This is strange. I feel completely the opposite. There's no depth to his voice. It's bright and tinny. I'm not saying it's bad. But open and warm? Definitely not.
And the nicest thing is that he's the NICEST guy, too. I met Andrew when he was touring as Bob Gaudio in Jersey Boys here in Cleveland before Book of Mormon even existed. I can say I "knew him when", and he deserves every bit of notoriety he gets. Beautiful job, Andrew!
I don't know how I've never heard this before. I've now been listening to this on repeat, mixed with a few other artists versions including Patti, Betty, and Alice. Each one is so unique, but so moving and beautiful. It's kind of blowing my mind right now. :-)
Holy S&(&%^&%%^&_^&@(#&%^TTT!!! That was AMAZING!!!! I met Andrew in Cleveland on the closing day of Jersey Boys' first Cleveland engagement. He was playing Bob Gaudio, and Book of Mormon didn't even exist yet. I already knew he had great things ahead of him, but I can say I "knew" him when. Andrew, you NEVER disappoint!!!!!
I was looking through so gs he sang live and this is one of my favs. I have listened to the version of Patti LuPone and (dont blame me) but i like his version more. It is a bit slower i think and his range matches the song. I want a recording of this. This man never fails to amaze me.
what an amazing version of this song. The slightly slower tempo allows the listener to hear the lyrics and appreciate how beautiful they really are. The music is bright and sparkles as a counterpart to the tragic elements in the story. Andrew has the chance to open up and let his talent shine and it's marvelous. It's a credit to all performers that perform songs across gender lines. Tituss and Andrew should get many kudos for their efforts.
I first heard the song last week at BroadwayCon when Betsy Wolfe sang it and fell in love with it. I wanted to look it up, and lo and behold, before I even put it in the search box, I saw this in my recommended videos! Andrew killed it :-)
when i was a girl l i had a favorite story of the meadowlark who lived where the rivers wind her voice could match the angels' in its glory but she was blind, the lark was blind an old king came and took her to his palace where the walls were burnished bronze and golden braid and he fed her fruit and nuts from an ivory chalice and he prayed: "sing for me, my meadowlark, sing for me of the silver morning, set me free, my meadowlark, and i'll buy you a priceless jewel and cloth of brocade and crewel and i'll love you for life, if you will sing for me." then one day as the lark sang by the water the god of the sun heard her in his flight and her singing moved him so he came and brought her the gift of sight he gave her sight and she opened her eyes to the shimmer and the splendor of this beautiful, young god, so proud and strong and he called to the lark in a voice both rough and tender "come along. fly with me, my meadowlark, fly with me on the silver morning, past the sea where the dolphins bark we will dance on the coral beaches, make a feast of the plums and peaches just as far as your vision reaches fly with me." but the meadowlark said no for the old king loved her so she couldn't bear to wound his pride so the sun god flew away and when the king came down that day he found his meadowlark had died every time i heard that part i cried ... and now i stand here starry-eyed and stormy oh, just when i thought my heart was finally numb a beautiful, young man appears before me, singing "come, oh, won't you come?" and what can i do if finally for the first time the one i'm burning for returns the glow? if love has come at last it's picked the worst time still i know i've got to go fly away, meadowlark fly away in the silver morning, if i stay, i'll grow to curse the dark so it's off where the days won't bind me i know i leave wounds behind me but i won't let tomorrow find me back this way before my past once again can blind me fly away ... and we won't wait to say good-bye my beautiful young man and i.

Before my past once again can blind me, Fly away. And we won't wait to say goodbye, My beautiful young man and I.
This is not an easy song to sing. It requires lots of support and sustaining long notes. I've been singing it for years but I feel like I've just heard it for the first time!

can I just say this is amazing, like it's absolutely beautiful, Andrew Rannell's voice is amazing. (on another note he licked his lips 15 times but honestly, sometimes you have to when you sing or else you get, stuck, if you know what I mean so I get it.) p.s. Just clarifying, not a criticism I think he's amazing, I was just noting cuz I thought it was kind of funny.
Andrew's voice is so open and warm and expressive
erin h I want his voice to hug me
This is strange. I feel completely the opposite. There's no depth to his voice. It's bright and tinny.
I'm not saying it's bad. But open and warm? Definitely not.
@@mestewart82 You are very generous. I find it abrasive and utterly unpleasant.
Warm is not the word I would use. Although he us good
@@mestewart82exactly. The texture is, uhm, sharp? If there’s such thing… reminiscing of Jeremy Jordan’s whiny voice (again if there’s such term lol)
Wowza! I couldn't believe he started that high with that key change coming but he totally owned it!
Such a moving song and, as always,Mr. Rannells nails it. The kisses he blows at the end were touching also.
After the first bar he sang, I knew he was about to BREAK MY HEART!!!! Beautiful!
He deserves a Tony for this performance alone
I've spent two days listening to various recordings......
This is the best. Hands down.
His voice of course is a favorite of mine. He is mind-numbingly handsome.
I don't know how I've never heard this before. I've now been listening to this on repeat, mixed with a few other artists versions including Patti, Betty, and Alice. Each one is so unique, but so moving and beautiful. It's kind of blowing my mind right now. :-)
cheezy31 make sure to hear liz callaway sing it!
Patrick Dolan Exactly what I was going to say! That was the first version I ever heard, and it still remains my favorite.
Sarah Brightman covered this, too. Was my first version of this song.
Listen to Hatty King. She's only a high schooler and she sounded beautiful.
you also have to listen to lindsay mendez if you havent ^-^
4:51 im just gonna leave this here so we can all listen to him hit that incredible note as much as we please
Aw man, this is so good! I hope he gets more broadway roles!
I just started watching this guy during 2020 quarantine, I’m in love❤️👌🏻
Andrew is perfection
He literally held that last note for 11 seconds, this man is a marvel and a blessing to humanity
Before my,

Whenever someone points it out there is no unseeing it
He needs some chapstick!

the way he sings it with such emotion made me cry. he has such a gift
I come back to this every few days and just cry

His range matches because it’s transposed to fit him.
Watching this tonight...I soooo miss life......will it ever return??????????

Love this.
Brings back memories when I got to solo parts of this when I was in the Seattle Men's Chorus.
4:53 ..... *gay gasp*
Such perfection.
Chills. And I've seen LaLupone do it. So gorgeous.
That was FUCKING SPECTACULAR.
It’s fun to hear these numbers in a different voice than they were ever conceived.
He's so expressive, I love it!
My favorite version of this song. So beautiful!
what a lovely voice he has
He can do no wrong. Just amazing.
LOVE this song, LOVE this performer
I'm addicted to this video.
Omg Rannells really killed it wow!!!
Andrew Rannells' rendition of "Meadowlark" takes Patti Lupone's and makes it that much better. And his range is amazing.
Steve Flower he sings so passionately ❤️
Awesome! Beautiful!
I just discovered this amazing performance an I cannot stop watching it❣️ Thank you Andrew‼️
This made me tear up. His unbridled joy makes my heart so happy. Well done, this makes me feel something and that's what really matters
That was so healing.
I love him so much. 20,000 mins on my Spotify wrapped just him 😃
this seems like SUCH a difficult song to sing. And he KILLED IT!!! I'm super impressed.
Andrew ❤️

Instant goosebumps every time I listen to this song!
What a fantastic piece of talent… thank you Andrew
His singing voice is amazing
Ok they should do a ‘Baker’s husband’ and cast Andrew.
Like as uhh Eugene instead of Genevieve
Does anyone else think that the music somewhat resembles the music of "Another Hundred People" from the musical Company?
PS. I ADORE Andrew Rannells
This was SO AMAZING!
his nervous hands in the beginning oh im crying
He’s so incredible.

The power in his voice in this song is so amazing and it reminds me of the power he has in falsettos
Andrew slayyyeeed the meadowlark and cooked it with herbs and spices. Such an intelligent musician!
I love this song

Awesome!
kisses to u
Who are the heartless 19 people who have disliked this
Nope My guess? Diehard Patti LuPone who have some serious sour grapes on the fact that Andrew did a great job of his telling in this song
I'm thinking it's more likely people who've heard Sarah Brightman's version.
❤️
4:52 damnnnnn go off king
this was fucking magnificent
can i buy this on itunes

I know how that poor meadowlark felt.
I’m curious how people feel about this compared to Titus burgess doing it, I know he did a piece on obsessed with Seth rudetsky

High school
While I enjoyed this version; this song belongs to Ms. Betty Buckley. Do yourself a favor, and look it up.
im mad that a full grown man can belt that PAAAAAST on an E5 and i cant
Okay but what’s the deal with the pianist
Or am I crazy
Should be called "Mislit" instead of "miscast".... ugh.
