will always want to take the Volvo when we go out on date night or running errands around town on the weekend, but wants their Tesla for their every day driving and for long road trips (a little more faith in Tesla's charging network).
