Unless they are pirates, like legitimately pirates and not just a socialist government, all vessels over a certain tonnage have a legal responsibility to rescue floaters. However since it was an unarmed vessel full of civilians, it couldn't gaurantee the ability maintain security of force (the ability to maintain authority of individuals by force of power) and couldn't guarantee safety of civilians, which takes priority at sea over protection POWs. Wierdly enough the "I have Civilians abroad" card is a legitimate reason to leave enemy sailors in the water and is one of the reasons most navies have civilian contractors abroad in non combat roles because holy shit is it hard to keep prisoners on a vessel. I think most air craft carriers can only reasonably keep like 50 POWs without support outside of normal fleet operations
It’s a wonder the Venezuelan Navy didn’t try to accuse them of piracy. I’ve had a few run-in’s with Venezuelan navy vessels in past years (I used to captain a 95 foot yacht in a charter business, and sailed those waters frequently.) Their navy is a joke, but a dangerous and scary one. Once, they even tried to board us, well into international waters, but I managed to outrun them in the direction of a U.S. Navy ship. I had a U.S. home port/registration and flew a U.S. flag, so I knew if I could get within 25 nautical miles of a U.S. Navy ship, they wouldn’t dare touch us. Scary stuff!
"In a statement released by Venezuela on 31 March, RCGS Resolute was accused of committing an act of "aggression and piracy" by intentionally ramming and sinking Naiguatá while the patrol boat was conducting a maritime traffic control operation, as well as of acting "cowardly and criminal" for not participating in the search and rescue of the patrol boat's crew of 44, all of which were rescued by other Venezuelan vessels." I would love to see you cover the Dogger Incident which took place during the Russo-Japanese War in 1905. In the leadup to the Battle of Tsushima, a Russian fleet was sailing past Britain, headed to Japan to confront the Japanese. The Russians had heard fictitious reports of Japanese torpedo boats operating in the area and were on high alert. In the Dogger Bank incident, the Russian fleet mistook a group of British fishing trawlers operating near the Dogger Bank at night for hostile Japanese ships. The fleet fired upon the small civilian vessels, killing several British fishermen; one trawler was sunk while another six were damaged. In confusion, the Russians even fired upon two of their own vessels, killing some of their own men. The subsequent Battle of Tsushima saw the Imperial Japanese Navy humiliate the Russians in one of the most decisive battles in naval history.

Not to mention crew costs. Very skilled labor from people willing to spend months on end away from home.
its 2020 where cruise shipping is at its lowest due to a certain disease. And they want that ship to be sold so the company can at least acquire some money.
@johnpublic6582 I don't like the way that smug cloud is looking at me. It's so patronizing. 😊 I told it to stop, but it's too dense to understand.
imagine being a passenger and just see a navy ship sink right next to you
It's like that scene in Wolf of Wall Street when they got rescued by a ship
Made its passengers upset, got arrested a couple of times, and it sunk a navy ship - this vessel is a rascal 😂😂😂
Won a fight against army officers... He's doing better than my uncle!
The Venezuelans weren’t trying to steal the ship there were trying to expropriate it
EXPROPIESE.
Pffftt. Somebody knows their Vz lore.
Strategic Transportation of Equipment to an Alternate Location.
This must be the first ship sunk with a legit battering ram in nearly 200 years. That's kind of impressive.
There have been ships sunk purposefully by ramming in ww2, and accidental ramming (like this was) happens every once in a while
HMT Olympic (yes, that Olympic): *distant metal-on-metal scraping noises* "What, he was gonna shoot me with a torpedo!"
@@saudade7842 Yeah but this had an actual battering ram on the front of the ship.
They had rams in the 1890s. Famously. H.G. Wells' fictional HMS Thunderchild was a ram. No other armament.
@@Heike-- No, the HMS Thunderchild as described in the book was an "ironclad torpedo ram". Essentially a ship with a ram bow and fixed torpedo tubes like a submarine. Those didn't really see use though, and the Thunderchild was only able to use her cannons before being cut down.
Ramming an enemy vessel and sinking her. Nice throwback to the classic days of naval warfare.
More like ramming and sinking yourself
I am from Venezuela and this just made my day, thank you very much!
This is right up there with "Losing a war to flightless birds".
How about, being run by cannibal gangs??
Emus😊
I feel like when you fire at a vessel, you cannot complain when that vessel does not rescue you.
Also, I think the way you say "indicted" is funny.
I love how an Irishman pronounces film.
International law disagrees
@@ambiguousdrink4067Except the warship is the one that rammed a civilian cruise liner. The Navy literally fucked around and found out.
@@ambiguousdrink4067 war crimes mean literally nothing. The country that commits the war crimes gets to decide if they're guilty or not, which is exclusively no.
The idea of war crimes is absurd. You know what should be a war crime? Committing war at all.
I would love to see you cover the Dogger Incident which took place during the Russo-Japanese War in 1905.
Ahhh The 2nd Pacific Squadron of the Russian Imperial Navy. Their entire disasterous voyage could make for a 3 hour long video and still be entertaning.
Hell honestly he should just make a video on the entire voyage of the Russian Baltic Fleet
Drachinifel made an absolutely hilarious video series on this fiasco. The Kamchatka strikes again!
I mean, the entire "Voyage of the Damned" of the Baltic Fleet deserves a multi-part Bottles series.
And BlueJay also made a video about it.
Basically this entire situation is a comedy of errors that turned into a naval battle.
Fun Fact: There's even a morale patch made of "Battle of Tortuga" showing the sinking Venezuelan ship while the Resolute just drifts away.
As a brazilian, I'm glad to see that our neighbors are holding up that south american pride 💪
I love all of your videos, but I REALLY love the ones that you illustrate! You do such a great job, it's like getting twice as much out of the same story. Looking forward to the next one , keep up the great work and be safe.
That's pretty cool - there can't be many commercial ships out there with winning naval combat records.
The only other one I know of was the Olympic, which was the Titanic's sister ship who rammed and sank a German U-boat during ww1. Takes a lot of courage to ram your ship, knowing its identical sister sank from hitting an iceberg.
not in modern times but during the age of discovery it was pretty normal, and if I remember properly even the Opium Wars started with a commercial ship winning.
@@oliverlane9716eh, to be perfectly honest iceberg is much bigger and more durable than ww1 uboat
@@wlodek7422 Plus the fact that they were actually ramming the uboat head on unlike the sister ship that ended up dragging along the side of the iceberg.
Remember that even if you're having a bad day, at least you didn't get sunk by a unarmed ship that could barely fuel itself.
As a Colombian, this is hilarious to me. The fact that Venezuela still postures agaisnt us is laughable
Your country is ran by cartels, I wouldn’t all high and mighty
I wouldn't posture against a country which police took down Escobar, who had an army of his own, which itself could overtake another country.
Just sending Columbian drug cartel there would probably annihilate the entire armed forces
Columbia is one of the few stable countries in south America. Respect yall
@@dankengine5304 I wouldn't call us stable (we love having civil wars), but thanks!
Nothing wrong with a tasteful civil war now and then
You know you've failed as a navy when one of your warships takes on an unarmed cruise ship and loses
Thanks!
I’m so happy you’re about to hit a million bro. Been watching for a few years now and you’re the only channel I’ve actually stayed watching cause I LOVE IT. You deserve all the growth, congratulations for real
Well said...
This is crazy. I legit just get off a cruise ship yesterday. Couldn’t imagine this happening with my family.

Much to the annoyance of passengers.
jesus, fair play to ye!
I wouldnt DARE admit I took a cruise ship holiday...
AND PAID FOR IT!!!😂😂😂
Almost a million subs, you're killing it my man.
New videos always as entertaining as the last if not more so.
I always think "Oh, what a clickbaiting title!"
But then I'm always wrong because these ridiculous stories are in fact accurately described by the titles.
It's kind of a nice surprise when that happens.
Qxir baby, you are just getting better and better! All of the highlights already mentioned in the comments were superb, but for me the quip on " Patronizing me" was absolute GOLD, as was the " we can enjoy some Bruskis on the blue seas with some floozies on the cruisies". Just brilliant! Can't wait to pop the cork when you hit 1M subs xxx
Just learned about this fuster cluck yester day. Pleasantly surprised to see you uploading a video today and learned more about the in depth history and backstory of the incident then I did in my initial intake of the story. And that's why I'm subscribed to you good sir.
Edit: Much to the annoyance of passengers /s
Venezuelan navy attacks cruise ship, lives to regret it, what happens next is _shocking_
Why are you everywhere I go 😂😭
Another thing to love about qxir - no clickbait bs
This is an AI bot, it reads the title and recent comments
much to the annoyance of passengers
This cruise ship has one weird trick they don't want you to know about.
The designs of the ship and OneOcean Man are golden
You are by far my favorite UA-cam story teller!
I've followed you from nearly the beginning of your channel.
Venezuelan navy is truly one of the navy of all time
If not the most navy
Debatable
I love this kid... who else? great story telling boyo. its your wit and intelligence that keep me watching. great judgment in story selection too. drawings are on a level of genius i cant critique
Arrested 3 times and sank a navy boat.
That’s a pretty badass ship
I just found your channel a couple months ago and I must say this is one of my favorite youtube series of all time. Maybe it’s something about your narration, cute drawings, or humor. Probably a combination of the three. Anyways, thank you for the awesome content.
& the way he says "3" tree.
"This is your captain speaking. Seems we had a little trouble with a military vessel, but we'll still be on schedule. We thank you for your understanding. "
Yes! Yes! You finalize cover this.
I heard about it three weeks ago-and omg thank you for being so awesome
This is like trying to fight a swinging-door and getting a smackdown by it.
Little known fact - the Venezuelan navy subsequently went on to operate submarine tours of the Titanic.
So happy youll soon be hitting a million Qxir. You're someone who i never miss. Been subbed with notifications for at least two years, still love all you do
I feel bad for the annoyed passengers, they’re the true victims in this story being mentioned so many times.
The annoyed passengers are Navy crew ;)
I left venezuela over 10 years ago. No regrets. Cheers Qxir.
Don't feel to bad about yourself Venezuela you might have one of your patrol boat's sunk by a cruise ship of all things but at least you did not loose your flagship to a country that does not even have a navy
The subtitles started before qxir so I had to imagine chills saying "if you're on board a cruise ship, the last thing you'd want is the venezuelan navy to fire at you"
But as it turns out, that might be what you get....
I read it in his voice, gtfo 😂😂
Also, "gaet**" 😁

2:36 Nova Scotia mentioned baby! Let's gooo!
Look, it's a small province that doesn't see that much recognition. I'm happy to see my home province mentioned wherever I can find it
love your vids sir. A splendid blend of (dark) humor and interesting little tales. What better combo is there in a youtube channel?
Your drawing of the boat getting arrested is hilarious lol
I sink slow too.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Much to the annoyance of passengers.
6:19 "The Naiguata started to take on water and sink, much to the annoyance of passengers." Your comic timing caught me completely off-guard and now my ribs hurt
I adore the trend the “ice hardened” civilian ships just kicking the ass of whatever they run into or being “tougher” then expected & survive the odds.
7:20 Being in a naval battle probably lowered the value of the ship slightly. Although I would say winning that battle could potentially increase its value too 😂.
In 2018 the USNS Comfort was on a humanitarian mission in Central and South America, and the Venezuelans mobilized some boats against us too. Just a little posturing, no shots fired or anything. We had a platoon or two of Marines on board, but judging from this incident, it looks like a couple of our nurses would have been enough to handle them.
I always love these stories and the animation style. Great work qxir!!
Great drawing at 7:24 of the captain whistling and watching the Venezuelan ship sink, love it
If a ship fires on another ship, it loses all right to complain about not being rescued by their would-be victims.
I wasn't expecting such a small cruise ship
It looks average size to me 😳
Sailing with one of those giant, multi-billion dollar ships to places like Antarctica is economically unviable, because of the demand being not high enough.
Such big cruise ships need thousands of people to book the trip, to break the bank. Those boats chug gas like no tomorrow, plus each day it spends idle, you loose a crap ton of money
Much to the annoyance of passengers.
"I have a brilliant idea to revitalize our dead tourism industry!" - Some Venezuelan Navy Captain
This has roughly the same energy as a trained military personnel losing in a fight with an overweight teenager that has a habit of swindling people out of their money by tripping on his foot and faceplanting into the ground.
Your so close to 1 million man i hope you get there i have been watching you for years
Solid story, dude. Thanks very much. Keep 'em coming.
Moral: Never cause disappointment to your passengers.
Lol I’m Venezuelan and in Venezuela rn and this made me laugh lol
Venezuelan here (not in venezuela tho) this made me laugh too
Imagine losing a naval battle against an unarmed ship. That's embarrassing for Venezuela tbh
Love your outros on "Tales From the Bottle". I know it's basically your ad but it's always funny and clever. Keep it up!
Good to know that ancient naval tactics still work to an extend today.
Lesson learned, never board a ship with a lengthy arrest record!
This is like trying to play a tabletop game and you get such a bad roll you trigger a series of unlikely events that screw you over
There's an old saying that goes:
"Much to the annoyance of the passengers"
this is one of the best youtube channels
The way you pronounce "aires" will be the death of me, Amazing video as always!!!
How bad can you be if your patrol boat looses a fight against an unarmed cruise ship under maintenance?
I love how the passangers where always ending to take the punishment
how can you sell a cruise ship that sank a navyship for only 600k
If I had known it was for sale I would have put together one of those 'sell shares in my big idea' old west companies and bought it myself. Step 3: Profit.
@@johnpublic6582Profit? Having a whole ass cruise ship is profit enough!
They had to buff out the patrol boat shaped dents on the bow.
