really appreciate the amount of printing you do on each machine you review. Gives us confidence that you tried everything imaginable to see what it's capable of.
The I3 Mega(S) is the best entry level printer when compared to its competitors imo. I love how they give you a spare hotend, ptfe tube, tweezers etc. All you really need to do is upgrade the noisy stepper drivers which you have to deal with anyways for any printer in that price range.
So far one of the worst decisions I made. I deeply regret buying this printer. Keeps breaking, and now I have to practically rebuild The while thing with skr and marlin.
@@CoZaHeca I wish I'd seen your comment earlier. Mine just arrived, today. I spent most of the day assembling it, fixing it, fixing it, fixing it, and fixing it. Didn't print anything.... just many spaghetti. So far i hate this machine, and completely regret the purchase. I was really excited for 3D printing, but this maxhine has completely killed the excitement.
I absolutely love my Anycubic printers, I've never had a problem with them that wasn't my own fault (unlike some other Chinese printers). And Anycubic support is awesome (unlike some other Chinese printers). The Ultrabase is very grippy, almost always hanging on to prints down to about 35-36C, then they just fall off. One warning, though: don't try to print PETG on a bare Ultrabase, it will tear up the surface texture! You can get around it with a liberal coating of UHU stic (the white cap, not the blue or green ones), but I don't recommend risking it. There'll be tears!
I am gonna buy this printer. The only thing I do not understand is the filaments it can print. Does the '' more'' mean it can print PET-G too? As PET-G is a filament I am most excited for and will come in the most useful.
Thanks Joel, this video is what solidified my purchase of the Mega X (the $25 discount code was a nice bonus). As this is my first printer I am still deep into the learning curve but channels such as yours are helping to lower the learning curve. I did replace the Bowden tube with one from Capricorn because everybody and their sister just says it is a better Bowden and I can't say that I disagree. The filament seems to flow very smoothly through it. My first set of owls that came with the printer actually looked amazing and no stringing issues like you had so I consider myself lucky. I will continue to explore the videos on your channel and work on upping my 3-D printing game. One suggestion, could you create a playlist for beginning printers such as myself? You have a ton of content but it would be great to have the playlist dedicated to stuff that us beginners need to know. Thanks again. - Jeff

Glad to have the encouragement from you and I've had great success with it. Going to have to check the screws on my Z access as I still have some stringing issues.

Rob Thomae I have one aswell! My only problem is the size, but any super large prints usually are also able to print in pieces able to fit so it’s awesome. I need to do some mods since mine is currently very loud. I absolutely love how no tape or glue or anything is needed, and I only have fails when a print is extremely small without a brim, otherwise it’s never fails.
I definitely recommend thingiverse part #3537449 for the carriage assembly , recently upgraded my mega s with that and tmc2208 drivers. The quality is outstanding now, with silent printing

@@niffbricks2175 I just got one, but didn't do any prints on it yet, because the PSU was damaged, but at least I know that if I ever had a problem with it, their support is very responsive. I messaged them about it and in a few days they confirmed that they'll send me replacement for free. Much better than any customer support I've ever been writing with. Update: Got my PSU shipped in 3 days and the machine works great! And it's crazy fast: a 40 cm (16 inch) vase in under 4 hours.

it's possible that the z-axis rod wobbling was a tension issue with the trap. nut. The tighter the bolt, the more the alignment of the rod will stress (wobble) when operating. This is just a guess based on observation though, assuming that both sides would probably have to be tightened the same way. Tightening a bolt normally stretches out the screw, messing with the length of the z-axis rods, so that could be a possibility as well. Hope this helps!

Anycubic does it right. Sure they are not the top of the line printers, but they work and they give you way more than you would expect for the cost. The build plate is also amazing. My first printer was a tevo tornado, LOVED it, but it took a LOT of work and tuning to get it working like it should. My anycubic i3 took 10 minutes to put together, 5 minutes to level, and has been printing well ever since.
My first 3D printer was an Anycubic I3 Mega and it is a fantastic machine. It's a well-priced machine and crucially for me as a newbie it comes basically fully assembled, all you have to do is add some screws.
I have a I3 Mega. My biggest question for this machine is: does the heated bed warp? Almost all I3 Mega's have warped beds AFAIK, would be a shame if this one does as well.
Actually the heated beds are not warp. The main problem is in the x and y smooth rods. Rod holders are stretching the smooth rods.(Especially the x axis).
Great video! Having just ordered one of these as my first 3D Printer (it should be here tomorrow!), I'm anxious to see more videos on this printer. I was looking for something easy to get started with, and relatively versatile, and based on your first impressions, I think I made a good choice. I was also watching your videos on the Palette 3s and would love to see it hooked up to the Mega X (hint, hint...), as I'm debating that as a purchase later this year (or maybe a Prusa Mk3 w/ the MMU2), with the intention of printing color 3D landscape tiles.
Anycubic I3 Mega is great workhorse. Great video! You were right on spot when you said it makes useful things. . Many other machines in that price range you have to tweak them and fiddle with to get them to run consistent. Not the Anycubic. I must have researched a couple dozen machines looking for a cost effective machine ready to use, clean logical architecture, robust, user friendly and consistent, before I locked on the Anycubic I3 Mega, when they were first released. With common sense and an educated decision approach, I elected the Anycubic to best fit my purpose and the machines have gone beyond my expectations. No filament type I have used with the Anycubics I3s have been an issue, keeping in mind one has to observe the individual melting point properties of each filament and adjust accordingly. The Ultrabase, is unbeatable!, with touch screen in a low cost machine, filament out sensor and power out resume to print while other brands were trying to catch up to these features were the icing on the cake!. I must add that automatic leveling is a nice feature to have, but I like having a bit of control, and leveling the machines by hand is something I rather do, a personal choice, as this allows me to dial each machine with more flexibility. This may not be ideal for everyone, but since I have also designed my own manufacturing CNC machines this is not an issue for me. A few minutes spent leveling the platform before starting the machine for the first time has been all I had to do and rarely had to go back to re-tweaking them. However, part of any machine consistency, is also consistent preventive maintenance and this should be done regularly, regardless. With regards to the stepper motor to lead screw couplers, the Anycubic I3s use solid couplers, given I have never had to replace mine, flex couplers, as used on CNC machines may smooth out the print quality even further on larger X machine. I am looking forward to the X machine which is in the spec range I wanted and had mentioned in an earlier Anycubic YT video, and also to the company after having used the original I3 Mega, I was wishing Anycubic would produce a larger foot print machine and retain the same architecture, as the original I3 Mega, and call it the Anycubic Xtreme, and now we have that machine! I have posted, at Anycubic Facebook site, a suggestion to Anycubic with a concept photo image of an Anycubic machine which I photo-shoped with what I think would be the next useful thing to have on their I3 and X series machines, a 4" touch screen with 3D Print File Graphical Display, to ease the visual selection of the files in the memory card. While perhaps also having the ability to print multiple files direct from the machine. I have several of I3 Megas and I have designed and printed thousands of parts, for real products I sell via my web site, on these machines. Of course, a great result in manufacturing in the real world, not only has to do with a good machine, but also how the parts are designed and post processed, but I love these machines. Unfortunately I am not a a product reviewer and I have no access to other company machines as many product reviewers do therefore I had to purchase my own machines, but if there is a company out there with a machine that deserves to be fully looked at from a real 3D product manufacturing point of view, look me up. Samples of my work, 3D Printed parts I use in my own design products can be seen via my YT, Facebook, Instagram, and my web site. Thumbs Up!
been using a Mega S for a few months now i got it on sale for 200$ which included 5 rolls of their own PLA, which is actually pretty good, nothing in the same price bracket printed better, but i did hone in the settings to print beautifully with their own brand.. will need more testing.. anyway it already turned a profit in the first month, by this time i have to had made about 400-450$ using it, and a BUNCH of stuff for myself. ultimately it was one of the best purchases i made in 2019.. and this little hobby has become 100X more useful, fun, and rewarding than i had ever imagined before i got this printer.
How are you returning a profit? Are you selling custom prints or selling certain items? I've been considering getting into 3D printing, but don't know if I'll do it unless it returns a profit for the price of the machines
@@Ignotus. well thing is where i live a lot of people are basically tech illiterate, and there is literally no 3d printing business here at all. most people have literally no idea it exists its not very publicized here. i work in a print / design firm as my regular job (printing, t shirt, graphics design etc.) so i get a lot of client overlap there that i can take advantage of i have been 3D modelling in several programs for years before (i studied architectural design so i know the software) and i charge for custom design work and printing / prototyping. since i am MUCH cheaper than taking it to a woodworker or metal worker to make the shape, i get decent business prototyping products for people. that is a big revenue source but its kinda rare. i do a lot of one off prints of useful stuff for people.. like say " i broke this piece and i need to replace it but you can't find the part" so i model it and print it.. i also, which is my favorite, make jewelry and decor stuff that sell, planters, necklaces (they sell very well) table knick-knacks, figurines, small presents, car stuff like phone mounts, grates shift knobs etc. PC parts, like gpu vertical mounts, sag support, brackets/mounts for water cooling, cable combs etc, also made a lot of covid Mask covers and Halloween masks / decor Christmas decor.. made display stuff for stores like putting leds in parts etc. also made a limited amount of furniture that included parts i 3d printed. i did go out and buy an Anycubic Photon Resin Printer as well for smaller more detailed work like figurines and the like. it leaves a nice smooth surface, an you can print a lot faster with it. the relatively small size , and higher material cost of a resin printer does limit what you can do with it .. BUT the Photon Mono X i got is massive for a resin printer tho. Most more affordable variants like the Mono Zero are perfect for small stuff ( most stuff i use the X for would fir on this tiny printer btw, i just had the money to spare ad i like to have the option) price / performance wise im very satisfied with Anycubic, but you can always go for a better brand like say prusa, monoprice, fomlabs etc. i combine the 3d printing with woodworking, some metal machining, Epoxy molding, printing, lasercutting/engraving (laser at my workplace) and electrical engineering (my dad is an electrical engineer so learned from him) to make almost anything i need around the house or anything a client wants. With how versatile a 3d printer is i can guarantee you can find a good use for it, especially if there isn't someone doing it more seriously nearby. and if you need free software to model i can recommend Google Sketchup WEB for starters ( app dot sketchup) its browser based don't have to install anything, super easy to learn and use, and can download to an STL file that you can use in your slicer of choice, i like CURA.. but BE WARNED if you have a ryzen 1000/2000 CPU CURA WILL crash your pc to Black screen if you leave it running too long!. its got progressively better recently with new updates but it still does it sometimes. sorry for the long rant, if you need any help, or even want some example models of my stuff later on if you do decide to get one, hit me up whenever! or encounter any issues, if you do get an anycubic printer , i can share the settings that worked for me, what filament was good, any really any tips you may need

I just purchased an Anycubic i3 mega s fdm printer and I love it ! It is my first 3d printer but it is easy to use . My extruder and extruder motor went bad but Anycubic is sending replacement parts ! I will order a larger printer from them later ! Good company .
Petition to make this the smallest dimensions one can call "mega/xl/large" I'm currently looking for large format printers and seeing a 300x300 or smaller thrown in with Modix, BigRep etc is a bit misleading
@@not_riley The problem with large format, especially on printers with the table moving on the Y axis, is reliability. I had a Tevo Blackwidow, and saw a LOT of similar failures in that pile Joel had. Skipping and shifted layers. 1.7 nemas are struggling to push these larger beds, and as you print larger prints the bed gets even heavier leading towards more failures towards the END of large prints, which is the worst thing ever. I had a 16" Trex skull that took 5 days to print shift 1/2" on the Y with only 8 hours left to go, and that was at 30mm/s... If you're going to go large, go coreXY.
Well, Anycubic have discontinued this thing. So I just bought it in clearance sale, straight from them, for 200 dollars. It's my first printer, and I wanted something a little bit bigger than the standard "Ender 3 Size" and this thing was PERFECT. I can't wait to get it

Great video, watched it ages ago when I was doing my homework. Have had my Mega X for a while now and have nearly a full set of mandalorian armour and so many gadgets and stands for things and a few custom covers etc. The thing has been running flat out for weeks now.
Owning a Anycubic Plus delta printer for more than a year now, had clogin problems with the original hot end. The support team sent me two new relacements using just one until now no more problem ever since.
I have used Anycubic i3 Mega alongside another doubled priced printer and the Anycubic did much better in two fronts. 1) It required much less maintenance and 2) it handled much better Flexible filaments.
I’ve had mine for a few months. Only problem is the bed is not perfectly flat. So corner to corner one way I have to just get close enough leveling the bed and it works. It prints pla perfect out of the box, abs on the other hand did not. Ended up building a enclosure around the machine to hold the heat in and it works pretty good now.
I had really been eyeing the Anycubic Predator over the last couple of weeks, but when it became apparent that you can't get them in the U.S. anymore without paying at least $200 shipping, I gave up on it. This video came up in my suggested vids a while ago.. one thing led to another and I just placed an order for a Mega X using the $25 off code. Thanks!
Hey Joel, do you remember how loose you made the trapezoidal nut screws? Was it like a quarter turn each? Or more like so loose the nut is so loose it has some play in it?
Joel how do you like the one sided air duct for part cooling? I'm always a little concerned how overhangs will perform on the sides that don't get the air blast
I just got this, but while it will extrude fine on filament in, when I go to print the test print it will not print, literally, nothing comes out of the nozzles or if it does it is very stringy and will not stick.
I'm just watching this now and I'm brand new to 3D. Is this still a viable choice, the price hasn't increased btw, improved alternatives? Also, Zed ? I'm Canadian and I don't think I recall someone from the USA using Zed.
I picked up this printer and was really stoked about it but I keep getting the T0 Sensor Abnormal error even though I replaced the thermistor and now one of my Z axis aren't working and it's only been a week... :(
Good 'non' review. I just bought a Anycubic Mega S on March 7th. I've done 1/10th of the prints you have - LOL. My results with the Cura slicer that came with the machine were good. I've also tried Cura 3.2.1 and 4.5. Some quirks with all of them for an amateur with little 3D printing experience. I was not aware you could use Prusa slicer software with this particular unit and will try that next. I have had some overlayering on the non-cooling side of all the models I've printed. Keep thinking it's a setting issue instead of a cooling problem such as Wall Jerk settings. The Ultrabase 3D base plate is okay. I'm finding after only 10 prints and always cleaning the bed with Isoprol Alcohol that most prints are very difficult to remove. The thin layer of filament left behind is significant and takes some patience to remove carefully. Any tips on bed heat (mine is set for 60 deg for PLA) temp control would be welcome. I've set the temps for PLA to 200 deg C as recommended by Anycubic. I look forward to some 3D printing tips on your channel when using this machine, which uses the same print hot head, extruder and build architecture as the Mega X. The cost of these machines in Canada when ordered direct from Anycubic is expensive and recommend going through Amazon.ca There are some third party retailers here in Canada but warranty support is not as good as what Amazon / Anycubic offers. Amazon.ca had a coupon sale for this machine in Canada for a retail price of $399 instead of $449.00 Canadian (current exchange rate is brutal after Wall Street crash at 1.44 Cdn to US dollar) so overall, it's a good price. The new Mega X, which I wanted to order is not yet available via Amazon.ca I printed 4 models and the fan in my power supply started to make a grinding sound. Anycubic sent a complete new power supply via Amazon within three days of filing a warranty complaint. The hotend fan started to operate only part-time (default setting in the firmware and slicer settings is set at 100%), so they are sending a new fan from China - which will probably take a while (but they gave me a tracking number). I recently got the Anycubic Mega S. Its the baby brother to the Mega X, and has a lot of similarities. I've found the major cause of the stringing is actually the PLA from Anycubic that it comes with, its not very good quality, needs very high retraction settings and is susceptible to clogging in the nozzle. Once I got it dialed in though, man its good! Definitely a good choice for a first 3D printer.
Hi Joey. Good review on the Anycubic Mega X. I am having some trouble with my 3D printer. I have a Folgertech FT 5 R2 and I am getting what looks like some small minor underextrusion or filament skipping in the layers and also extrusion inconsistencies throughout my prints. I am using Makergeek’s PLA with the printer’s original extruder. I have already change the print speed setting from the default, which was print speeds of 60 mm/s, acceleration of 3000 mm/s^2 and jerk of 20 mm/s to the changed setting, print speeds of 30 mm/s, acceleration of 500 m/s^2 and jerk to 15 mm/s, from there being layer shifting and under extrusion problems at the default speed setting. this kind of worked but still my problem that I am asking about is still there. I don’t known if the problem is the filament, the extruder setup or my Cura Slicer Profile Settings. What is the best why way to solve this or a list of things I can try?
After watching this video I decided I would try the Mega X. I currently have the Mega S. I used the link you provided and ordered the printer. The website didn't say the printer was out of stock until I ask customer service about my order. They told me they had no idea when it would be back in stock. So I requested to have my money refunded and Anycubic seems rather reluctant to do that. I'm so frustrated, next time I'll just purchase from Amazon at least if I request my money back they return it.
When I was doing my research about the 3D Printers to buy, my options was between Creality Ender 3 and Anycubic Mega S. Anycubic it's way simpler to build and the sales team answered me so quickly that made me choose the Anycubic, I don't regret about my choice, that's why I'm looking for the Mega X. Now I'm looking for a bigger one.
I got an cr ender 3 for Christmas and it’s fan broke I finally got around to getting a new fan and so far it seams to be doing pretty good we’ll see in the morning if the print turn out

Hey 3D Printing Nerd got a question for you please. I’m brand new to all this and very excited to get started. I’ve watched a ton of you’re videos. You are extremely knowledgeable and smart. So I am seeking your advice. I have $350 max to get started for everything. Like the printer and filaments etc. I would like a decent build height decent to awesome quality print. What printer on the market today with all that in mind would you recommend. What brand for being good quality and cost efficient would you recommend. My right now main purpose for the printer is to make a knob for my ac/ heat control for my truck.
I have been following you for a few months and you have great informtation. I have a makerbot replicator 2 for 4 years now. In your opinion do I need to use makerbot filament to get good prints? If not can you suggest a good source? I did try some filamemt from amazon but the filament was tangled and clogged. I go through 17 reels a month and need a steady source.
I like Anycubic's printers! I have the Mega S and it's been a real workhorse for me, no issues other than the fans are not the best quality. Customer support is excellent as well, the time difference makes communication kind of slow but they will always try to make it right for you. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Anycubic machine. Excellent impression video Joel, you are my goto guy when I wan't to find out about a printer or product, thanks! :)
I have the anycubic chiron. It has many of the same features but it's got a 400x400x450 build volume and it's only a tad more expensive at £350. Would recommend that too. I suspect it's the same electronics but just mechanically larger. The only thing I want to change on it is the hot end but that's more because the E3D Hemera exists and I want one rather than it being a major problem with my hot end/extruder.

look closer. at some point the temperature on the owl print reach something like 260°C. I had the same problem at first. Now it's printing pretty decently :)
Ever thought about doing a video where you build some of the unique DIY printer designs out there? Like a tantillus from reprap or the Lumibee cell phone resin printer?
you should try to print a thin surface-like model. i tried a facemask in clear tpu on my regular i3 mega and most slicers had trouble. basically a wall 3ish lines thick and most slicers would do wierd things to fill the middle line.

Something I want to see is an assessment of the different slicer programs and why some preform so much better than others, I've been having really rough results using cura for example, but when it comes to slic3r and the Pursa version it preforms so much better, faster and produces smoother prints.
Honestly I think (unintentionally) Cura gets pushed to the forefront a bit too much. It's got a lot of useful features and it's not bad, but the best program is the one that gets you the results you want! If you're getting prints you're happy with, use that slicer and don't worry about it.
A little off topic but I need some advice to fix my 3D printer. I bought 5 TMC2208's and just installed them (MKS gen v1.4 board) One of them was not working out of the box so I just swaped it out for a A4988 and everything was fine. Except for when I tried to tune the verf/voltage using my multimeter. The TMC2208 I had installed on my X axis tuned to 1105 perfectly but the TMC2208's on Y, Z, E0 , don't seem to tune below about 3-5v (3000-5000). Z is stuck at 4.88v and no matter what I do and it won't go any lower. E0 can only go down to 2.9v and Y can go as low as 3.09v, but with both of them, as I turn them down more they just jump back up to about 3.5v no matter how small of a turn I make when adjusting them. Note: the A4988 on E1 can be tuned to 900 easily. I'm placing the negative terminal of my multimeter on a free negative terminal on my power supply and the positive terminal of the multimeter directly on the adjustment screw on the stepper drivers. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem so I can use my TMC2208's and my 3D printer?
I have a Anycubic i3 Mega Ultrabase and it's an absolutely excellent printer. The only thing I can recommend to people that buy this printer is that you snip off the zip ties that are on the cable going to the heated bed as you'll potentially have one of the smaller gauge temperature wires break off like I did, resoldering it did the trick to repair it.
I don't know, I can't get my mega X print as well as this and I can't get it to print as fast as my mega S with the exact same settings. It seems like the mega X has slow acceleration and jerk speed by default. With my mega S, if I do not use acceleration and jerk settings, the printer will use the highest value but for the mega X, I don't know what's wrong but it always takes like double of the time to print compared with the S. Any idea? thanks!
They have pretty great customer service as long as you aren’t in a hurry. My dog chewed through a bunch of wiring and they sent me new wiring no questions asked.
Amazon link results in unavailable product. The anycubic link takes you to their resin printer. So on the anycubic you'll have to navigate manually to the mega X.
what settings do you run it on ? we're having hard time getting our mega x to work anything properly, strings a lot, pulls supports out of bed after couple layers etc. used recommended cura settings + recomended filament temp.
I have a MEGA ZERO other than a non-heated bed, i'm quite impressed. My local 3D printer seller uses and sells ANYCUBIC exclusive. He must have 50 in his print farm. Looks like I found my next printer!

Been watching your channel for a while now.. planning on getting a anycubic mega x soon. Just wanted to know if the mmu2s from prusa could be used with the mega x ? If so how? I am a noob at all of the 3d printing . I use the prusa slice program to design 3d prints .. love the program .
Thanks for the always interesting videos. I've never had a 3d printer in my life, but I have been following the news and developments with interest for years. Among the many FDM 3d printers, I am interested in the Qidi Tech X-plus. It has an excellent printing area (270x200x200), is a closed printer, and works with many materials. There is also a model with a larger print area called X-MAX On Amazon they both have 5 stars due to the print quality and the excellent assistance from the manufacturer. Is it possible to make a review, since there aren't many on youtube? Greetings from Italy
Just got myself one of these as my first 3d printer and experiencing some problems. First off, the ultrabase seems to be somewhat warped (slightly higher in the middle than on the edges), I've yet to test if it makes it problematic to print things with large surface area, but it makes itimpossible to level properly. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Though I have managed to get a few somewhat good prints out of it somehow, there is a different issue: since the cooling fan is only blowing on whatever is being printed from one side, the other side of the print ends up looking deepfried if it has any sort of overhangs. Is that something that can be fixed with a lower printing speed or something similar?
I am looking for a 3D printer. I like the what heard from the sidewinder x1 it fits all my needs and it’s in my price range. Should I get a different printer or should I get the sidewinder X one?

My first and only printer (so far) is the Anycubic i3 Mega Ultrabase, and its serving me really well.
The I3 Mega(S) is the best entry level printer when compared to its competitors imo. I love how they give you a spare hotend, ptfe tube, tweezers etc.
All you really need to do is upgrade the noisy stepper drivers which you have to deal with anyways for any printer in that price range.

Didn't print anything.... just many spaghetti. So far i hate this machine, and completely regret the purchase. I absolutely love my Anycubic printers, I've never had a problem with them that wasn't my own fault (unlike some other Chinese printers). And Anycubic support is awesome (unlike some other Chinese printers).
The Ultrabase is very grippy, almost always hanging on to prints down to about 35-36C, then they just fall off.
One warning, though: don't try to print PETG on a bare Ultrabase, it will tear up the surface texture! You can get around it with a liberal coating of UHU stic (the white cap, not the blue or green ones), but I don't recommend risking it. There'll be tears!
I am gonna buy this printer. The only thing I do not understand is the filaments it can print. Does the '' more'' mean it can print PET-G too? As PET-G is a filament I am most excited for and will come in the most useful.
Thanks Joel, this video is what solidified my purchase of the Mega X (the $25 discount code was a nice bonus). As this is my first printer I am still deep into the learning curve but channels such as yours are helping to lower the learning curve. I did replace the Bowden tube with one from Capricorn because everybody and their sister just says it is a better Bowden and I can't say that I disagree. The filament seems to flow very smoothly through it. My first set of owls that came with the printer actually looked amazing and no stringing issues like you had so I consider myself lucky. I will continue to explore the videos on your channel and work on upping my 3-D printing game. One suggestion, could you create a playlist for beginning printers such as myself? You have a ton of content but it would be great to have the playlist dedicated to stuff that us beginners need to know. Thanks again. - Jeff

Glad to have the encouragement from you and I've had great success with it. Going to have to check the screws on my Z access as I still have some stringing issues.

Rob Thomae I have one aswell! My only problem is the size, but any super large prints usually are also able to print in pieces able to fit so it’s awesome. I need to do some mods since mine is currently very loud. I absolutely love how no tape or glue or anything is needed, and I only have fails when a print is extremely small without a brim, otherwise it’s never fails.
I definitely recommend thingiverse part #3537449 for the carriage assembly , recently upgraded my mega s with that and tmc2208 drivers. The quality is outstanding now, with silent printing

@@niffbricks2175 I just got one, but didn't do any prints on it yet, because the PSU was damaged, but at least I know that if I ever had a problem with it, their support is very responsive. I messaged them about it and in a few days they confirmed that they'll send me replacement for free. Much better than any customer support I've ever been writing with.

Got my PSU shipped in 3 days and the machine works great! And it's crazy fast: a 40 cm (16 inch) vase in under 4 hours.

9:00 Can anyone tell me how loosening the screw holding the trapezoidal nut fixed the z-wobble he encountered?
it's possible that the z-axis rod wobbling was a tension issue with the trap. nut. The tighter the bolt, the more the alignment of the rod will stress (wobble) when operating. This is just a guess based on observation though, assuming that both sides would probably have to be tightened the same way. Tightening a bolt normally stretches out the screw, messing with the length of the z-axis rods, so that could be a possibility as well. Hope this helps!

Hi joe :) I got a I3 mega for about almost 3 years, this printer is rock solide ! Anycubic deserves more attention, they make so qualitative 3D printer :D
Anycubic does it right. Sure they are not the top of the line printers, but they work and they give you way more than you would expect for the cost. The build plate is also amazing. My first printer was a tevo tornado, LOVED it, but it took a LOT of work and tuning to get it working like it should. My anycubic i3 took 10 minutes to put together, 5 minutes to level, and has been printing well ever since.
My first 3D printer was an Anycubic I3 Mega and it is a fantastic machine. It's a well-priced machine and crucially for me as a newbie it comes basically fully assembled, all you have to do is add some screws.
Can't you see ringing/ghosting on the cube and mini joels?
By the way, any chance you can share some cura profile for this machine for PLA filament? My prints are clean but the tolerance is bad...

I have a I3 Mega. My biggest question for this machine is: does the heated bed warp? Almost all I3 Mega's have warped beds AFAIK, would be a shame if this one does as well.
Actually the heated beds are not warp. The main problem is in the x and y smooth rods. Rod holders are stretching the smooth rods.(Especially the x axis).
Great video! Having just ordered one of these as my first 3D Printer (it should be here tomorrow!), I'm anxious to see more videos on this printer. I was looking for something easy to get started with, and relatively versatile, and based on your first impressions, I think I made a good choice. I was also watching your videos on the Palette 3s and would love to see it hooked up to the Mega X (hint, hint...), as I'm debating that as a purchase later this year (or maybe a Prusa Mk3 w/ the MMU2), with the intention of printing color 3D landscape tiles.
Anycubic I3 Mega is great workhorse. Great video! You were right on spot when you said it makes useful things. . Many other machines in that price range you have to tweak them and fiddle with to get them to run consistent. Not the Anycubic. I must have researched a couple dozen machines looking for a cost effective machine ready to use, clean logical architecture, robust, user friendly and consistent, before I locked on the Anycubic I3 Mega, when they were first released. With common sense and an educated decision approach, I elected the Anycubic to best fit my purpose and the machines have gone beyond my expectations. No filament type I have used with the Anycubics I3s have been an issue, keeping in mind one has to observe the individual melting point properties of each filament and adjust accordingly. The Ultrabase, is unbeatable!, with touch screen in a low cost machine, filament out sensor and power out resume to print while other brands were trying to catch up to these features were the icing on the cake!.
I must add that automatic leveling is a nice feature to have, but I like having a bit of control, and leveling the machines by hand is something I rather do, a personal choice, as this allows me to dial each machine with more flexibility. This may not be ideal for everyone, but since I have also designed my own manufacturing CNC machines this is not an issue for me. A few minutes spent leveling the platform before starting the machine for the first time has been all I had to do and rarely had to go back to re-tweaking them. However, part of any machine consistency, is also consistent preventive maintenance and this should be done regularly, regardless.
With regards to the stepper motor to lead screw couplers, the Anycubic I3s use solid couplers, given I have never had to replace mine, flex couplers, as used on CNC machines may smooth out the print quality even further on larger X machine. I am looking forward to the X machine which is in the spec range I wanted and had mentioned in an earlier Anycubic YT video, and also to the company after having used the original I3 Mega, I was wishing Anycubic would produce a larger foot print machine and retain the same architecture, as the original I3 Mega, and call it the Anycubic Xtreme, and now we have that machine!
I have posted, at Anycubic Facebook site, a suggestion to Anycubic with a concept photo image of an Anycubic machine which I photo-shoped with what I think would be the next useful thing to have on their I3 and X series machines, a 4" touch screen with 3D Print File Graphical Display, to ease the visual selection of the files in the memory card. While perhaps also having the ability to print multiple files direct from the machine. I have several of I3 Megas and I have designed and printed thousands of parts, for real products I sell via my web site, on these machines. Of course, a great result in manufacturing in the real world, not only has to do with a good machine, but also how the parts are designed and post processed, but I love these machines.
Unfortunately I am not a a product reviewer and I have no access to other company machines as many product reviewers do therefore I had to purchase my own machines, but if there is a company out there with a machine that deserves to be fully looked at from a real 3D product manufacturing point of view, look me up. Samples of my work, 3D Printed parts I use in my own design products can be seen via my YT, Facebook, Instagram, and my web site. Thumbs Up!
im waiting on mine today lol, 4th printer
been using a Mega S for a few months now i got it on sale for 200$ which included 5 rolls of their own PLA, which is actually pretty good, nothing in the same price bracket printed better, but i did hone in the settings to print beautifully with their own brand.. will need more testing.. anyway it already turned a profit in the first month, by this time i have to had made about 400-450$ using it, and a BUNCH of stuff for myself. ultimately it was one of the best purchases i made in 2019.. and this little hobby has become 100X more useful, fun, and rewarding than i had ever imagined before i got this printer.
How are you returning a profit? Are you selling custom prints or selling certain items? I've been considering getting into 3D printing, but don't know if I'll do it unless it returns a profit for the price of the machines

most people have literally no idea it exists its not very publicized here.
i work in a print / design firm as my regular job (printing, t shirt, graphics design etc.) so i get a lot of client overlap there that i can take advantage of
i have been 3D modelling in several programs for years before (i studied architectural design so i know the software)
and i charge for custom design work and printing / prototyping.
since i am MUCH cheaper than taking it to a woodworker or metal worker to make the shape, i get decent business prototyping products for people. that is a big revenue source but its kinda rare.
i do a lot of one off prints of useful stuff for people.. like say " i broke this piece and i need to replace it but you can't find the part" so i model it and print it..
i also, which is my favorite, make jewelry and decor stuff that sell, planters, necklaces (they sell very well) table knick-knacks, figurines, small presents, car stuff like phone mounts, grates shift knobs etc. PC parts, like gpu vertical mounts, sag support, brackets/mounts for water cooling, cable combs etc,
also made a lot of covid Mask covers and Halloween masks / decor Christmas decor..
made display stuff for stores like putting leds in parts etc.
also made a limited amount of furniture that included parts i 3d printed.
i did go out and buy an Anycubic Photon Resin Printer as well for smaller more detailed work like figurines and the like. it leaves a nice smooth surface, an you can print a lot faster with it. the relatively small size , and higher material cost of a resin printer does limit what you can do with it .. BUT the Photon Mono X i got is massive for a resin printer tho. Most more affordable variants like the Mono Zero are perfect for small stuff ( most stuff i use the X for would fir on this tiny printer btw, i just had the money to spare ad i like to have the option)
price / performance wise im very satisfied with Anycubic, but you can always go for a better brand like say prusa, monoprice, fomlabs etc.
i combine the 3d printing with woodworking, some metal machining, Epoxy molding, printing, lasercutting/engraving (laser at my workplace) and electrical engineering (my dad is an electrical engineer so learned from him) to make almost anything i need around the house or anything a client wants.
With how versatile a 3d printer is i can guarantee you can find a good use for it, especially if there isn't someone doing it more seriously nearby.
and if you need free software to model i can recommend Google Sketchup WEB for starters ( app dot sketchup)
its browser based don't have to install anything, super easy to learn and use, and can download to an STL file that you can use in your slicer of choice, i like CURA.. but BE WARNED if you have a ryzen 1000/2000 CPU CURA WILL crash your pc to Black screen if you leave it running too long!. its got progressively better recently with new updates but it still does it sometimes.

I just purchased an Anycubic i3 mega s fdm printer and I love it ! It is my first 3d printer but it is easy to use . My extruder and extruder motor went bad but Anycubic is sending replacement parts ! I will order a larger printer from them later ! Good company .

I have to agree. 300 is becoming the new 220. I feel like large format should start at 350x350.
@@not_riley The problem with large format, especially on printers with the table moving on the Y axis, is reliability. I had a Tevo Blackwidow, and saw a LOT of similar failures in that pile Joel had. Skipping and shifted layers. 1.7 nemas are struggling to push these larger beds, and as you print larger prints the bed gets even heavier leading towards more failures towards the END of large prints, which is the worst thing ever. I had a 16" Trex skull that took 5 days to print shift 1/2" on the Y with only 8 hours left to go, and that was at 30mm/s... If you're going to go large, go coreXY.
Well, Anycubic have discontinued this thing. So I just bought it in clearance sale, straight from them, for 200 dollars.
It's my first printer, and I wanted something a little bit bigger than the standard "Ender 3 Size" and this thing was PERFECT.

Great video, watched it ages ago when I was doing my homework. Have had my Mega X for a while now and have nearly a full set of mandalorian armour and so many gadgets and stands for things and a few custom covers etc. The thing has been running flat out for weeks now.

Owning a Anycubic Plus delta printer for more than a year now, had clogin problems with the original hot end. The support team sent me two new relacements using just one until now no more problem ever since.
Do you have any printing profiles for this? Simply 3d or cura?
I have used Anycubic i3 Mega alongside another doubled priced printer and the Anycubic did much better in two fronts. 1) It required much less maintenance and 2) it handled much better Flexible filaments.

Now I have the Mega X. Smiles.
I’ve had mine for a few months. Only problem is the bed is not perfectly flat. So corner to corner one way I have to just get close enough leveling the bed and it works. It prints pla perfect out of the box, abs on the other hand did not. Ended up building a enclosure around the machine to hold the heat in and it works pretty good now.
Where are the profile settings you used? Could really help the people who just bought this unit out a bit

I just got this, but while it will extrude fine on filament in, when I go to print the test print it will not print, literally, nothing comes out of the nozzles or if it does it is very stringy and will not stick.

I picked up this printer and was really stoked about it but I keep getting the T0 Sensor Abnormal error even though I replaced the thermistor and now one of my Z axis aren't working and it's only been a week... :(
Good 'non' review. I just bought a Anycubic Mega S on March 7th. I've done 1/10th of the prints you have - LOL. My results with the Cura slicer that came with the machine were good. I've also tried Cura 3.2.1 and 4.5. Some quirks with all of them for an amateur with little 3D printing experience. I was not aware you could use Prusa slicer software with this particular unit and will try that next.
I have had some overlayering on the non-cooling side of all the models I've printed. Keep thinking it's a setting issue instead of a cooling problem such as Wall Jerk settings. The Ultrabase 3D base plate is okay. I'm finding after only 10 prints and always cleaning the bed with Isoprol Alcohol that most prints are very difficult to remove. The thin layer of filament left behind is significant and takes some patience to remove carefully. Any tips on bed heat (mine is set for 60 deg for PLA) temp control would be welcome. I've set the temps for PLA to 200 deg C as recommended by Anycubic. I look forward to some 3D printing tips on your channel when using this machine, which uses the same print hot head, extruder and build architecture as the Mega X.
The cost of these machines in Canada when ordered direct from Anycubic is expensive and recommend going through Amazon.ca There are some third party retailers here in Canada but warranty support is not as good as what Amazon / Anycubic offers. Amazon.ca had a coupon sale for this machine in Canada for a retail price of $399 instead of $449.00 Canadian (current exchange rate is brutal after Wall Street crash at 1.44 Cdn to US dollar) so overall, it's a good price. The new Mega X, which I wanted to order is not yet available via Amazon.ca
I printed 4 models and the fan in my power supply started to make a grinding sound. Anycubic sent a complete new power supply via Amazon within three days of filing a warranty complaint. The hotend fan started to operate only part-time (default setting in the firmware and slicer settings is set at 100%), so they are sending a new fan from China - which will probably take a while (but they gave me a tracking number).

I recently got the Anycubic Mega S. Its the baby brother to the Mega X, and has a lot of similarities.
I've found the major cause of the stringing is actually the PLA from Anycubic that it comes with, its not very good quality, needs very high retraction settings and is susceptible to clogging in the nozzle.
Once I got it dialed in though, man its good! Definitely a good choice for a first 3D printer.
Hi Joey. Good review on the Anycubic Mega X. I am having some trouble with my 3D printer. I have a Folgertech FT 5 R2 and I am getting what looks like some small minor underextrusion or filament skipping in the layers and also extrusion inconsistencies throughout my prints. I am using Makergeek’s PLA with the printer’s original extruder. I have already change the print speed setting from the default, which was print speeds of 60 mm/s, acceleration of 3000 mm/s^2 and jerk of 20 mm/s to the changed setting, print speeds of 30 mm/s, acceleration of 500 m/s^2 and jerk to 15 mm/s, from there being layer shifting and under extrusion problems at the default speed setting. this kind of worked but still my problem that I am asking about is still there. I don’t known if the problem is the filament, the extruder setup or my Cura Slicer Profile Settings. What is the best why way to solve this or a list of things I can try?

After watching this video I decided I would try the Mega X. I currently have the Mega S. I used the link you provided and ordered the printer. The website didn't say the printer was out of stock until I ask customer service about my order. They told me they had no idea when it would be back in stock. So I requested to have my money refunded and Anycubic seems rather reluctant to do that. I'm so frustrated, next time I'll just purchase from Amazon at least if I request my money back they return it.
When I was doing my research about the 3D Printers to buy, my options was between Creality Ender 3 and Anycubic Mega S. Anycubic it's way simpler to build and the sales team answered me so quickly that made me choose the Anycubic, I don't regret about my choice, that's why I'm looking for the Mega X. Now I'm looking for a bigger one.
I got an cr ender 3 for Christmas and it’s fan broke I finally got around to getting a new fan and so far it seams to be doing pretty good we’ll see in the morning if the print turn out

Hey 3D Printing Nerd got a question for you please. I’m brand new to all this and very excited to get started. I’ve watched a ton of you’re videos. You are extremely knowledgeable and smart. So I am seeking your advice. I have $350 max to get started for everything. Like the printer and filaments etc. I would like a decent build height decent to awesome quality print. What printer on the market today with all that in mind would you recommend. What brand for being good quality and cost efficient would you recommend. My right now main purpose for the printer is to make a knob for my ac/ heat control for my truck.
I have been following you for a few months and you have great informtation. I have a makerbot replicator 2 for 4 years now. In your opinion do I need to use makerbot filament to get good prints? If not can you suggest a good source? I did try some filamemt from amazon but the filament was tangled and clogged. I go through 17 reels a month and need a steady source.
Hatchbox or inland are my go to. They are cheaper than buying from the printer manufacturer and have been consistently good
I like Anycubic's printers! I have the Mega S and it's been a real workhorse for me, no issues other than the fans are not the best quality. Customer support is excellent as well, the time difference makes communication kind of slow but they will always try to make it right for you. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Anycubic machine.

I have the anycubic chiron. It has many of the same features but it's got a 400x400x450 build volume and it's only a tad more expensive at £350. Would recommend that too. I suspect it's the same electronics but just mechanically larger.
The only thing I want to change on it is the hot end but that's more because the E3D Hemera exists and I want one rather than it being a major problem with my hot end/extruder.

look closer. at some point the temperature on the owl print reach something like 260°C. I had the same problem at first. Now it's printing pretty decently :)

you should try to print a thin surface-like model. i tried a facemask in clear tpu on my regular i3 mega and most slicers had trouble. basically a wall 3ish lines thick and most slicers would do wierd things to fill the middle line.

Something I want to see is an assessment of the different slicer programs and why some preform so much better than others, I've been having really rough results using cura for example, but when it comes to slic3r and the Pursa version it preforms so much better, faster and produces smoother prints.
Honestly I think (unintentionally) Cura gets pushed to the forefront a bit too much. It's got a lot of useful features and it's not bad, but the best program is the one that gets you the results you want! If you're getting prints you're happy with, use that slicer and don't worry about it.
After you loosened the leadscrew nut did you tighten it back up or do you leave it loose? Please explain a bit more in detail.
Just got my standard mega fully upgraded. And I was thinking of making a bigger build plate. Now i see there is a bigger version. Dooh
A little off topic but I need some advice to fix my 3D printer. I bought 5 TMC2208's and just installed them (MKS gen v1.4 board) One of them was not working out of the box so I just swaped it out for a A4988 and everything was fine. Except for when I tried to tune the verf/voltage using my multimeter. The TMC2208 I had installed on my X axis tuned to 1105 perfectly but the TMC2208's on Y, Z, E0 , don't seem to tune below about 3-5v (3000-5000). Z is stuck at 4.88v and no matter what I do and it won't go any lower. E0 can only go down to 2.9v and Y can go as low as 3.09v, but with both of them, as I turn them down more they just jump back up to about 3.5v no matter how small of a turn I make when adjusting them. Note: the A4988 on E1 can be tuned to 900 easily. I'm placing the negative terminal of my multimeter on a free negative terminal on my power supply and the positive terminal of the multimeter directly on the adjustment screw on the stepper drivers. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem so I can use my TMC2208's and my 3D printer?

I have a Anycubic i3 Mega Ultrabase and it's an absolutely excellent printer. The only thing I can recommend to people that buy this printer is that you snip off the zip ties that are on the cable going to the heated bed as you'll potentially have one of the smaller gauge temperature wires break off like I did, resoldering it did the trick to repair it.
I don't know, I can't get my mega X print as well as this and I can't get it to print as fast as my mega S with the exact same settings. It seems like the mega X has slow acceleration and jerk speed by default. With my mega S, if I do not use acceleration and jerk settings, the printer will use the highest value but for the mega X, I don't know what's wrong but it always takes like double of the time to print compared with the S. Any idea? thanks!

Research suggests it lives for up to 72 hours on hard, shiny surfaces.
They have pretty great customer service as long as you aren’t in a hurry. My dog chewed through a bunch of wiring and they sent me new wiring no questions asked.

what settings do you run it on ? we're having hard time getting our mega x to work anything properly, strings a lot, pulls supports out of bed after couple layers etc. used recommended cura settings + recomended filament temp.
I have a MEGA ZERO other than a non-heated bed, i'm quite impressed. My local 3D printer seller uses and sells ANYCUBIC exclusive. He must have 50 in his print farm. Looks like I found my next printer!
got the Anycubic I3 mega and i love it .....only thing it doesnt print is flexible filament ....
do you have a S or normal mega? because they made a new style of extruder which handles it a lot better

I've never had a 3d printer in my life, but I have been following the news and developments with interest for years.
Among the many FDM 3d printers, I am interested in the Qidi Tech X-plus.
It has an excellent printing area (270x200x200), is a closed printer, and works with many materials.
There is also a model with a larger print area called X-MAX
On Amazon they both have 5 stars due to the print quality and the excellent assistance from the manufacturer.
Is it possible to make a review, since there aren't many on youtube?

Just got myself one of these as my first 3d printer and experiencing some problems.
First off, the ultrabase seems to be somewhat warped (slightly higher in the middle than on the edges), I've yet to test if it makes it problematic to print things with large surface area, but it makes itimpossible to level properly. Has anyone experienced anything similar?
Though I have managed to get a few somewhat good prints out of it somehow, there is a different issue: since the cooling fan is only blowing on whatever is being printed from one side, the other side of the print ends up looking deepfried if it has any sort of overhangs. Is that something that can be fixed with a lower printing speed or something similar?
