Cabbages....Cosmos looking great and it is good to still have colour, i think some types of flowers up here in the north east are totally confused with the random weather, some flowers seemed to of finished flowering, but suddenly over the last week we have a burst of colour as more flowers appeared....keep up the good work
Cabbages!! I’m quite new to your channel and enjoying your videos. I don’t really plan other than what needs planting until I get to the plot. I like to sit and look around and have a ponder. There’s always a surprise job/harvest but that’s what keeps it interesting 😊
Hey there Gemma. I go out in the garden each day when I finish work at 9am, then do weeding, watering, harvesting while it is cooler in the day. Then the harvest becomes our lunch or tea for us, as we usually have green veg, potato or something yummy like that. My other job is that I put lots of seedlings out by 10am which I sell out on the footpath outside our house to have a second income.😊 It is really fun to be out there so it is never a difficult thing to go gardening for me.
I always go out in the garden at least once a day to dead head and check on everything. If I have time to get a quick seed planting/plant out done too, then I will. And then Sundays (weekends) tend to be when I spend longer out there, getting as many bigger jobs done as I can. But you are very right, chipping away at things is the way to do it. Progress over perfection 😊🪴💚
Sounds like you have a good routine that works for you 😊 that is what I'm working towards and hopwfuly I will find the sweet spot soon ☺️ have a great weekend 😊
Hi Kitty - very cute! Cosmos has been an utter star this year 🌸 Hope you're having a lovely holiday break, you got a lot done before you went away! Cabbages 🥬
I write lists and do the job I'm least looking forward to first to get it out of the way - then the other stuff doesn't seem so bad 🌿🌿🌿 we're having some quite warm days in Whitby this week I've pruned my tea roses planted crocus and given both gardens a final (hopefully) mow - my grandson Noah helped me rake up leaves and throw them into the border 🍁🍂 oh and cabbages 🌿🌿🌿😆
Hi Helena 👋 that is such a good tip to get the least favourite job out of the way first and something I do sometimes but should definitely do more often! Sounds like you've had a nice week, have lovely weekend 🥬🥬😊 x
Still having a harvest at this late date is great! I’m going to be planting my garlic tomorrow. We’ve had unusually warm weather. Today reached 20 degrees in Nova Scotia😱😱. Have a great term break with the kids. See you when you’re back❤
Great video Gemma. I spend ages going through my head on what I would like to be done and make a list. I take it down to the plot, completely ignore it, put the kettle on and have a brew! Then I walk around and make another list of what actually NEEDS to be done. I’m going to try harder next year! Deb
Thank You Deb 😊 Plans always seem to change when we get to the plot don't they 😅 I'm going to start enjoying more cups of tea at the plot for sure 😀 have a great weekend 🥬😊
Cabbages of course - we watch every second of your videos. You are a breath of fresh air and just so positive and hopeful. This is very much needed in America right now. Thank you so much!
Cabbages! Looking great there Gemma. We usually do our gardens during the weekends, as I need my husband to do the heavy work (I'm unable to do much in the way of heavy lifting, or digging, bending etc). I can do a bit of weeding, Max does the bigger stuff - I'm in charge of raising all the seedlings and planning the gardens each year, and tend to do this during the week while he works. Then in the weekends I tell him where to plant out and when things need spraying (organic only for the fruit trees etc) and any other jobs that need doing.
Hi Gemma, You managed some great little jobs before your holiday, and the plot looks great! I hope you all had a fabulous time? Cabbages 🥬 As you know...I garden at home, so every day is a 'plot' day. But some more than most, depending on whether I am have work or not that day. 😊 Have a fabulous weekend Take care, Annie 🐞 🐝 🌱
Hi Annie 👋 we have had a wonderful time Thank You 😊 I love that you have your 'plot' right outside your door, that's the dream for me 🥰 Have a wonderful weekend 😊 🥬
*CABBAGES* Hi Gemma! If you'll recall, last year I mentioned to you that my purple sprouting broccoli plants get huge but never produce a single floret, & after seeing how small yours were producing them I decided to experiment this season by putting a seedling directly into native soil and neglecting it other than regular watering. Well, it's still alive, not much bigger than it was when I planted it out in early spring, & it still never pushed any florets LOL I think I will try a couple more times before giving up, as broccoli is one of my favorite brassicas to eat.
Yes I do remember 🥦 yes give it a few more goes, I have to say I did that for a long time with shallots and now I've finally given up 😅 have a fabulous weekend 🥬🥬🥬
Cabbages We try to get to the plot at weekends when we both aren’t at work and i garden at home on my afternoons off. Hope you enjoyed your holiday seem your lovely photos on Danny’s live last night xx
Hi Julie, 👋 sounds like you have a good system to enjoy your garden ☺️ we are just at the airport now homeward bound we have had a great time Thank You, have a great weekend ☺️
Hi Gemma…I don’t really have a plan. I’m an emergency worker so do 6 on 3 off. I always go on one of my rest days as it’s how I unwind & decompress. Always hard if it’s raining though & it really frustrates me. CABBAGES 😂🎉
Hey Gemma, The King said "At the end of the day let All of my people have Cabbages"!! At the end of the day they all had Cabbage and it was good. Good to see you today. I have several wire bound notebooks. I keep the current one out and accessible. I write in there when I think about it start with a date. Write what I did what I thought what I bought or ordered ect. I make plans write down when this or that was planted fertilized watered ect. I will go back at the end of the season to the planning date to mark the good and bad things. During the winter I add things I learned or researched. I use my iphone calendar and set a reminder for March 1st that says check potato seed, onion starts as we want to plant them the week of March 17th every year. So I check I have them and I'm ready. Once a week there is an entry to start 8-10 various items during the next 7 days. I aim for 1-2 a day. I am disabled now and so I must do what I can each day knowing if I miss then tomorrow is just too much. I have adapted all I do to many different ways for me to do what I can do and be productive. One year after a lumbar fusion I had to plant the entire garden on my hands and knees. Because it was the only way and my mother drilled into me there was no such word as can't. The Military reinforced this concept so I believe it. So notebooks/ diaries and calendars are how I operate. Thank you for this video I am going to go have cabbage now!(wink wink)
You are very organised by the sound of it 👏 I am trying to be more like you and take notes and use calenders 👍 I like the idea of starting 1-2 things a day too that's a really good way of keeping things going and not ending up with a huge list of things to do at once. Thank You for sharing and have a fabulous weekend ☺️ hopefuly it involves enjoying some cabbages 🥬😉
@@GemInTheGarden I am very adamant about not scheduling xyz today and 123 tomorrow. With variables like physical stamina and weather I choose the best activities for that day. In the note book I write when I do and don't when I don't the scary thing is planning anxiety and failure into the gardening experience. My main motto is if you are not having fun go home. Life is way too short to be in places you do not enjoy. This year the best large grape size tomato just came up in the magnolia pea plants I have no idea the name I let it go it was so good I saved the seeds. Cya later Steven
Cabbages!! Great idea 😂 Gemma your videos are a great length and easy to watch from start to finish. Music is great too light and happy ❤ Hope you enjoyed your half term holiday. We are off to Yorkshire on Monday for a few nights. Then once I return I can crack on with mulching all my beds with new compost. Still need to tidy up our strawberries, they have taken over 😂 still producing and it’s November !! Happy growing ❤ Love Allie & Tricia xx
Hi Gem 👋❤ Always a concern when you're going away and leaving all your plants isn't it. Your Cosmos looks so pretty. I'm sure it'll all be fine for you to come home to so don't worry, just you enjoy every minute of your holiday ❤ x
Cabbages! And talking of cabbages I’ve just planted my overwintering ones! I’m an all or nothing gardener! Spend hours one day then nothing for a week lol! Love the channel❤️ps when are we going to see Vince ❤️❤️
Glad to hear you have your cabbages in 🥬😉 I will be doing mine when I'm back 👍 Vince will be very pleased that he is being asked for 😀 he will make an appearance soon 👏😆 have a fabulous weekend ☺️
Cabbages😅 I'm an as and when kind of gardener, I keep a list of jobs that I need to do and if I get 20 minutes or a while morning then I'll try and get what I can ticked off the list. I never get everything done mainly because it's pretty tricky juggling the allotment, garden, family and work. Hope you had a lovely holiday. Xx
Hi Gemma. I never really thought about how I prioritise! I suppose it’s nurture and monitor module and recently transplanted seedlings, slug/snail removal and weeding. I do have a system in place but there’s always a distraction or time restraint. There’s so much to do, isn’t there?!! Don’t know how you content creators find the time to do it all. Cabbages!! I’m new to your videos Gemma and really enjoying them. My first allotment has now filled up with cut flowers and soft fruit🌸🌺Luckily I have now expanded to the allotment next door and will be starting all over again. I’m hoping to do some veggies but don’t think I will be growing cabbages as I am a single pensioner I would last me ages. Hoping to do tomatoes, chillies, peppers and peas this year. Can you please let me know where you got your mini poly tunnel from. Thanks
Your plans for your new plot sound grea Janet, my mini polytunel is from first tunnels, there is a video on my channel where I build it with my husband, it's so handy I wouldn't be without it. Have a fabulous week 😘
Just curious why onion bulbs are put into cell trays instead of directly in the ground or grow bag 🤔. I haven’t seen anyone in the states do that so far.New gardener here and just wondering 😊
Hello ☺️ it's a great question, I have never grown onions before so it's my first time, when I got advice from other gardeners they said you can start in cells or straight in the ground, the benefit of starting in cell trays is the roots get going so they have a head start when they are planted out 👍🧅 I hope you're having a great weekend ☺️
Hi Gemma. I have a walk through most days with a coffee and do a cat poo pick up ps I don’t own any cats😡. At this stage of the year I pick a day depending on the weather. At the moment I’m building a perimeter foundation for a greenhouse 😍 can’t wait for it happy Christmas to me😂. Ps cabbage 😉
Cabbages 🥬🥬 A Really enjoyable video Gem, I like to watch so that I compare your London plot to my own North Yorkshire garden. I'm always keen to see the variations of flora and fauna, secretly obsessed weather addict. Thanks for sharing, bfn.🐞🌻🌱

@@GemInTheGarden ohhhh ok 😊

Hi Jane 👋 it's gone really cold in London the last few days 🥶 I'm obsessed with the weather too 😅 Hope you've had a great weekend 🥰
