  • To all the Gen X parents shitting on the Gen Z kids right now, just remember you are the ones raising them. Gary finds it fascinating that there are so many adults that think kids these days are entitled and soft, but they don't even hold themselves accountable for raising them in that manner. Once we stop coddling the youth and handing out 8th place trophies, then we will see a shift in the mindset of the younger generations.
This video comes from Gary's trip to Stockholm in June 2019. Check out the rest of his trip in his "DailyVee" vlog series here: garyvee.com/Da...

I dont think you can blame your parents after you are 18 years old. You have to make your own choices and define your standards. People make exuces " oh my parents didn't raise me well" listen up dipshit you have to raise yourself sometimes when you want to do big things in life

@@nicolomachiavelli8543 that is your own opinion based on the experiences you lived. Im not justifying blaming other people for your problems, but its too easy to say "listen dipshit you have to raise yourself". A lot of people struggle with self worth, mental health, and bad behaviour because of their parents. And at 18 years old, its simply too young for the majority of people to "raise themselves" and overcome all the extremities. 18 years old is fucking young. I get what you are trying to say, but have more candor.

Whenever I feel uninspired I know all I have to do is watch a GaryVee video and it kinda keeps me going on. He's the reason I decided to start creating content about the stuff I love. Thanks, dude. When I first told my parents that I wanted to become a filmmaker they told me I was gonna starve, but the moment they understood I was serious about it, they weren't anything but support. That's what parents are supposed to be.

That meme about don’t give me everything you didn’t have, teach me everything you didn’t know is spot on. Financial smarts, street smarts, self worth, self responsibility and being kind but able stick up for themselves is far more imortant than giving them stuff and doing things to please them

I love very few men in my life, I only have two brothers and a step brother... With that said though, I think I can proudly say that I love Gary Vee or at least all the sense that's pouring out of his mouth... I find my self thinking, where on earth does a man aged 43 have so much insight into live and the lives of other people? Been trying to catch him out by listening to what he says and then questioning his statements, and in my own very humble opinion there's just a wealth of wisdom to learn from and no bullshit at all... Love you Gary!!!

I have 3 young ones at home. I find it is hard to balance pushing and encouraging our children while also trying to protect them. Maybe they don't need to be protected...I dont know. Parenting is hard....but it's my # 1 priority in this world. Unconditional love and support sometimes leads to entitled and soft children...it is a hard balancing act. I try to be more of the "I love you but you sucked today parent". Admitting that we as parents don't know what the fu*k we are doing is a good start.

Gary.. this is awesome. Ty! I have a 14 year old and I hold her feet to the fire almost every day. I say things to her like, “be a woman of your word or you will attract exactly what you are dishing out and believe me when I tell you, you do NOT want to be surrounded by people who will lie to you to get whatever they want out of you.” She fights me and becomes insulted that I “called her a lier.” But eventually she comes around to reality, takes responsibility and shows it with acts of self respect. I believe Holding them accountable is the antidote.

  • @ThePineapplePerspective

You are absolutely right Gary! We have to start with SELF and teaching what values make up the SELF ! It starts with teaching our kids VALUES, what they are, what they mean, how they are the foundation of everything we choose and do! Then we must introduce Self Awareness so that they stop, self challenge a decision against their values, and make the best choice for them in that moment. Finally, as you say over and over, Accountability is the glue that causes one to become self-aware and course correct!
Thank you for highlighting your value of Empathy so loudly!
What other values do you hold dear that you can begin to introduce to the masses?
We are the Human Values Center facilitate workshops supported by self-directed discovery around identifying and living by your own personal values, while teaching and building mechanisms for accountability within organizations, schools, companies, and families.

It's interesting how my parents were like most in the sense that they always compared me to others and wished I could be like others, yet this was probably how I never developed any sense of entitlement as I was often told I didn't do as well I could have etc. That hurt and made me look for their approval for much of my life but now that that's overcome, looking back, there were also some positives afterall. Self awareness is key.

Amazing topic and talk. Hardly no one else with this reach wants to talk about it. The parents Gary's referring to have not even fixed themselves. Always take shortcuts, instant gratification, dishonest. Never teach how to problem solve or handle hardship. We need to take ownership of our lives. Fix yourself first. Otherwise we end up with a world full of overgrown children.

dear lord, I feel that way and didn't get any of that benefit growing up. it's all about the mindset drilled in more than the environment you're living through, fear and infantising that I still struggle against every day. that is why I work smart rather than hard to teach my kids how to realise their potential in the way that is true to them and give them the guidance, freedom and hopefully the rules to see opportunity everywhere and internalise that it's up to how they realise that opportunity.
-- rant from here on --
I just don't understand why the world divides people up and that includes in age, because that is the point where people can get stuck in one grouping. At the end of the day, we are who we were when we started and we will be the same person we are at the very end. Sure, what we learn changes and our biology/health varies. Our dependancy will obviously change depending on situations but there is no line that defines you're a child/adult/ senior and there is no requirement for us to live up or down to the idea of what that means nor should we look at others with that narrow-minded categorisation. I can't stand people to treat children like they are always going to be children because that is exactly how they will remain if they do. I believe society used to do this but the more we move into this idea that children are fragile and old people are in the way the more our society is missing out on the potential inherently in it.
    Ok, I'm done

I'm grateful for my family members! But toxic family is real too. I love them, they are a wonderful, i love my mom, my siblings, but i love myself more! I'm the owner of my life, im responsible for my happiness, choices! I won't live someone else's life so I STEPPED OUT! I am fuckin happy now! :)

Hi Team Gary, you should do a video compiling all the times Gary speaks to parents, and the advice he has for us all. I am the parent of 3 young children, I've seen a couple of videos here and there about this subject, but itd be nice to have them all in one place. thanks

That is powerful words and a life changing message! It hit me in the recesses of my soul. Every “issue” that I butt heads with my son on is a self manifested problem that can easily be a non issue if I just stfu and listen to him. Mad respect GaryVee!

I was born into a privilege background went to private schools all around the world
Now my financial situation is also different I feel like such a failure for not optimising my opportunities
Now I'm a parent I realise I need to utilise what I do have because as Gary says it can always get worse
I'm not going to lie I do feel very bitter of my wealthy family and the fact I didn't take action with the privileges I was given but I need to stop or by the time 30 I feel I would condition my mind to lose and that WILL NOT happen
