      Kind of like sprite, but softer bubbles and mouthfeel with a toned down citrus flavor.

    Do you worry that boiling down will remove any medicinal properties? I have done tea for a while & never let the water boil. Thanks

      Because mucilage, The main medicinal component is a complex polysaccharide, I am not overly concerned with higher temperatures affecting it's Medicinal value. If you had a centrifuge or an ultrasonic extraction method that would give you a higher percentage yield but not necessarily any more potent of an extraction and high temperature aqueous solution is considered the most cost effective extraction method for mucilage.

    I read red elderberry is toxic

    • @PonderinginthePines
      @PonderinginthePines 5 місяців тому

      If eaten raw yes. A small portion people experience gastro intestinal upset cooked or not, as with any wild foraged plants, small portions to start and see how it affects you, and definitely lots of research is recomended!

    • @PonderinginthePines
      @PonderinginthePines 5 місяців тому

      While the seeds of the red elderberry are poisonous, if they are removed, the berries can be eaten raw or cooked. In their raw form, these berries (and seeds) were specifically helpful to Native Americans as they were used as an emetic and purgative to detoxify the bodily system in laxative form. While this may be true, the toxicity is greatly reduced when the berries are cooked, and they can be enjoyed in foods such as pies, jellies, or even in wine. Interestingly, the leaves were used to treat boils, and the root could be infused to treat stomach pains or rubbed onto the skin to help with aching or sore muscles.

    Nice...My dad used to take me and my brother up to the Belgrade lakes in Maine during the spring in the 80's, We would catch Smallies and Landlocked salmon ALL day! We would release the Smallies and most of the salmon....but we would keep a couple salmon for dinner. Good times.

    • @PonderinginthePines
      @PonderinginthePines 5 місяців тому

      Sounds great! Smallies are such limited populations here in colorado that we pretty much exclusively catch and release, but the kokanee salmon are delicious!

  • @Mustang_Dan

    How are there people who catch and release but don’t know how to revive a fish? When you put them in the water and they just sit like that, you need to grab their tail and move them back and forth to get the water to flow over their gills so they can start breathing again.

    • @PonderinginthePines
      @PonderinginthePines 5 місяців тому

      Alternately when bass are cold they are verrrrry sluggish, and they can take a moment to decide to leave- hence the tail hold which was maintained until he surged forward quite healthily. Now a limp fish, or one not moving its fins (unconscious from being out of water too long) should absolutely be revived as you describe, but this technique is not always necessary if they dont swim away immediately once back in the water

      The seeds are mild narcotic and as such *might* be good for pain and mild sedative. More often the indigenous groups in the united states and french trappers would use a decoction of the yellow flowers in an oil to relieve pain from ear aches or tooth aches. Better for pain would be wild lettuce, which we will go over in upcoming videos, or possibly willow bark.
