I met someone very recently who had picked an armful of them and gotten really really ill. She said she is still suffering after 2 weeks. I wish she had seen your PSA!

From my understanding she is incredibly lucky! I hope she makes a full recovery

If we were all taught properly, as we should be, we would know simple things such as this at an early age.

Is this native to Ohio too?

Its native across much of the united states and Canada, but making gains in territory, and there are 4 other species in the genus. Very likely the largest (and most aggressive) is pressent in Ohio, Cicuta douglasii, but entirely possible that conium maculatum is there too.
