Belgrade Serbia, Expat Life for two on a $1,400 or €1,200 budget (Belgrade / Beograd 2021)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- We had a great visit with Tanja in Belgrade (Beograd) Serbia. She and her fiancé Ismo are originally from Finland and have called Belgrade home for almost two years. They have graciously volunteered to share their Expat lifestyle and their cost of living budget with us. Their Serbian cost of living falls into the financial parameters of most Americans retired and living on Social Security.
As mentioned in the video Tanja writes a couple blogs, please feel free to check them out at the links below:

Do you want to live abroad as an Expat? Are you looking for affordable and viable options? We are exploring the world to see what it's like to live in a country, and also discover if Residency is an option.
We began our retirement in March of 2020 with the intent to travel the world, spending 1-3 months in a country or location. We want to see what it's like to live there and not simply visit, and we want to share these experiences and the costs with whoever wishes to follow along.
If your looking for a place in Europe to live or retire Serbia may be an option, stay tuned and follow along.

Julie and I retired early not by luck but by planning.
One of our spokes to our wheel for savings, and now an income stream
is Fundrise. Basically we are invested in many apartment complexes around the country.
We get a portion of the rents in the form of dividends, and growth in value with the appreciation
of the properties. We currently have selected an income REIT (Real Estate Investment Trust)
which historically pays between 7.5% - 9% annually in dividends. You can chose a balanced REIT which has a split between appreciation and dividends or a REIT where it's focused on appreciation and not dividends.
Check it out to see if it's a fit for your savings, or retirement strategy. Feel free to share this with those you feel may benefit from this program.

You guys have awesome travels! I enjoy watching them. Keep it up!
Thanks, we are glad you like them 😊
Great content (as always!). Have you considered investing in a better microphone to improve the sound quality? That would be appreciated from a viewers perspective.
We also experienced the dirt road on street last week. But we were happy that we were still able to get up close to the Đura Jakšić Monument!
Cool, thanks for watching. 😊
Amazing Belgrade...
Thanks 😊
Fantastic. I really enjoyed this wonderful video. Thank you.
Thanks 😊
Well said…thanks for saying that for Serbia that means you respect every country that you are in .
Thank you we appreciate your comments. 😊
Unfortunately, Skadarska is under construction with new plumbing and electrical work(it's on many youtube videos to see what it realy looks like). Like much of Belgrade, there is a lot of construction going on. My wife and I are both Serbs, speak the language, and are looking forward to retiring there at least for the warmer months. For Americans/Canadians, the former Yugoslavia and Greece is a much better choice than northern European countries just due to the climate and it's more affordable.
Thanks for watching, I agree you’ll definitely get more bang for your dollar in the former Yugoslavia countries.
Just to clarify. Bit away from "over priced" center of Belgrade, mean 15-30 minutes driving by car. So, Belgrade is not so big city and distances from the center of Belgrade are not big. (comparing to really big cities like LA or New York where one need hours to travel from one part of city to another).
So, one who can use car may find much cheaper and better flat/apartment (luxuriously furnished, larger and newer made) than apartment in center. Apartment in center of Belgrade is for one who prefer to go on foot.
Yes, it’s higher priced in the city center.
Once again great info! Fresh figs! I’d stop too!
Lol, Julie lives her Green Markets, and the figs were great. 😊
Thank you very interesting
Glad you enjoyed it
Welcome to Serbia 🇷🇸
Thanks 😊
You're really tempting me with Serbia! My first choices were Poland and Ukraine, but I am having second thoughts now. Great question for you; when I move to another country, will I pay income tax there for my US originated retirement? Can't seem to find a straightforward answer anywhere.
We are looking forward to exploring Poland and the Ukraine, so stay tuned.
In most cases you won’t pay tax on retirement from another country. If you earn income in a country you may likely have a tax obligation if you reside there, unless you work for a company and are taxed elsewhere. We won’t be in a country more than 90 out of 180 days and are taxed by the US.
@@WarrenJulieTravel Thanks for the info. I am really looking forward to your videos in Poland and Ukraine! I have found some decent houses online in Poland for around $20k. In small villages and not as big as the ones in Serbia, but they will do.
@@westernwanderer8397 Better choose Serbia ,Croatia or Montenegro, much better climate, Poland and Ukraine have a colder climate. Greece is close to Serbia by car for only 6 hours. The food and people are great and much more sun.
@Popcorn Seller Good idea about renting and seeing my options. As for western culture, no thanks, that is exactly what I am getting away from. I am not worried about a language barrier, been learning Russian, Ukrainian, German, and polish for a couple years now. I want old culture, traditions, and morals; I don't want a European version of the US.
Maybe i am wrong, but you will have to pay taxes to US no mather where you live in the world as long as you have their citizenship
"lets not go back to 1999 or early 2000's and stories about serbia's past" should actually be "lets not go back to early 1990's and stories about serbia's past", since 1999 is nothing on us for that matter, it was all nicely packed as one big huge lie just to take away the strategic Kosovo point from the Balkans where NATO could then create their southern Europe military base, which showed how naive most people are and how corrupt media and the politics are. If there wasn't any conflict already on Kosovo, they would have created one themselves (like they did in the 1990's). It was a war crime and a genocide against Serbian people from both sides (Siptars and the whole NATO, led by the USA). I know personally an ex (retired) soldier that served under United Kingdom army back then and who was at Kosovo, he also agreed that there was an infamous "yellow house" where Siptars kidnapped Serbian people and led them there to surgically remove all of their healthy organs in order to sell those on the black market. Hundreds were murdered and tortured this way while NATO approved those actions and did nothing against them, even though they were supposed to be "peacekeepers" over there in the time of escalations... Shows how unjust the whole world is and will always be.
We are trying to watch your Macedonia videos, but unable to find on UA-cam.
It’s not up yet, it’ll be about a week. 😊
young serbs are voting with their feet, saying life is rough. what about the quality of life there?
Young Serbs with low payed jobs ($ 350 a month) .With $ 1000 you can live much better than in US with $ 3000.
If you work for 400$ net , change your job ASAP.
@@bobanristic8721 that i can believe, boban.
@Popcorn Seller i understand that there is still a communist and baksheesh mentality there.
@Popcorn Seller very insightful and useful observations. how do you stay informed?
It’s not a glamorous life on 1400$ usd a month that’s for sure. Belgrade is not a cheap city.
Ne lupetaj.
But Belgrade isn't expensive city with 1400$ you have everything you want quality life maybe not glamorous but excellent quality life
Ultimately the point I was trying to make is there are many other attractive places in Serbia where 1400$ would go much much further. Not that you can’t live on 1400$ in BG
Hmmmmmm!!! So 1400 $ can't give you a glamorous life in Belgrade.
So to be able to go out every day, meet people, take some beers or drinks, have a good apartment, good car and visit restaurants at least minimum twice a week is not good.
Sorry man, but you can live easy 4 times better life in Belgrade with 1400 $ than I live in Denmark
With 3000 Eur per month.
I mean, what's glamorous?
Pouring bottles with Dom Perignon champagne on semi nude girls in strip bars.or!???? 😳🤔
