Yeah I’ve dealt with their Dwarves, Goblins, and Orcs, and they’ve all been winners for me. I also like the look of their Elves, they give me like 5th edition Wood Elf vibes (back in the yellow shield days), and will probably base a project around that some day.
@@PlanetToborTV Woah that takes me back! Sea Elves were basically High Elves that left Ulthuan to establish colonies, right? Iirc that’s where the Wood Elves originated from, but it’s been a while since I read through the lore.
@@Dan-ds8sf Oh man, I'm not 100% sure how a lot of that developed, but using 3rd ed. era stuff (WFRP 1st edition, too) -- generally coastal guardians around Ulthuan, merchants, explorers, etc. They run elvish port towns, too, and are more rough and tumble than High Elves. You bring up a compelling connection there, regardless, between them and Wood elves, yeah. Me and a buddy of mine are doing a kind of "Mega Hammer" campaign thing, with 3rd edition, 1st edition Fantasy Roleplay (there's a really cool conversion chart in the core book so that you can move characters/heroes back and forth between the systems), and map generation and campaign rules with Mighty Empires to connect it all. All late 80s to early 90s era stuff when the fluff was a little less developed and more loose and wild.
I'll second that these make outstanding proxies for Lord of the Rings games. They should also mix okay with Wizkids Dungeons and Dragons stuff, if one needs a bunch of orcs for D&D( and yes, you do!)
Great suggestion, I’ve been really pleased with the Wizkids stuff I’ve picked up as well. I like mixing in models of different sizes from different manufacturers with my orcs and goblins, specifically, since it creates neat and diverse look.
Goblin and dwarf sets from oathmark are interchangeable if you want to spice them up abit. I got dwarf heavy infantry box and felt a need for some cool dwarf cavalry, then bought goblin wolfriders and switched goblin heads, some weapons and new i got wild looking dwarf wolfriders. Used some green stuff to adjust some positions tough.
Pretty sure all Oathmark kits are compatible with each other as well as Frostgrave kits as they're the same manufacturer/designer. Limits poses a bit but massively increases variety
Someone just mentioned that regarding combining the goblin and Dwarf infantry kits. I have some of those Dwarf bodies lying around, so I’ll give that a try.
They’re definitely worth picking up, they’ll just be difficult to thread into an existing O&G collection. Probably better to start a project based on them.
Those look good! Do you have a video on how you did the checkerboard pattern on the shields? You mentioned you did a video on the shields but I haven't found it. Was it freehand?
Yeah for sure, they have an old school fantasy vibe from before GW started roiding out their Orcs so much. I think this is why they’d make such good proxies for LoTR. What oldhammer system are you playing?
Oddly it’s not, you can see an example of it on a finished model at 10:03. The dagger is a right hand weapon, but there’s a left handed axe in the kit for dual wielding if you like.
How's the height compared to GW human miniatures from Fantasy? Thinking about picking up some Revenant undead from Oathmark for Grave Guard but unsure of how tall they are.
Depends on the GW era. The Victrix Huscarl I compared them to at the end are about the same height as the 6th edition Empire State Troops. Assuming the undead stuff from Oathmark is about the same height (I haven’t dealt with them yet) they’d be approximately correct for Warhammer undead, which imho should be slightly smaller than their living equivalents (since a skeleton should theoretically fit inside a human).
Noted, I’ve been testing out various setups with different rig heights. I’ll try a lower one for the next review, which will put the miniatures closer to the camera.
I am addicted to these Oathmark plastic boxes.

@@Dan-ds8sf Yeah absolutely! Right on the money with the older vibes. I've been wanting to do a "sea elf" army for use with 3rd edition.

I like the design of these orcs a lot
Yeah their whole range has this kind of medieval-fantasy aesthetic, which is cool.

Great idea!! I’ll definitely give that kitbash a whirl, I have about 20 Oathmark Dwarf infantry bodies that I wasn’t sure what to do with.
Very informative, thoughtful review, thanks. Love the way you say ‘Goblin’ …
Thanks! That’s a Philadelphia suburb accent for you.

Yep! I put one out earlier in the year:

@Dan-ds8sf not really any at the moment. But was thinking about doing 3rd edition with some friends skirmish style.
Loved this review bro , nice to see some new kits 😮 given me some inspiration 👍 we need a collaboration soon 😉❤️🤫🔥💪 keep up the good work as always
I’ll look forward to that!
Thanks 👍

Looks like the dagger is a left hand in case you want to make a dual wielding orc.

I have the revenant kit. They will be small compared to modern GW and even some older GW.
