  • Cutting climbing skins for your touring skis can be intimidating. Learn how I do it stress-free. It's easy! I'll show you how I measure and cut my Black Diamond mohair mix skins to length. Then you'll see how to install the skin hook and tail to your ski. And finally, a step-by-step view on how to trim your climbing skins to fit perfectly to the curves of your skis.
This is a pretty mellow video. You can chill out and watch it in your garage too to get the feel.
    0:00 Intro
1:41 Cut to length with a ruler and knife.
2:35 Assemble the hook onto the skin.
7:33 Remove the protective paper from the glue and apply the skin on the ski base.
8:28 Trim one side of the skin.
9:40 Realign other side of the skin to cut it. Repeat for the other ski.
16:11 Last touch, personalize your skis.
    17:13 Bonus tip
Now that your climbing skins are ready to go, watch this video on doing an easy kick turn: • Easy Kick Turn Techniq...

Great video, thanks for posting. Do you ever melt the edges of the skins to seal them? Mine are getting a little frayed at the edges after a few uses

We have not tried that. When cutting the skins, we recommend using a brand new blade to ensure a razor-sharp cut with no tearing. If your skins are fraying, you can re-cut them narrower to remove the falling threads.

I really love them for everything backcountry. Even if there is not much powder. I use Impulse 112 or 98 for inbounds skiing.

You keep doing things while talking about something else, and then hop in and say "btw assemble this" or do that without showing it. Bad instructional video
