That's so exciting! Hope you're enjoying the change from Auckland (yay for less traffic haha) Glad you found this video - make sure you check out the latest vid we just uploaded too for some day trip ideas!
I lived in Christchurch many years ago (I live in the UK now) and my first ever memory was feeding the ducks on the Avon. So glad Christchurch has come back strong from tragedy. What a beautiful city!
I do like what they're doing rejuvenating Christchurch too. We ended up eating at, well, you wouldn't call them food trucks - they were renovated small containers shaped into a horseshoe with greenery and seats in the middle. Very cool.
Christchurch looks great to eat at and I don't know why but other places than where you live always look like they have better food or maybe NZ just knows how to do it. Thanks for the video & keep safe
So lovely to see the rebuild, I was in Christchurch 9 years ago and there was still a huge exclusion zone so you couldn’t get anywhere near the centre, so awful to see. Glad it looks like they’ve made a great recovery!
I'm glad you took us on a short walk around the "parts not yet back and running" - a pal said recently that the city even after all this time, is still struggling. This was when I was talking about the loss of retailers in Auckland from the Pandemic/economic downturn - but from your point of view eateries up and coming. We seem to be a nation of "eating out people" - not that I do that much, but the younger generation
Yeah, we thought it was important to show both sides but we've visited a few times over the past 10 years and the buzz is definitely back in town which is nice to see ❤️
To be honest, parts of the CBD have been struggling for decades since the days of unbridled retail expansion in the inner suburbs. It was already known that Christchurch had levels of shopping far greater than the population warranted but the Council kept permitting more. So there will always be a pull to mall shopping in the suburbs which also affects all retail in town.
Holy Hell you two! This was an awesome episode. The production values were top notch and the acting superb!!!🤣😆👍🏻. Ok ok, it wasn't acting, l know that, but you do have seriously good production skills. Your camera work and editing is beyond excellent in this episode. Your work seems to have a great sense of pace, content and timing. Can't think of anyone doing it better!
thanks for a great tour, I've now seen some great places in my city I didn't know existed.I'm now hungry and will have to go there and sample some great eats! well done by a delightful couple and cheers for sharing.
That was so great. I have lived in the country just out of Christchurch for40 years now but prior to that I lived in Christchurch for 25 years. Have not been back since the earthquake. You made me homesick. As soon as the warm weather comes I will go in for the day. It looks so different and yet still the same. So exciting. Where are you from ? You sound like New Zealanders. ❤️
So glad we could take you on a walk down memory lane. They've done a great job of blending the old with the new so we're not surprised it still feels the same but different! We're from Auckland ❤️ but been on the road travelling full time for the past 4 years!
Was last back in C Church in 2017 and it seems to have progressed even further, so good to see! I now live in the UK, but was there also a year before the big quake and to be honest, it was heartbreaking to see the damage, but, still had an amazing time. NZ is a really amazing, beautiful country, and you showcase it so well. Many thanks again for your videos :-)
So heartbreaking to see the damage but they have done such a great job with the rebuild (from a tourist perspective anyway) Sounds like it's definitely worth coming back for another visit someday :)
I don't know if it's still around but I used to go to Elliot Stables in Auckland when I lived there and Little High kind of reminds me of it with the upmarket food court vibes and all the wood and brick.
When I was in Christchurch last it was during the start of the Covid lockdown and I couldn’t travel for my final 3 days of my time in New Zealand, I missed so much looking at what you’ve been doing in the city
As soon as you guys said about the caff and cafe, I knew exactly which one was going to be the terrible one 🤣 The riverside market looks so nice. We have our own versions of this, but horrible shiping containers - Christchurch's looked gorgeous!!! ❤️
Funny you say shipping containers, the riverside market used to be a container mall! Full of shipping containers repurposed as shops. It was really cool! But the markets are definitely better 🤞
Looks like there are some really cool places in Christchurch- I have to say that rooftop bar, and the food there did look so good! That chicken batter looked perfect!😋
FOOD! looking forward to the two week food tour(Stacey you have to plan it), so many choices. And me thinks y'all just barely scratched the surface. Probably have to balance out food days with extra walking days. Looking forward to the next video, safe travels. Cheers!
Next time you are in CHCH check out Saturday’s cafe in New Brighton. The food is super instagramable! Especially the granola and porridge. The waffles are epic too!
I’m here for you guys doing a full week food tour!! Anywhere you want to go, and just eating your way around, maybe that could be your next road trip? Eating around New Zealand 😂 loved this one as per! The food looked so good!
It was definitely the corn you missed out on. Lol Just had a vegan curry ramen on Friday with corn and it was really good. Kinda surprised you didn’t go for the pizza. 😉
You guys keep making me hungry with these food vlogs! I am a dim sum lover and those dumplings with chili sauce looked to die for! And I love your honesty when you try something not good.. can't wait to see you enjoy an epic bowl of ramen when you make it to Japan! So cool to see the variety of options in Christchurch. 😎
What a fun video! I work near the Riverside Market. Love going there for lunch on occasion. So many yummy choices. Also love going to Little High on the weekend for a treat. Bacon Bros is yummy, but really huge servings. I share a burger with my husband. Or I love to get the katau donburi from eightgrains. So yummy!
Eating is my favorite! Oh my, those waffles sounded absolutely amazing! Haha, Danger's face with his first bite. Also, there is always room for both (candy and donuts) 😉
