First off... I want to thank you Jake Baldino for introducing me to the first game of this series. I am definitely excited to complete this one as well. Keep up the great content!

@Ol Dusty Trails … Same here! Bought Innocence based on this recommendation before it was added the gamepass and it actually worked out because my buddy was able to use his game share with me to play Innocence just before this came out! Loving it so far. Started on New Zealand time at 8am EST 😀 thanks Xbox location change
The autosave is perfect, it always saves before a situation that could prove frustrating
Are you sarcastic? I cant tell if your sarcastic? lol
Such an underrated feature, especially if you make content and gameplay videos
Easily the best story telling I've ever experienced in gaming. I didn't want the game to end I was so invested. The ending is such an emotional Rollercoaster that really made me tear up. Both the first and this game are true masterpieces and deserve more recognition.
You must not have played the first game on ps5. The broken cart pushing segment at the end left a real sour taste in my mouth.
@@ThexJasonxSensation no I have not
Best story telling? Hugo is a monster and should’ve been put down at the end of the first game. He wipes out two freaking towns in the sequel, once because he had a bad dream, the other because he lost his temper.
@@lawrencetalbot8346 if it was your brother and you actually would have a good relation with him you would understand why that didnt happend, and if you would have actually understood the game.

I absolutely loved the first game. The boss battles were memorable, like the battle with nicholas. Requiem has its ups and downs. the pros are the story, the characters picking up where we left off from the first game, and the utter raw emotional scenes that have me on the edge of my seat. Cons, the framerates, some glitches that I found (I once noclipped through the ground and fell out of the map), and lucas standing in the most inconvenient places when we're trying to be stealthy. Im enjoying this game so far and I cant wait to see how it ends.
So, how did you like the ending?
I haven't had any major glitches, just a guard that couldn't stop spinning on a bridge and Sophia that always stays ouside of the bushes
@@grunchlk I think artistically, Requiem is a masterpiece. That includes the ending. It's akin to Far Cry 3 in how the denouement is not cheery nor cathartic, but keeps up the tension. It could've been more fulfilling, but it's actually refreshing that it wasn't.
@@lezhu6856 I genuinely think that we didn't get to know much about what happened, the ending kinda felt incomplete
The skill tree that reacts to how you play seems like a really neat innovation
Yeah that is very cool
Indeed. Ended up with aggression and opportunism almost maxed out and patience just one level 😂. I guess i just like to shoot everyone and enjoy feeding the cute little ratties
Yes filling in experience points is OK but it feels so much better to just play and every once in a while look at how you play and being rewarded for whatever playstyle you use. Personally I was more of an opportunist and discreet person.
True
Good stuff Jake! I played the first game and there is a good feeling playing a franchise from it's humble beginnings, then each sequel becomes bigger and more successful. You're part of their journey too
I agree. I really wish we could say the same about Kena: Bridge of Spirits in the future with a sequel, but the developers said that are not interested. At least we have A Plague Tale!
@[卐]Lakehuntist ⸜⁄ sure cowpoke
Yeah, like call of duty. Earlier games are credits for world war 2 veteran, and now it's become blockbuster.
CAn you buy the last one on switch
@@moviegametime3891 Lena Bridge of Spirits had a superb story as well, and ever better, the gameplay mechanics of that game was much better
Best storyline I've played in a very long time. This game had me highly invested emotionally. I loved it and really hope they have 1 more game.
@Nicked Right, but I think it's during the Spanish Flu (1918 to 1920) or the third Bubonic plague (1855 to 1960) as the use of an ventilator & a woman walking in heels was heard in the background. They could also set Persia or Italy as these locations suffered the Bubonic plague in past, though during different timelines.
@@adelerodriguez5636 it’s set in the 1300s

story and immersion is great but combat and gameplay really suck lol. But on narrative difficulty it's ok experience. I wouldn't pay for it full price in milion years though lol
I can't stress enough how refreshing these reviews are. Hearing someone be objective with a game even if they love/hate it, and even when expressing an opinion being clear they are being subjective in that point.
You are my go to when looking for opinions on gaming, keep it up Jake!
I owe it to Jake and the channel for introducing me to one of my favorite games with the first one. It was such a hit and I can’t wait to check out the next part of the adventure!

I just finished the game 5 minutes ago. Damn, man. This game is a masterpiece and I love it. I can't give it enough praise, it's just so damn good!
I alsoplayed it on PC and I never had any problems with stuttering or anything like this. 10/10 would play this game again.
This game was terrible, even worse then the first. I’m just not understanding why people think it’s a good game
@@lowprice3524 Well, I guess because it is. It has a cool story but most importantly very well written characters. And that is why its such a good game.

Great video as always guys. Can’t wait to play this! I beat the first game on PS4 and was shocked at how much I liked it. This looks gorgeous as well.
I only played the first game because you recommended it in a video from some time ago, I just wanted to thank you, that's one of the few games that makes me emotional when remembering it
I just saw this and the Gotham Knight one. Please never change. You guys are the only channel that truly give an honest unfiltered opinion covering all the important things about each game. Thank you for always giving us top quality videos :)
Just finished the game and it was SOOO FREAKING BEAUTIFUL!! I feel like this is something Naughty Dog would make as it feels very similar. I'm so impressed with this game with the storytelling, the clever level design and a different variety of game experience.
10/10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND :)
Other large developers should be embarrassed. Asobo makes STUNNING looking games with a fraction of the workforce and budget.
I loved the first game! So many of the elements that were introduced made me love it like the alchemy system, the characters, and the spin the developers put on the black plague. All in all, I’m excited to play after I get home from work this evening! I expect the same gut wrenching emotional storytelling like the first one (I actually cried a bit not gonna lie) and some awesome collective items. The Collectables were amazing in the first one especially since you learned more about the games world.
This game looks absolutely gorgeous. The scenery and detail in the character models is really good.
👍🏼
Yes, and 30 FPS only 😅
@@hipermlexon not on PC but you need to set it up on high and not ultra settings. It's really taxing
Character models sucks!! facial mimics not exited also she looks like natalie portman... I hate it
Too bad it plays like a drunken hippo. Sluggish asf. Had to uninstall.
I'm on chapter 5, loving this game, and loved the previous one. Playing on Xbox game pass whilst on PC and had to tone the graphics down a bit as it did stutter but the game itself is just top notch with the story and gameplay
People are complaining that this game runs at 40 fps on console. You won't even notice it. It's not a competitive action game. Calm down, it's not that serious.
I don’t think I’ve seen a comment like this before lol make sure to keep that same opinion when someone else complains about FPS for any other game
I played it for a bit and I had no problems it might be because I was playing it on a pretty good console idk
@@jozeflee5571 seems like you’re bothered enough to respond 😂
I get that but i also don’t understand why it isn’t 60 fps. Should’t it be normal for a next gen game to be 60 fps? I don’t know it thats lazy from the developer or is the game to heavy to reach those 60 frames?
You won’t notice it if your tv has VRR* if your tv doesn’t have VRR (the vast majority of TVs) it won’t refresh at 40fps it will refresh at 30.
This game really was the best game I've played this year, I finished tomb raider (the snow one) and I thought that was great, but my socks were blown off when I played this.
So much of the game felt epic, I played on the series s and still had a great experience. In the very beginning I thought the framerate was low but i didn't even notice it later on
Loved the first one, was super excited for this and now your video makes me eager to play it even more! Can't wait for the download to be over and finally play it given how good the first one was. Thank you, Jake!
Loved the first of the series and I’m pretty sure you guys were the ones who turned me onto it. I’m looking forward to this release because the first was amazing, and we are finally starting to see games built for current Gen as opposed to current and last Gen.
I absolutely loved the first game, good story, fun mechanics, really creepy visuals and moment, although the main villain and their faction could have been a little more fleshed out. I will also say this game is worth playing in French with the subtitles on. Really helps with the immersion, and I kind of liked the French VA for Amelia over the British one.
First game was a masterpiece, can't wait to play this tomorrow 🙌 thanks for the honest review man 👍 huge fan of before you buys
It’s just as good really enjoying it
I just finished Requiem on the game pass and it was amazing! Definitely one of my favorite games out there right now. Although, I don't know if it's my PC, but the bugs were hilariously bad sometimes. Like Amicia randomly getting eaten by rats while literally standing right next to a torch, or an enemy walking up to Amicia when she's crouching (not hidden by tall grass or anything) and somehow not detecting her. Other than those mishaps, I loved it so much. Thanks for the review!
Played the first one because of how highly Jake talked about it this last weekend. Then pre-ordered this one right after I beat it! Glad to see it stays to what made the first one so special
DONT BUY UNLESS YOU CAN HANDLE SERIOUS TRAUMA AND EMOTIONAL DAMAGES!!!!!!
Agree. Esp seeing Aelia dead among the soldiers, Amicia bidding farewell to her dear brother.
Yea I got slightly depressed afterwards
True!!
First game was absolutely incredible for what it was. The game felt like a AAA drop with massive indie dev heart. Something you don't see a lot of with tons of AAA games these days. I am keeping expectations at bay because of how close I hold the first game to my heart, but at the same time I'm sure the sequel will satisfy me if you enjoyed it, Jake.
Did it satisfied you?
@@PoulainNord 100%. It improves upon literally everything from the first game, story was great, gameplay was great, but when it launched it had some framerate issues that are now patched. Absolutely amazing game!
Good to hear, unfortunatly I rage quited it tho' I loved the first game. Maybe the larger zone and no dodge, Amicia felt like a truck and the AI of ennemy is outdated :/
But in the first it was fine because it wasn't interrompting the narration and here I got tired of dying one shoot of a spear that I can't dodge. I will give it another try soon tho' cause I loved too much the first game, and I'm sure the second one has even better storyline.. @@paranoidandroid___1248

Keep up the good work. Your before you buy videos are brilliant.
Always great to see your reviews prior to buying
Thanks for the review of this game. Played the first one and really enjoyed it. Hope this one is a bit longer than the 1st one tho. Finished the 1st one in just a few plays, maybe 10-15 hours. You said it took you roughly 20 hours to finish the new game so that's good to hear. I was so captivated in the story of the 1st game. It was very well written and executed. You really do get attached to the characters which is rare for me with most games. Already have this pre-installed off of gamepass and am looking forward to playing it.
I thought first one was perfect length all games don't need to be 25 hours long they get boring.
@@nopenope7482 that depends on how much story elements are in the game as against mandatory filler activities.
@@christinehede7578 true.
I just completed the game (A Plague Tale: Requiem). I felt like this game does everything that the first game does but better in everyway. He mentions fps drops at 6:38, yes he played on a PS5 and I played on an RTX 3080 with an Intel i9-12900k cpu on ultra 1440p and my game worked fine (80-100 fps+) throughout the whole game. I also want to say that don't miss out on these games because it's one of the best storys I've ever seen in story games. A Plague Tale: Requiem is one of the best games made in 2022 no doubt.
Completely agree this game caught my attention and that 30fps didn’t deter me at all because it was that good and playing on XSX with 120hz tv it ran in the 40FPS which was def a bit better.
Thank you for keeping this spoiler free, especially being so story-heavy. The first game was great. It was the first game I completed on my ps5 and I absolutely loved it. This was one of the few games where I was actually interested to learn about some of the people behind the scenes. I cannot wait to play Requiem. Downloading as we speak!
This is like the first truly next gen AAA quality. I was truly in awe seeing the graphics right off the bat just taking in all the details. For photorealistic visuals like this Im fine playing at 30 fps not to mention the crazy intro for the rats was jaw dropping and with haptic feedback I can feel the swarm of rats it's really cool and gross at the sametime in my hands. This games pushes the ps5 to its limits from both visual and technical standpoint. I've only played only the first 2 chapters now cant wait to get back.
nah, its AA at most.
This game is absolutely masterpiece. Why watch series when you can play games like these?
The first game was one of my favourites of the year. I literally didn’t know there was a sequel till the day it came out. Needless to say I went to the store as soon as I could today and am watching Before You Buy just to get myself more hyped
👍🏼
Played the 1st one last year still very fresh in my head.. looking forward to jumping in tonight
I just finished the story and from the beginning to the end, I felt that there was a lot of love put into this game.
Beautiful story and gorgeous graphics to accompany it.
I couldn't put my controller down until I'd finished the entire game. It's that good.
I put it down before finishing the second last chapter. Just didn’t want to do it
I put it down after 3 hours. Boring asf with the worst control quality I've ever seen. The characters mouths don't even move when they talk. Uninstalled.
It's nice when a sequel doesn't turn out to be crap.
What isn't nice is when the prequel is 60 fps and the sequel is 30 even tho they're both on the same generation of console
I rarely ever get to play video games anymore, being a working adult now. But the first Plague Tale was really special to me.
The whole the-name-of-the-rose-esque aesthetic coupled with great characters, great visuals and an engaging story was just what I needed to keep me sane during the first year of the pandemic.
I'll play this sequel once the price drops but it does look like this will be right up my alley.
Absolutely adored the first game, I'll be playing this soon!
This is definitely a must buy game.
Love the setting and time. It also look really gorgeous.
Best part must be it's a single player game with focus on story telling! 🙌
I love this game, im still going thru the 1st one, i love the fact that this company is continuing the story
This game has somehow flown under my radar until the past couple of days. But now I can not wait to play it. I just played the trial version of the first part an am now 100% invested in these characters and their story.
Excellent review, the best I've seen on youtube about this title, I agree completely with your remarks. I love this franchise. After having played Innocence, Requiem was a day one buy for me as well. It is now probably my most favorite game ever. Beautiful touching story, deeply human characters. Emotionally wrecking for me... but unforgettable as well. I expect a followup set in contemporary time.
The first one is the only game I played through multiple times to get all the achievements. I loved it.

@@iamsepd its still one of the BEST games ever
Go's to show how amazing that game was, I also played through multiple times, so much fun.
I loved the first game and the game play really took me by surprise. The story was really well done and the pacing was spot on. Looking forward to the new game!
New game is better
I'm playing this on Xbox Game Pass using cloud gaming. I hadn't heard of this game and gave it a try. boy, am I glad I did. what a gem. I was sucked into the gameplay and story instantly. I really wish I could play the first one on Xbox Game Pass.
First one had breath taking graphics. The outdoor environment, the grass, the leaves and an interesting concept with the rats...It was the gpu killer when it came out!
I love skill trees that naturally progress as the player performs actions in the game, SO MUCH MORE than having to choose stuff from a weird skill tree of weirdness.
I've played several games starting with the second (or much later) game first, then went back to start from the beginning, and I'm hoping this can be one of them, since I couldn't get any momentum into the first one even though the setting should have been a slam dunk for me, and since I'm still curious about it. I guess I need to wait for some sort of patch on the console versions, though.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 like in Assassin's creed
Just finished it. It's great, made with a lot of care and talent.
They also make Flight Sim

Downloading it right now actually.. loved the first game, definitely in my top 5 & definitely dropping a review on it. It's an absolute masterpiece.

This game is actually very good and impressive graphic wise. It’s hard to ignore the 30FPS tho I wish there was a 1440p 60Fps mode on Series X. I was playing GOW:Rag on PS5 then switched to this and it was hard to adjust back to 30FPS but the story does immerse you
You only pulling 30fps?

It just couldn't get any better than this. What a beautiful game. Really innovative combination of stealth, puzzle and action gameplay, combined with crazy graphics and a heart wrecking story. This was a hard to forget experience.
I played the first game awhile back and it was so so much fun. I didn't expect them to make another one but when I checked game pass i was pleasantly surprised with this masterpiece. it's been a hot minute since i was addicted to a game that was mostly a linear story but this one had me hooked. the game play is fun and the story was amazing. I really hope they make a third one.
I think Amicia's arc is done, and I don't know if it would be smart to continue her as the lead protagonist. But it would be interesting to have Lucas have more story since he is immersing himself to one day become a master of his craft and I think he deserves to have more depth to his story because he was such a likable character. Perhaps the third game can start with him as an adult with Amicia as a cameo appearance or by his side?
That's odd, I could have sworn that Amecia was given a crossbow to use in this new game as well too just in the main game itself, so that part has me scratching my head lol. Amazing review though here Jake, AS ALWAYS! LOVED the first game in this series and I know I will have a great time with this one as well too.

Glad they kept the stealth as the main way to play. I was afraid they turned Amicia into the classic 90lb girl, 1 man army trope we've been seeing a lot of.
Yea glad she did not turn into a ellie or Abby!!
I pre ordered and I'm now about 6 hours in, I couldn't be happier, so well polished and it is such a good story and the connection to the first game is fantastic, the additions they made to the gameplay are so good, it still feels like the first plague tale but it is more fleshed out and interesting, overall it is a very well made game 👌🏻👌🏻
how long did it take to complete?
Really? This was some of the poorest gameplay I've ever seen. Graphics are a joke. The characters mouths don't even move when they talk lol. Got bored and uninstalled after 3 hours.
I'm happy that I'm not the only one who felt the same, sadness, after finishing the game. Waiting for the next one now, hopefully, Aelia's story or something similar set in the current time.
I am beyond excited. I actually forgot it comes out tomorrow, so I was able to snag a preorder real quick just now haha! I have high hopes, the first game blew me outta the water. I got it with Humble Bundle not long after it came out and couldn't believe how good it was. I was able to get it for free with PlayStation Plus recently on my PS5 and am doing a Plat run on it before I run through Requiem. Can't wait, such a great first game and I think the second is going to be a real good contender in 2022.
Loved the first game and I've been playing Requiem on Game Pass on my PC since it released tonight... apart from a kinda annoying bug in the UI (which can be remedied by turning off game hints) and a few FPS problems here and there, it's been running very smoothly and it looks absolutely gorgeous on a 32:9 monitor!
Few FPS problems on PC
What GPU are you playing the game on?
I want to play it but the series s runs it like ass and my GF has a 3060 so I was thinking about playing it on PC instead
@Chris Sein I only have a 2060 Super, so a 3060 should do just fine!
Enjoying the game so far! Loved the first one and wasn’t expecting much for the sequel but so far it’s great. I love that they got rid of the crying child feature as well 😂😂
im so excited to hear you and ralph discuss this on the podcast. gonna be a great convo!

I haven't played it quite yet, but I think I'llmiss the painterly shader effect from the first game more than a little. That was really something special.
I think one the things about the stealth being so good, is that it makes you really choose between what to do, theres plenty of encounters where you could easily go through killing everybody, but the game keeps telling you how fucked that is, through your companions, and even through Amicia hyperventilating everytime she kills someone, it's brilliant
I read/watched two other reviews before I saw this....which just show how much more elevated you guys at Gameranx are from the others.. . Insight that's deeper than a puddle, criticism that is built from sound foundation , this never sounds like a "job" . Can't wait to play this.

The first game was one of my favorite games on the PS4 generation. its kind of a palate cleanser game if you will. can't wait to dive into this one.
My friend (who plays multiplayer or coop games exclusively) got hooked on A Plague Tale: Innocence back in 2019 on xbox with gamepass and I wanted to give it a try but I didn't have money for a console or computer to run the game (let alone purchase the game). About a week ago I finally tried the game out seeing as the sequel was gonna come out soon. I got to play the game in 4k ultra settings and the story was just amazing and the graphics were so beautiful. The bossfights left a bit more to be desired, but were pretty challenging. I finished the game about two days ago and me and my friend were just looking at the trailers and seeing the new stuff that was coming. I can't wait to get my hands on this game on xbox gamepass I already have it pre-downloaded. I'm not sure exactly how gameplay will be regarding rats and avoiding them with light, but seeing as the last game had a heavy focus on being near light sources and being in indoor spaces, I can't wait to see how well the ray tracing is implemented. Really excited to play this game!
