You just gotta love when the UA-cam algorithm digs up gems like this
Mike Stern ... knocking out those lines like a machine ....
mike stern solos are sick
I literally just came of a Mike Stern concert here in Cali (Colombia), just a few hours ago, at Ajazzgo Festival, it was just mind blowing!
liar. he did not play a show that night. he had a fever and severe diarrhea.
@@dd61125 ¿What?
Счастливчик 👍
Io non ho mai sentito un tipo di "fusion" che mi entusiasmi come questi brani del gigantesco Miles mischiato alla fantasia di Marcus ed alla incredibile chitarra di Stern. Questo è il gruppo dei miei sogni.......
First time I saw Miles was at 42nd st Pier on the West Side of NYC in July of 1982. Beautiful summer evening. Same band as this, similar set list. They played for an hour and a half.. They were AWESOME!!!
sounds awesome, i was 7 at that point and chilling out in a nearby suburb listening to iron madien lol.
I saw Stern in about 2002 and he was the coolest dude ever!
This Line up is just the best
6:53 Miles Smiles
Dude. Mike Stern was so killing on those Miles records!
The man with the horn !!!!!
Nao Quero ouvir o M. Stern
Eu quero o M. Stern
Imagine Bill Evans, the pianist, getting into fusion. Man.
Hard to imagine, given that he had no interest in it.
He did dabble in the electric keyboard but it didn’t hold his interest.
@@collegecarcompany1 Yeah, he played some Fender Rhodes, but what he played on it was not "fusion."
He did make one album, "Living Time" with George Russell Orchestra that's kind of fits that bill.
At the start it comes up as Bill Evans on sax and flute, so not the pianist Bill Evans ....
My favorite album by MD is "We Want Miles". And "On the Corner". And "In A Silent Way".
"Kind of Blue" did I say?
Great stuff 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Miles is like the fusion Count Basie on Rhodes. The fewest possible notes having the greatest impact musically
I'm loving how Marcus Miller is 'not playing' on the intro to this performance. Like a sea monster cruising just beneath the surface, waiting to strike...
Nice simile
How poetic....sea monster, waitin to srike....of course you have your stupid own ideas about music
What a great post! I saw this BAND of masters at the Hollywood Bowl "Miles Davis Day' in Los Angeles. It was a life-changing experience for a 21-year-old musician. Stern & Evans had just debuted on the scene via the release of 'Man with the Horn' marking Miles' return to public life. A great piece of history to re-live here. Miles' magic sprinkled all over the jazz world with his return. DIG IT!
Stern had already played with Blood Sweat and Tears and with Billy Cobham before playing with miles.
Yea, and Marcus Miller (probably one of the most accomplished bassist since Jaco) , was 22 years old at the time. He was a part of the Band of masters. Miller ended up producing albums for Miles, Sandborn, Luther Vandross, Shorter and more.
I love how at 10:20 Miles plays just a few notes and everybody listens and responds to the change of direction.
It’s called rehearsals.
thats what made him so great - being able to lead w/o steppin on toes
@@kennypriest7434 Miles a Nancy boy ? He was a boxer and beat a smack addiction !

Thank you
BIG TIME !!
FAT TIME!!!:)
@@dominicdobernowsky7840 True BIG but also FAT back then ;)
Serious guitar
Thank you for the inspiration!
They were flying high, one of the most inspired concerts!
Both chemically and musically!
I saw this band with Darryl Jones, when Scofield joined, so he and Stern were both playing. Stern stood like a statue all night. Next time I saw them Stern had left.
nice start with bill evans flute, i love Miles Experience, All !! It is the clearest example of the transformation / EVOLUTION of music, improvised, throughout the 20th century
One of the best shows a have ever witnesed
Quel souvenir de ouf!! j'ai assisté à leur concert en 1982 au théâtre du Chatelet

I had not seen this band perform, I saw Miles at Hollywood Bowl with Robben Ford and Bob Berg Al Foster. Once with Reggie Lucus, Bennie Maupin, Carlos Garrnet, Khalil Balakrishna, Badal Roy, Al Foster, Michael Henderson and Mtume. at Stanford University, 72' First time hearing Bill Evans play flute!
so much welcome space.....
Is this supposed to be music or just noise?
Mike Steen is on FIRE -
He’s up there …
Siempre notable!! Sigues siendo el mas grande MIles!!
Miles Davis es un notable músico Jazz además está junto a muy destacados exponentes de la música.
Brilliant!
It's like they took the last two notes that could be the end of a tune and made that the whole tune.
Be's that way sometime...
Miles joue comme il peut mais il a un groupe de feu. Avec un Français: Mino Cinelu aux percussions.
I've not heard this version before! Must have been one of the other nights in London!
mantotep so pure music...
28:00 que belleza "The Chicken"
I’m by no means a Stern aficionado, but have been a casual listener for 25 years, and been aware of him for over 30. It’s interesting to see him playing that CBS strat.
Listen to the Upside Downside album.
@Jean Luc. Good eye. How can you identify that it is a CBS strat? The "C" stands for California", correct? I'm wondering because I have one. Is it because the truss adjustment is at the heel? Or some other identifying feature?
Just looked at mine after reading more comments. Is it the big headstock?
@@bh8365 The large headstock is first clue. And this would’ve been during Fender’s CBS-era.
@@bh8365 BTW. I used to be “Jean Luc” but felt like a name change.:)
R.I.P. Miles
I’ll be looking for (2) to finish checking out that amazing bass solo!

Wow...¡¡nunca me había aburrido escuchar a Mike Stern!! 😅
mike stern is awesome
what a band...
Велика музика, великих людей.
Grazie mille
This is epic.
immensi!!!!!!!!!
Miles was coming out of retirement and put together this band. The best thing to come out of it was Marcus, who went on to write and produce for Miles. Miles hadn't got his chops all the way back during this period.
Mike STERN,le GOAT... après Jimmy!
zen stern🐬
Grazie Telekabul
Génie.
Young mike with stil his stratocaster.
Marcus a little shy...
Mike Stern looks so different, playing a strat and all..
Miles in front of Stern, that must be raising the level of anxiety a little 😏
Yup
Insanity pure bliss and insanity
Clean guitar baby
Miles really pushed Stern and made him such a good player. He no longer seems to have these chops. Very refreshing to hear him playing like this! Th London gig based on this tour is worth a watch. The whole band was smoking and helped Miles who was very ill and weak at the time!
Check out some of the live stuff Stern did with Michael Brecker in the late 80's. I saw that band twice and I think that's when Stern was at his peak. Their version "Upside/Downside" is awesome.
He has permanent nerve damage in his right hand from a fall he took a few years back that shattered both of his arms. He actually uses wig glue to keep from dropping the pick, it’s pretty incredible he’s still playing at such a high level.
@@b0gzie I saw him at Ronnie Scott's in the 90's I stood just a few feet from him. He was on it that night!
are you a clown? of course he doesn't play like he did when he was this age! He's 70 years old now! and has suffered a serious injury. You would know that/take that into account if you were a true fan but, obviously, you are just another internet troll. What was your point again?
Listen : Eric Lelann album named "New York" with Cinelu : Stern : Winsberg etc
good
Marcus is getting no love from the cameraman.
Yea, WTF? Even during his solo...did Marcus steal the camreman's girlfriend?
At that time Marcus was not THE Marcus Miller.
@@rmoraespinto música é música. O cara tá lá metendo um groove nervoso e ninguém filma o cara. Fora que o Miles só pegava os cobra pra tocar com ele

Mike Stern without the annoying chorus sound and a strat hallelujah!
Ken lawrence
But i have to say that his chorus is significant for him and it really sounds great , it works well for him ;)
@@TheMetalslayer100 i cant stand his playing and sound for a whole album on most of his solo records. so sad since hes brilliant
@Justus Bacon
I understand this, his sound is that unique that you have to love it, or you just don‘t like it at all...
For me it‘s one of my favourite sounds, because with the chorus he wants to sound as wide as possible, with a warm-horn-like-sound... and for me the thing is, that if i hear that sound for only one second, i know that could only be Mike Stern playing...
So i think he is one of the players wo have really created his own voice with his effects :-)
@joesl8 if enough people tell you you're great you start to believe it
I personally like it but I respect your right to have an opinion
On the for real side, I've heard better from Miles
If the whole set is "out" it ruins your perspective of what "in" is
🌸😃🌱💙
Hey Lucio,
We love this video! Is there anyway I could get in
contact with the owner? A team and I are working on a Corona Virus project that
features this artist, and we could really use your help! If you dropped an
email to contact you, that would be great.
Thanks!

Where was the concert in Italia?
.👍
What album is this from?
Not the most vital Miles but still enjoyable
This Bill Evans plays Sax
😀💙💛🍀
Also the trumpet player looks like Hannibal Peterson......
now i know why miles called him « fat times » 😉
And flute I guess
Also the trumpet player looks like Hannibal Peterson if you didn’t say it was Miles Davis I would’ve just assumed it was Hannibal Peterson...
por cosas como esta uso internet y youtube,
...una fase un pò buia di Miles...
Mike is getting a very full and rounded sound from his Strat here. Were the pickups regular single coils ?
start around 5:00.
Yup. Got stolen later.
Neckpickup, maybe roll the Tone back on the guitar a few notches, and Bright Switch off on the Fender Twin amp.
those silverface twins sound like crap... hopefully they are backline.. playing is awesome though.
@Martin Turner . Mike goes over his pedals on a "Rig Rundown" on Premier Guitar UA-cam channel.

I didn’t see Miles until 1989 - I don’t think Mike Stern was still with him . TUTU was cool but the playing isn’t as good in my opinion . Saw him a couple times in Ohio at nearby Concert Halls , and Amphitheater.
What the heck is the track at around 18:15
Is this good.
Yes.
Miles just look at Stern and get one insight.
This gay get future!
So there two Bill Evans’!?! Or is that THE Bill Evans? I was very impressed with what mike Steen was doing there, I almost thought it was Miles on the trumpet. Truthfully though, actually I DID think it was Miles, for like two seconds... lol
The art of looki g dead serious when uou have no idea what you're gonna play. Take away the amplification and delays and this is pretty lacki g in harmonic connections. And definitely not groundbreaking even in its time. Miles has great tone, that's about all there is.
Mike very young and fatter..use big headstock lol..only mike use strat/tele in miles line up.
William Wijaya Fat Time
Well damn... I also hate getting extremely into something and right when the bass player start jamming, it cuts off!!! Smgdh... what is wrong with you people!?!

He was 55 on this gig in 1982.
