Patti LuPone & Tituss Burgess sing Meadowlark Together

Catie Lazarus welcomed Broadway legend Patti LuPone and fellow Broadway star Tituss Burgess to sing Meadowlark on her talk show Employee of the Month at Joe's Pub at The Public Theater. Pianist Andrew Gerle accompanied LuPone, a two time Grammy, two time Tony and Olivier Award winning actress, and Burgess, an Emmy nominated actor, in a never rehearsed, never done before together duet.
Patti originally sang Meadowlark in The Baker's Wife in 1976. Since then it has become one of her signature songs, alongside Evita's Don't Cry for Me Argentina. Patti is currently starring in Penny Dreadful on Showtime. Tituss, who is currently starring in Netflix's Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and also starred in Jersey Boys and The Little Mermaid on Broadway loves to sing Meadowlark. When the fabulous Seth Rudetsky noted on his own show that Burgess can sing in LuPone's range, Catie Lazarus decided to bring the phenomenal duo together. The music and lyrics were written by Stephen Schwartz.

This was the most painful rendition of one of my favorite songs that I've ever heard. Burgess didn't know the lyrics and did a horrible job of faking it, and his harmony hurt my ears. Leave "Meadowlark" to Patti. She created it!

Burgess has fairly famously sang this song many many times. I'm pretty sure he knew the lyrics. He normal sings it a half-step down from patti and the video shows them both struggling to match harmonies unrehearsed. I wish the rehearsed - it could have been amazing.
