A great song! While growing up my parents would sometimes tell me that I was getting too big for my britches and I knew what I needed to do. This song reminds me when I get a little puffed up in my spiritual life that I need to go look in the mirror. I am nothing without my Lord Jesus

Every song that Sam and Rusty sings, Sam looks at Rusty with so much love and and appreciation. He was so thankful for all the Songs that Rusty wrote. Just listen each time that he introduces Brother Rusty!

This is such a great song by Rusty, with Johnny and Sam singing harmony, I remember seeing Johnny Cook and the Happy Goodmans perform in the 70's and this was the best ever.

The Goodman family has always been so loved by me
I met 'Rusty many years ago when he was with the planesmen . I heard him preach revival after he left the planesmen. He only got better. I love the family but Rusty 's voice is the best have ever heard. They left us too soon.

I often wonder who could be so cruel
To hang my Lord upon a rugged tree
But then I chance to pass
    An old looking glass
And there I saw the man staring back at me
I saw the eyes that turned aside
I saw the lips that sadly whispered "Crucify!"
I saw the beast that walked in sin
I saw the hand that drove the nails in Him
I saw the man that crucified the Lord
Let me ask you a question now
    Have you ever wondered
    About the sacrifice He made
About the pain and the suffering
    He went through
Well if you should chance to pass
    Some old looking glass
Won't that be some reflection on you?
You'll see the eyes that turned aside
You'll see the lips that sadly whispered "Crucify"
You'll see those feet that walked in sin
You'll see your hands that drove the nails in Him
You'll see the man that crucified the Lord
Coda: I was that man that crucified the Lord

"But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was." James 1:22-24

I grew up loving the Happy Goodman Family til I went to one of their concerts in 1975... all they did was sing a few songs then beg for money... after getting out of their new at least a $100.000 purple bus... I remember my mom saying... look at that bus they got just for singing...we all paid for a ticket to get in... but Howard constantly begs these poor farmers in the audience for more money...saying they wouldn’t have enough money for biscuits and gravy the next morning for breakfast if they didn’t get more offerings. And that the crowd wasn’t as big as they hoped it would be... Vestal I remember was wearing a long black simmering dress with her beehive wig on and wearing a small brown fur wrap around her neck.. it was surreal... that’s when I realized all these Gospel singers just use Jesus Christ name and ministry and persona to make a living on to make money with for themselves. It’s a scam.

I don’t believe you. The purple bus was the first bus they had, I believe and it was a an old 47 clunker. The new Silver Eagle they bought only cost $60,000.00. You must be one jealous soul.

Vestal said in her book that Rusty was a drinker... Johnny was good but didn’t capture Vestals vocals. He also tried too hard... Trying to overwhelm the other singers voices.
