Very nice watch as I'm watching from Darlo Green. It's such a shame to see the heritage of this town continue to fade. If anyone is interested, there's a really good video on a channel called SuperT3x which talks about the history of Darlaston with lots of obscure pictures and videos. The elderly couple who made the video visited my primary school (St Joseph's) when I was in year 5 (2014) and I managed to find the video again almost a decade later.
Hi Phil enjoyed the walk around Darlaston when Asda first opened it was very popular I found the history interesting and I liked the Park going out of Darlaston towards Bilston I remember a cinema on the left i think they turned it into a Bingo Hall all the best Paul
Darlaston was beautiful little town, now it's just a slum, I cant believe that whole streets were swept away just for asda. I think the Firestation is going to BCLM or so ive heard.
I spoke to someone in the Town Hall who is part of the Darlaston History Group she explained that all the bricks have been numbered with that intention in mind but it now transpires that the Museum are no longer interested. Thanks for the comment
If you think about it why do they keep building these supermarkets, and knocking houses and streets down, we had corner shops butchers fruit and veg shops, markets, now we have big soulless shops, and blooming shopping centre's, they forget about older people who probably want to nip down to the local town, where they knew the shop keepers and was always someone to chat to,, I knew because we has kids went with our gran, to great bridge which had everything, I blame councils who throw money at stupid things and not what matters😢
I don't know if I missed it while I was pouring a beer or you didn't cover it Phil, but probably the most useful shop there just passed the library at the back of what used be the Halifax is the Asian food shop. You can buy anything from there, fresh or bagged. Not an overly friendly atmosphere in there though. I would live there in one of those wonderful old buildings.
Still quite a few pubs there, and revisiting in 2022 after about 25 years I was surprised that in general the pubs were refurbished and well maintained. A lack of real ale though!

Was in Darlastan once with my late mother, I remember a "staffy shop" and a shop selling "Doc Martens", probably nearly 30 years ago now 😢, thought it quite a depressing town center, but as always, black country people are the salt of the earth ...
@@awalkwithphil i know how to get an exact map boundary for each town now! West Bromwich, Wednesbury etc. If you go onto Google maps the normal map view and press on the town name directly, it will then show you a dotted red line, the exact boundary of the town, see if it works for you

You are definitely right about Black Country folk, thanks for the comment
