Excellent observation and may I add that The Doctor saw Clara as his equal so them being The Hybrid made sense. It's also why Missy chose Clara for him as "the woman in the shop," who gave her his number. Missy was quite the matchmaker.
"The Hybrid was the Doctor & Clara all along." "I don't like that. 😒" "It's either that or the Hybrid was the Cyber Time Lords." "Woah! The Doctor & Clara are the Hybrid! 😊👍"
I know what the hybrid is. It’s the master. He does everything from the prophecy. He is also cross bred because he is gallifreyan and has part of the doctors dna inside him
Actually with the most recent episode the davros daleks from s9 are the hybrids because of the amount of regeneration energy stolen the daleks are now half Time lord half dalek and they have messed around with time and stood on the ruins of gallifrey
How are two people a hybrid? That’s not a hybrid. Plus why is Clara more important than any other companion? if it’s cause she’s a splinter, then she should’ve died. No if’s ands or buts.
@Mnich why though? Why does the Doctor and the Master need to be something special? Plus the hybrid was Arya Stark considering she was made immortal for literally no reason, and was the last person in the universe, outside of the psychotic killer balls flying around just offscreen
I remember when Jenna announced that she decided to stay on after S8 that a lot of fans were not enthused because they believed Clara was . However, in S9, Jenna really came to character and she put on forth some amazing acting. Her chemistry with Missy was great and she did a good job playing her Zygon counterpart.
@@thefonzkiss Clara wasn't boring at all. She's by far the most well written companion since the revival of the show and I wouldn't be surprised if she's better than all of the Classic era companions too. Jack Harkness and Sarah Jane Smith had to rely on spinoff shows and, in Sarah Jane's case, the nostalgia of starring in Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker's eras to be as interesting as Clara was. Furthermore, Doctor Who had a habit of glossing over the negative traits of every other companion because the writers were worried about scaring people off if they explored them. The problem with this approach is that it can prevent you from really fleshing out your characters. Jack Harkness overcame this in Torchwood because the writers took a MASSIVE risk by showing him sacrifice his own grandson and watch him die a horrible death ONSCREEN but Doctor Who is almost never brave enough to go to an extreme like that. And even when it does, it often backtracks. For example, Steven Moffat had Amy Pond look Madame Kovarian straight in the eye and sadistically MURDER her. That could have been interesting and taken Amy in a much darker direction if Moffat hadn't brushed it under the rug and acted like the murder was no big deal because it took place in an alternate timeline. Compare that sugarcoating to how the Doctor and Danny were constantly criticising Clara for being a liar (which is nowhere near as big a crime as murdering someone I might add) throughout Season 8 and the fact that when Clara reached her lowest point in Dark Water, the Doctor tore into her for it. Clara even made it clear that she would do it again and Doctor Who has never had the guts to show a companion sink so low without pussyfooting around like it did when Amy murdered Kovarian. Without Clara, I wouldn't have stuck around for Season 9 and I doubt I would have even made it through Season 8. Capaldi's Doctor REALLY rubbed me the wrong way in his first season and it's mostly thanks to Clara that I eventually accepted him. They had a very interesting relationship but remember when the Doctor whined "You can't see me" in his first episode? He's talking to the woman who spent millions of lifetimes saving him from the Great Intelligence, often dying in horrifying ways in the process, and getting overlooked almost every time. Or how about the "You betrayed my trust. You betrayed our friendship" lecture after the Doctor abandoned Clara TWICE in Season 8? Did he really expect her to forget about the way he treated her in Kill the Moon? Frankly, Clara was giving him a taste of his own medicine and he had the audacity to lecture her for it. To be clear, I warmed up to Capaldi in Season 9 and I accept his Doctor as canon, unlike Whittaker's botched incarnation, but he was a hypocritical asshole in Series 8. I think people also underestimate how much the Doctor needed Clara, both within the context of the show and in Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman's relationship in real life. Capaldi and Moffat were very fond of Jenna and convinced her to stay for Season 9 because they knew that Doctor Who needed her at the time. They had a story to tell and they needed Clara to finish it. Look at how the show went downhill after she left. Capaldi managed to reach the end of Season 10 with his reputation and legacy intact but aside from Missy's redemption arc, which was Moffat's last burst of true creativity because redeeming the Master was something that most writers wouldn't even attempt, let alone be able to pull off, it was clear that Doctor Who was on its last legs. Moffat managed to wrap it up with the 1st and 13th Doctor's Christmas special (yes, Capaldi's the 13th, not the 12th, because John Hurt's Doctor was the 9th) but he'd clearly run out of steam, so leaving when he did was a wise move.
@@tomnorton4277 you could make a point that Bill also had a very similar moment to amy, if not worse since she literally shot the doctor.... doesnt matter that it was a trick SHE SHOT THE FUCKING DOCTOR! when has a companion ever shot the doctor?
@@gregkava1276 That wasn't intentional on Bill's part though. Amy went out of her way to murder someone whilst being completely aware of what she was doing.
Them being the Hybrid never even crossed my mind. Some people are so desperate to pretend that Chibnall's poorly thought out finale was some work of genius that magically connected a lot of things. It was a really bad episode that created a lot of holes in the story.
Here is what I think: Cybermasters and/or the Master (+ Cyberium) are really the Hybrid. In this video B-WHERE assumes that the "It will unravel the Web of Time" part of the prophecy has something to do with time travel when it's more likely a reference to the actual "Web of Time" from the Classics, and, to quote the TARDIS Data Core wiki article on this subject: "The Web of Time, (TV: Attack of the Cybermen, et al.) also known as the Spiral Politic (PROSE: The Book of the War, et al.) was the orderly structure of the universe's history, built and maintained by the Time Lords." and "Rather than being a necessary fundamental aspect of the universe, the Web of Time was a meta-structure created and imposed on the universe from the Matrix by the Time Lords during the anchoring of the thread, when Rassilon used the Eye of Harmony as "the hitching post of chronology". Before this, the universe had no history or defined set of physical laws. (PROSE: Christmas on a Rational Planet)". "Unraveling the Web of Time" in the context of the Hybrid prophecy could then fit the Master's exploration of the Matrix, and how he dug up a "truth" that had been hidden very deep into the Matrix, where nobody else would have looked. About the "destroy a billion billion hearts to heal its own." part... Well, we've seen how the Master reacted to the "truth". The Master and its army could be the real Hybrid, then. Here is something I wrote elsewhere. I'd like to share my thoughts with people once again: In my opinion, the plan is to make Rassilon the one behind what I would call the "Timeless Child lie". I could see him seeking revenge on the Doctor. He's been exiled in Hell Bent for what he did to the Doctor - first, the thing with the confession dial to summon him, and then the threats when he asked about the Hybrid - because in fact, the whole people of Gallifrey rooted for the Doctor, the hero of the Time War. The Doctor was temporarily appointed President of the Time Lords (again) and my idea since "The Timeless Children" has been that Rassilon might have tampered with the data from the Matrix at some point. Either before his exile or "after", if he did go on exile but then escaped and returned to Gallifrey without anyone noticing. Keep in mind that some parts of the records are more likely to have been forged, and that it's a possibility mentioned in the episode itself - the redacted parts we were not shown. So he might have done just that. Remember that he's not just any President, he's Rassilon. I doubt he would not at least try to remain in control of his future and of his position within Time Lord society. I really see "The Timeless Child" thing as part truth, part Hybrid retcon, with a less conceptual answer to exactly what the legend was about (The Cybermasters, resulting of The Cyberium + The Master alliance, instead of the Clara-Doctor relationship). And in this version of the story, Rassilon would have altered the data in an attempt to use the Master's (predictable) reaction against the Doctor. It would be about destroying Gallifrey and its people to make sure the Doctor wouldn't rule over the planet for too long. (In terms of storytelling, it would also expand upon Rassilon's tendency to mess with the Master, as shown in The End of Time.) This might seem farfetched, but considering that the founders of Time Lord society will certainly be at the center of the plot again now that Tecteun has been introduced as the last of the three alongside Rassilon and Omega, we might just see something like that in the future. Again, it's just my opinion. Entire parts of the Timeless Child storyline might just be deliberately bullshit at this point. What do you think about that? What I personally like about this idea of "The Timeless Child is retcon for the Hybrid" is the fact that, from Rassilon's perspective, he would have created the real Hybrid of the legend as a response to being exiled because of said legend (Had he not wanted to determine what the Doctor knew, he wouldn't have been "betrayed" by his own people, and he wouldn't have lost his position as Lord President) UPDATE: I'd like to add that, to me, the "answer" to exactly what the Hybrid was (from a series 9 perspective) was really good, as The Doctor needed to learn a lesson: that he couldn't possibly go as far as killing his own people and act against Time itself in trying to cancel Clara's death. Having said that, I wouldn't mind a new conclusion to the Hybrid storyline, because, to me, it wouldn't make series 9 ending less meaningful. Clara's death and this whole experience with his people had a lasting impact on the behaviour of Capaldi's Doctor, and that's enough in terms of character development, I think I'm really not a fan of Chibnall's era, and I was really not a fan of the Timeless Child plot twist at first, but it could make sense to some extent. I have issues with the last two series but I'm not here to talk about that right now.
Najawin well I mean in twice upon a time he says the first is already regenerating which is why he looks like David Bradley. I thought that was a nice explanation. But yeah I hope series 11 and 12 are retconned.
Ide like to think that seasons 11 and 12 are all happening in someone's mind and never really happened because of how they rewrite doctor who to be so meaningless with "the timeless child"
@@plasmawarper5837 that would be great if the crab episode wasn't a Christmas special before a couple more seasons of Capaldi. Unless he ran into those crabs again at the end as he was dying or right after he regenerated.
I was very interested in the Doctor and Clara's character arcs when I was watching Series 9, but I didn't care too much about the Hybrid. Everyone was getting excited, thinking it was gonna be some big returning character, but I thought it was just another mystery box arc which I was tired of. On top of that, everything said about it seemed like genetic prophecy tropes I've heard in several other sci-fi/fantasy stories. But once I saw "Hell Bent" I was pleasantly surprised. When the Doctor mocks prophecies by asking "What colour" the Hybrid is and saying "That's the problem with prophecies, they never tell you anything useful," I knew Moffat and I were on the same page. The fact that the Doctor and Clara were the Hybrid was way more satisfying thematically than any other answer he could have given. People saying anything else was the Hybrid are really missing the point.
I totally agree that your interpretation is likely the intended hybrid that Moffat was going for. But half of the fun with prophecies is that there are several ways to interpret prophecies - with that being the case, I think it might be fun to think of the Master (a hybrid between Gallifreyan and Timeless Child) as the hybrid too.
I wasn't a fan of Clara at the time, but now I've really come to appreciate her. After rewatching her episodes several times, I am very fond of her now.
Clara's my favourite companion, with only Jack Harkness coming close. I love that they didn't pussyfoot around the fact that she's a human being and, like any other human being, she has flaws and is capable of doing bad things if she's pushed too far. I think there's a kind of twisted catharsis to her betraying Capaldi in Dark Water because, let's be honest, Capaldi was bordering on Valeyard territory throughout Season 8 and the fact that he treated Clara like trash for most of it certainly didn't help. Just watch Michael Jayston gaslight Colin Baker in Trial of a Time Lord and compare it to all the times Capaldi tried to make Clara feel terrible about herself. She gave him a taste of his own medicine and I for one think he completely deserved it. Even if Danny hadn't died, I think Clara would have had enough of Capaldi's shit eventually. An overlooked detail about Dark Water is the fact that Capaldi was READY for Clara's betrayal. That means one of two things. Either he's INSANELY paranoid about the woman who spent millions of lifetimes saving his ungrateful ass or he was deliberately pushing Clara to the point where she would finally turn on him. Either way, that reflects worse on Capaldi than it does on Clara because after everything she did for him, he STILL treated her like trash and then had the audacity to complain when she decided to hit back. The self-righteous rant that Capaldi went on after the volcano scene descended into outright gaslighting and projection when he told Clara to "stop whining" even though she had not only let him vent without a single complaint, but outright stated that it was "absolutely fair enough" if he kicked her out of the TARDIS for good. To clarify, I'm calling him Capaldi, not the Doctor, because the overrated old coot didn't become a legitimate Doctor in my eyes until Season 9. If they'd managed to get John Hurt to do Season 8, I'm convinced that he would be able to handle the "Am I a good man" arc WITHOUT being a sociopathic misanthrope. Capaldi should have done Day of the Doctor and let Hurt handle the more complex character arc and show him how it's done. If he'd been doing the aftermath of the volcano scene, Hurt would have delivered his lines with quiet disappointment, not self-righteous rage, and the only tweak that would need to be made to the dialogue would be to cut out the "Stop whining" line. Hurt would have handled that scene like a true incarnation of the Doctor. Clara was the heart of the show in Season 8. She saved it from crashing and burning because without her, I would have flipped Capaldi the finger, abandoned the series, and pretended that Doctor Who ended with Matt Smith. To be fair to Capaldi, the Doctor finally returned in Season 9 but by that point I wasn't in a "Yes, the Doctor is back!" state of mind, I was in a "Finally! Where the fuck have you been, Doctor?" state of mind.
@@tomnorton4277 I actually liked the more aloof and alien version of The Doctor in series 8, but each to his own. I certainly think Clara was best with 12. She didn’t become a proper character until series 8.
I love Clara. 12/Clara are my favorite Doctor/Companion Team. I agree with your video. I thought it was obvious that 12 and Clara were the Hybrid. I love that trilogy of episodes: Face the Rave/Heaven Sent/Hell Bent. A perfect exit for Clara.
Hybrid trilogy is my favourite Doctor Who finale of Modern Who. Because when you strip it down its a story about how far would you go to reunite with person you love.
8:16 the Doctor traveled with their granddaughter, and fell in love with Rose and River. I absolutely adored Clara, but her being more important than any other companion is extremely debatable. She was the most important, in the sense of keeping the Doctor alive, but if the Doctor were to choose a favorite companion, I would doubt it be Clara. Again, I do adore her with all of my heart.
I didn't consider Cyberlords being the hybrid, but the Master/Cyberium hybrid being it. The master was trying to fix his broken heart, from a certain point of view.
I dont just think that you are right, but even more, you are forgetting that The Doctor meeting Clara was The Master's plan, Missy, she gave The Doctor's number to Clara because "She is perfect for you", The Master is the oldest and closest frind of The Doctor, and a super intelligemt alien being, even among their own species, she somehow knew that the combination of these two personalities will bring chaos, even if she didn't saw the coming of the Hybrid as part of the plan on purpose, that was a bonus.
races and species are capable of being organic and inorganic, even robots, as long as they are aware of themselves, the series have plenty of examples of that.
It may just be my experience with games like DND and Pathfinder, but I'd argue that Cyberman is a template applied to any race, just most commonly humans.
THANK YOU! FINALLY! People keep groping at anything that could maybe fit into the Hybrid because they completely missed it in the episode! It's insane! Finally somebody else has pointed this out.
The cybermasters stand in the ruins of gallifrey, its two warrior species, the master has the cyberiad inside him. the doctor mocks him saying did killing the timelords heal his rage which is a reference to "breaking a billion hearts to heal [his] own" which was the prophecy of the hybrid. Even more you can see chibnall backtracked on series 9 references like the matrix and implemented them in series 12 so its clear there is a correlation. The only thing left is the web of time being unravelled which nun of the hybrid candidates have done yet but series 13 isnt over i believe the master will. He is the Hybrid or the cause of it atleast.
The hybrid was feared by the timelords , and was composed of the 12th Doctor and Clara. It was already kinda stated in series 9 by ME (Ashildr). So I don't really understand why it's brought back again now...
I thought it was the Master and the Cyberium joined that made the Hybrid; his broken heart healed by killing Gallifrey, unravelling the web of lies etc It’s the only redeeming factor of the episode to me.
I thought it was the master. Killed all the people of gallifrey to heal his own which dodnt work. He was a mix of 2 warrior races. The timelord + cyberman
I still think its really stretching it to make two characters who never actually become one character in any way 'a hybrid', and how the prophecy supposedly plays out in the show is extremely underwhelming. It would be way more satisfying if it turned out the Master was the Hybrid [and Timeless Child, I suppose]
Hey mate thanks for making this video, now I understand on what the Hybrid is. Back then after series 9 was over I didn’t know who or what the Hybrid was. It all makes sense. Thanks 👍
This is a very interesting theory. It seems well reasoned. I absolutely love Clara. I always thought the ideia that she doesn't have character development totally absurd. It's fantastic how her relationship with the Doctor grows and changes and I love the importance that she has for him. And I also love Jenna Coleman performance and how she matures as a actress throughout the series.
I agree with you on that. I guess there’s another evidence Moffat left in the ep Hell Bent. When talking with Ashildr at the end of universe, 12 sneered at her questions at first. However, when Ashildr said the Hybrid was 12 and Clara, and started offering her proofs such as it was Missy who got them together at first to create chaos, 12 never denied that, instead, he changed the subject and talked about wiping off Clara’s memories etc. That for me was almost admitting that they were the hybrid. Btw, big fan of your videos on DW (You’re my favorite DW reviewer on UA-cam) and I wish I could see more of them!
DrewFC 1601 while I liked her the least out of Rose and Amy, she’s still great. Though, I don’t know why, after Amy, Clara having something strange around her made me not be as interested as before.
to be fair, Rose was essentially just a viewer insert, not to say she was a bad character but she didn't have much going for her to make her seem different. Plus her forced romance with the Doctor kinda sucked. So it's not that high of a bar
Would have loved Clara (I like her character evolution, but Victorian Clara was the way to go and they missed it) if they had committed to keeping her dead. Something about undoing her death really bothered me... even if it did lead to the best 2 parter of all time.
@Najawin AAAAHHHH, ok BBC making horrible decisions even back then. That makes sense. Moffat had the right idea. My other thought for S7 Clara was it would have been cool to have her die each episode, but retaining aspects of her personality (and slowly awakening memories of her previous encounters with the Doctor). Each death would cause the doctor to fly off in search of her in another time- until we got to some version of her (fully awakened with all her memories) to jump into the timestream and become the impossible girl. Could have been amazing, but I'm ok with everything we got till S11.
I wonder how the master managed to kill everyone on galafray. There has to have been loads of timelords to kill and surely at the point of death he would have had to kill them again because of their regeneration. It doesn't make sence, it would have made more sence if the master imprisoned the timelords.
Do you not think The Master would nuke them and and have it spew out gas like the poison 11th had on the episode "Let's Kill Hitler" It get's a big radius and kills them in one shot and i suggest you don't use actual punctuation until you spell things right
Actually with the most recent episode the davros daleks from s9 are the hybrids because of the amount of regeneration energy stolen the daleks are now half Time lord half dalek and they have messed around with time and stood on the ruins of gallifrey
I actually also like to thing of standing in the ruins of Gallifrey in the sense that The Doctor also destabilised the aristocracy by banishing the leader and then not assuming such a role for himself.
Hmm, a creature.. ONE creature made of two warrior races, unraveling time to fix it's heart. So this creature is only ONE creature, made from two warriors, and has only ONE heart.
@Najawin Mostly because it was Moffat who was telling them that. Aside from Blink and a few other episodes, his writing has been much maligned over his career in New Who, and for good reason.
@@syweb2 not for good reason, he's my favourite showrunner and started out really strong. Some series were a bit weaker than others but overall, they were great.
B-WHERE recently rewatched capaldis era and it honestly baffles me how people say the writing went to shit, when there’s actual development and the Doctor companion relationship is at its best

Great stuff! You recommended this video to me when I commented on your iceberg video earlier today. The fact that Moffat confirms it sets it in stone, but I still think the cyberlords still make sense as the cyberium did time travel. I concede my point though. Clara was actually my favorite companion, and this was the way I interpreted it before season 12. But I suppose the fact that the Cyber lords actually destroyed gallifrey made me think otherwise. Im really curious what you think about the two theories I have about where doctor who is currently going I mentioned on the other video thread! That being Ruth is actually the Valeyard, and that I think Missy comes after the O Master. Not only does it make more sense from a growth perspective, but the cyber lord stuff could perfectly lead into the dark water tech. As far as ruth being the valeyard. I think thats a brilliant way to resolve the mystery, the valeyard has to happen sometime soon, im honestly surprised it didn't when Capaldi refused to regenerate. I also think the scientist that converted Bill into a cyberman had an uncanny resemblance to the original valeyard actor and I think it'd be brilliant if they somehow tied that character to the ruth/valeyard. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this and will be subscribing and listening to everything you have to say about doctor who
I think both of your theories belong on the same pile as all the other series 12 theories. That pile being the "Damn that's a good way to resolve this horrible mess Chibnal has made" pile. I personally would like for Ruth to be the Master, conspiring with the O Master to trick the Doctor into giving up her future regenerations by fabricating the story of the timeless child. Of course, this plan works just the same if Ruth is the Valeyard too. But I don't think Chibnal has any plans to implement that, I really think he's doubling down on everything he's shown us in series 12, all to be taken at face value. I'd like to be proven wrong.
@@BWHERE even if the timeless child stuff is to be taken at face value, I don't mind that so much. I feel like it does good job of addressing the stuff that they setup in the classic show for "the other" and such. The 7th doctor made comments about being far more than an average time lord, and I even recall an episode where someone recognized him as Merlin and claimed they knew he could regenerate but 7 had no idea what they were talking about. Then of course there's the brain of Morbius already suggesting lives before the first doctor happened. I think he can really tie some of those loose threads from the classic show, as well as even address the whole half human thing from the movie if done cleverly. Who knows what species the doctor was in the alternate universe and how they came across whatever caused them to have the ability to regenerate? Its a clever way to openly address that whole half human thing from the movie and even the age inconsistency such as the 3rd doctor already claiming he's 2000 years old and the first doctor insinuating he invented the Tardis etc. That being said, Ruth could still be the Valeyard. The way I would ultimately love for it to play out is for the meta crisis doctor to snap, somehow regenerates to Ruth, who then regenerates into the valeyard lookalike that converted Bill and is potentially even a recast of that same valeyard similar to how they brought 1 back in twice upon a time. I think the biggest clues to ruth being the valeyard is the fact that the matrix was involved, and the fact that her tardis is also a police box. I also don't see how the Judoon could have possibly breached the Tardis without the help of another tinelord that could benefit from the doctor being in jail. I also think that the master is well and truly being duped by the valeyard as well, and this revelation may cause him and 13 to team up to take ruth down. Also Ruth Doctor? Ruthless Doctor? Its too perfect to be coincidence.
Wait, them being the hybrid flew over people's heads? I knew that, and I've only ever watched season 9 once, it was pretty clearly stated if I remember correctly.
People ask why the Doctor didn't snap with his Daughter, or Rose and I'd say it's because he wasn't at the edge yet. Losing companion after companion gradually pushed him closer to the edge until he lost Clara, at which point he went tumbling.
i would like to point out that me is currently in the midst of 'unraveling the web of time' as she is currently time traveling with clara as a pair of immortals in a tardis disguised as a truckstop cafe, so its premature to wave her off just yet
I know what the hybrid is. It’s the master. He does everything from the prophecy. He is also cross bred because he is gallifreyan and has part of the doctors dna inside him
I would say that it's not the CyberMasters. It's the Master + the Cyberium. Stands in the ruins of Gallifrey- tick. Two warrior races- tick. Unravel the web of time- he looked through the Time Lord Matrix and revealed the past, unraveling the concealed times in the past of the Time Lords. Break a billion billion hearts- the Master killed all of Gallifrey. I think it works. I can accept that it's meant to be the Doctor and Clara. But it's always fun to question what's given.
I thought I was crazy for thinking Clara and the doctor were the hybrid, it crossed my mind and I was like "what, no it couldn't be that". The nightshade is kind of confusing though, since it will hunt down every single version of Clara, which then the doctor would never be saved, and if that happens then Clara would not be hunted by the nightshade maybe???
I think Ashildr was on to something, in saying the hybrid was the joining between Timelord and Human. The only thing I think she got wrong was the companion: not Clara but Donna. Literally, the metacrisis Doctor Donna
It depends on what storyline your going by but if you go by what doctor #8 said, he is half timelord and half human. So yes he has always been the hybrid, Clara just helped influence him to what the timelords didnt want the doctor to become. That was always my thought during the hybrid story arc. Lol
I thought it was The Master, as when he mixed with the Cyberium and stood in the ruins of Gallifrey. He also "Broke a billion hearts" aka the Toclafane. (I hope I spelled it right)
it clearly is something like that but i think the broke a billion hearts to heal his own is fine to say were the timelords as he needed to heal as he was lied to for his whole existence and the part of him is not even him. its the doctor.
I always kind of liked Clara. She may not have been the greatest character, but she was a superb foil, not just some tag-a-long like most 'companions.' I thought it was obvious the first time I saw it play out, and the more I rewatch the show the more concrete it seems. Capaldi's Doctor always makes me the most emotional though. I cry like a little girl just thinking of some of his performances.
I didn't watch any episode since the 12th last ones, but to me, the way the prophecy is worded makes me think of River Song more than any other character. Even if she isn't exactly 'bred from 2 warrior species', she still is the result of Amy's pregnancy being interfered on by both time travel and the silence, so she can be seen as a hybrid of even more than 2 species, all of which are warriors. She stood on the ruins of Gallifrey after the time war, she 'killed' the Doctor and then gave up all her regenerations, and all the hopes that her mom, the silence, the Doctor and the timelords had placed in her, in order to satisfy her own heart by keeping the Doctor alive, and she also has both messed up and then fixed the web of time by first fighting against the fixed point in time and later letting it unfold once she understood that the Doctor had a plan all along (which imo she should have known or at least expected from her husband already but that's another debate). Also I find the concept of the hybrid being two individuals instead of one a bit stretched out, but what do i know ? Anyway, good video :)
I mean if you want to strech it, than it makes more sense for the master to be the hybrid. He is a mix between the time lords and what ever species the timeless child is( which is almost for sure a warrior race) he kill all the timelord to feel better about finding out the truth. And he is a timelord who is always trying to mess with time so there.
I want to correct you. They don't get destroyed by the death particle. They were only introduced in this season, and will be a main threat later on. Chris Chibnall confirmed this in a video, and also when the death particle explodes you can hear the master shouting 'quick! this way!'
I had a thought last night about this and the latest Doctor Who seasons. Peter was absolutely awesome but too dark for some folk. In the past the BBC have stepped in and demanded change. They sacked Philip Hinchcliffe because of the cliffhanger in the Deadly Assassin, and installed Graham Williams with the instruction to tone it down and it became a joke. They took it off air halfway through Colin Baker too because of the violence and they then sacked Colin and made sure Sylvester didn’t go very long before killing it. So I wonder if Chibbers has been told to get as far from the perceived grumpy old man as possible and just dumb it down because Moff made it a little intelligent
For me, the Doctor and Clara were always The Hybrid; however, in comparison with other finales, Hell Bent felt slightly underwhelming. Hell Bent dealt with the Doctor trying to undo Clara's death (which ultimately she was still destined to die,) and the lengths he would go. In comparison with seeing things like planets removed, the dead coming back to life as robots, or parallel dimensions, Hell Bent feels underwhelming at the surface. If anything, after potentially teasing Ashildir/Me and Jack Harkness and/or the possibility of various people throughout time as the creating of Hybrids, a discussion at the end does not feel as intriguing at first. But as you mentioned of the lengths the Doctor went through and he and Clara inadvertently became The Hybrid is what makes it impactful.
Rewatching season 9 actually makes it better- tbh after I rewatched the whole finale again I liked Hell Bent more than Heaven Sent (which obviously epic). While most of the other finales were relatively more plot-driven, Hell Bent was more about the characters (Mainly the Doctor and Clara). If you go in prepared for that, it'll be much better than the first watch imo
Just an idea if the timeless child is cannon it’s possible that Asheild or Clara maybe some sort of amalgamation of both of them became the the timeless child teqtun ( or what ever it’s spelled )found her under a temporal vortex
I would liked it more if they at least pulled some science fantasy magic to show they were the hybrid with all the special effects, instead of a thowaway line.
Clara was my favorite companion of nuwho... I'm not sure why... it may be because she was in away the Doctor Clara. I did like the Doctor Donna, for example, but her time was short lived. In a way, for me, the Doctor Clara makes up for the loss of the Doctor Donna. Still wish we got to see more of the Doctor Donna.
Yes I always knew the Doc + Clara were the Hybrid. Wasn't that part of the reason the Doc insisted on memory-wiping Clara (which rebounded on himself) - because the combination of the two of them was too dangerous. And - as B-WHERE says - Clara spread herself throughout his timeline to save him, and the Doc went through Heaven Sent to save her. (And I'm biassed, I love Clara, and Moff's writing, and besides I don't care for Chibnall's retconning)

I always thought the hybrid was the doctor even though technically s/he's the only pure bred time lord and I'm pretty sure you could say the doctor and any companion is the hybrid the doctor could be and is dangerous when ever he lets his rules go s/he's immortal also the thing with the great intelligence never happened because the doctor regenerated on trenzalore instead of dying so it's a plothole I guess Edit:the doctor can open the TARDIS without its keys it's sentient and it's sentimental not like at will but the TARDIS can open it's own doors which it has without the keys
1)Doctor Donna = Human Timelord is cannon hybrid before all this. 2)When did a race that only seeks to upgrade the organic into the perfect machine become a warrior race? They use force but their goal is not that of beings in a war. 3) Am just confused by all this shit anymore
I misspoke when recording - the 12th Doctor actually says "Hate is always foolish, and love is always wise."

How does two separate people equate to a hybrid? The 10.5 clone Sec and River are better examples of a hybrid
Excellent observation and may I add that The Doctor saw Clara as his equal so them being The Hybrid made sense. It's also why Missy chose Clara for him as "the woman in the shop," who gave her his number. Missy was quite the matchmaker.
Great point!
I think the hybrid was a great arc, as we never found out what it was, it was just something the dr used to save clara.
"The Hybrid was the Doctor & Clara all along."
"I don't like that. 😒"
"It's either that or the Hybrid was the Cyber Time Lords."
"Woah! The Doctor & Clara are the Hybrid! 😊👍"
The Cyber Time Lords are just Cybermen with TimeLord corpies in them.
TonyP0927 She was fine, her character just was boring as hell. She should have left two years before.
@@thefonzkiss You want boring? Try Ryan and Yaz.
Yep.
Technically you can blame Hinchcliffe and the brain of Morbius for the whole timeless child arc.
www.fandom.com/articles/doctor-who-plot-hole-resolved
Here is what I think: Cybermasters and/or the Master (+ Cyberium) are really the Hybrid.
In this video B-WHERE assumes that the "It will unravel the Web of Time" part of the prophecy has something to do with time travel when it's more likely a reference to the actual "Web of Time" from the Classics, and, to quote the TARDIS Data Core wiki article on this subject:
"The Web of Time, (TV: Attack of the Cybermen, et al.) also known as the Spiral Politic (PROSE: The Book of the War, et al.) was the orderly structure of the universe's history, built and maintained by the Time Lords." and "Rather than being a necessary fundamental aspect of the universe, the Web of Time was a meta-structure created and imposed on the universe from the Matrix by the Time Lords during the anchoring of the thread, when Rassilon used the Eye of Harmony as "the hitching post of chronology".
I'd like to share my thoughts with people once again:
In my opinion, the plan is to make Rassilon the one behind what I would call the "Timeless Child lie".
(In terms of storytelling, it would also expand upon Rassilon's tendency to mess with the Master, as shown in The End of Time.)
This might seem farfetched, but considering that the founders of Time Lord society will certainly be at the center of the plot again now that Tecteun has been introduced as the last of the three alongside Rassilon and Omega, we might just see something like that in the future. Again, it's just my opinion.
Entire parts of the Timeless Child storyline might just be deliberately bullshit at this point. What do you think about that?
What I personally like about this idea of "The Timeless Child is retcon for the Hybrid" is the fact that, from Rassilon's perspective, he would have created the real Hybrid of the legend as a response to being exiled because of said legend (Had he not wanted to determine what the Doctor knew, he wouldn't have been "betrayed" by his own people, and he wouldn't have lost his position as Lord President)
UPDATE: I'd like to add that, to me, the "answer" to exactly what the Hybrid was (from a series 9 perspective) was really good, as The Doctor needed to learn a lesson: that he couldn't possibly go as far as killing his own people and act against Time itself in trying to cancel Clara's death. Having said that, I wouldn't mind a new conclusion to the Hybrid storyline, because, to me, it wouldn't make series 9 ending less meaningful.
Clara's death and this whole experience with his people had a lasting impact on the behaviour of Capaldi's Doctor, and that's enough in terms of character development, I think
I'm really not a fan of Chibnall's era, and I was really not a fan of the Timeless Child plot twist at first, but it could make sense to some extent. I have issues with the last two series but I'm not here to talk about that right now.
@@nathanmurdoch5253 yeah but that was already fixed- It's been retconned that those are Morbias' past faces

Ide like to think that seasons 11 and 12 are all happening in someone's mind and never really happened because of how they rewrite doctor who to be so meaningless with "the timeless child"
Remember the Brain crab episode? The doctor never woke up from it.
People saying anything else was the Hybrid are really missing the point.
still, it wasn't a very well done metaphor and i don't think they established it well enough.
@@galarstar052 i think they established it perfectly. just like prophecies are, you can't really be sure about them.

After rewatching her episodes several times, I am very fond of her now.
a puddle has better character arc than jodie's doctor

Totally!
The master was trying to fix his broken heart, from a certain point of view.
chibs is the hybrid, he didn't just destroy galifrey and 60 years of history he broke all the fans hearts with this woke tripe
Dr Who was always woke. This isn’t bad because it’s woke, it’s bad because it’s just bad.
Since when has Doctor Who been woke. Even if it has this season has been beyond woke. Chibs is killing Doctor Who
@@d.b.studios wrong chibnall already killed Doctor Who with season 12 finale.
I dunno if I'd call the Cyberman a "Race" tbh
That's actually a really good point
They're mondasians to be technical.
Unless they convert aliens such as humans.
races and species are capable of being organic and inorganic, even robots, as long as they are aware of themselves, the series have plenty of examples of that.
@@BWHERE yeah they aren’t really a race unless you are talking about mondas but it’s more of a corruption type thing
Thankyou for finally taking out the broken paint drop image transition :D Great vid, keep up the good work!
The hybrid was feared by the timelords , and was composed of the 12th Doctor and Clara. It was already kinda stated in series 9 by ME (Ashildr). So I don't really understand why it's brought back again now...
the Doctor's true rival: Christmas
and Chibnall killed it
I thought it was the Master and the Cyberium joined that made the Hybrid; his broken heart healed by killing Gallifrey, unravelling the web of lies etc
It’s the only redeeming factor of the episode to me.
I thought it was the master. Killed all the people of gallifrey to heal his own which dodnt work. He was a mix of 2 warrior races. The timelord + cyberman
I loved Clara, AND wish she'd left after series 8. Last Christmas would have been such a beautiful, bittersweet ending for her character.
I still think its really stretching it to make two characters who never actually become one character in any way 'a hybrid', and how the prophecy supposedly plays out in the show is extremely underwhelming.
It would be way more satisfying if it turned out the Master was the Hybrid [and Timeless Child, I suppose]
That was Moffatt's plan all along the Hybrid was both The Doctor and Clara. It was Me who theorized it in Hell Bent.
Hey mate thanks for making this video, now I understand on what the Hybrid is. Back then after series 9 was over I didn’t know who or what the Hybrid was.
It all makes sense. Thanks 👍
My pleasure!

Pian-0 G the Amy and Rory are my favorite companions, Clara is a close second.
to be fair, Rose was essentially just a viewer insert, not to say she was a bad character but she didn't have much going for her to make her seem different. Plus her forced romance with the Doctor kinda sucked. So it's not that high of a bar
Thank you! I love Hell Bent I’m sick of people hating on it.
"YOU MISSED THE PART WHERE THE MASTER SAYS YOU TWO QUICK GET IN HERE!!!!"
I wonder how the master managed to kill everyone on galafray. There has to have been loads of timelords to kill and surely at the point of death he would have had to kill them again because of their regeneration. It doesn't make sence, it would have made more sence if the master imprisoned the timelords.
Do you not think The Master would nuke them and and have it spew out gas like the poison 11th had on the episode "Let's Kill Hitler" It get's a big radius and kills them in one shot
and i suggest you don't use actual punctuation until you spell things right

I feel like it does good job of addressing the stuff that they setup in the classic show for
"the other" and such.

@@BWHERE watching now! I really respect that you actually engage with your audience. Even someone like me that only discovered you today.
3:00 wtf did the 13 doctor just re cycle stuff that was all ready cover up .
I do hope and belive they are, but it's a super interesting discussion to have.
Wait, them being the hybrid flew over people's heads? I knew that, and I've only ever watched season 9 once, it was pretty clearly stated if I remember correctly.
Yea it was
Well yeah, hopefully the cyber time lords aren’t even canon
wouldn't donna or the doctor left with rose by the hybrid? would be an interesting way to bring em back
Great video.
Thanks!
He is also cross bred because he is gallifreyan and has part of the doctors dna inside him
correct
I would say that it's not the CyberMasters. It's the Master + the Cyberium. Stands in the ruins of Gallifrey- tick. Two warrior races- tick. Unravel the web of time- he looked through the Time Lord Matrix and revealed the past, unraveling the concealed times in the past of the Time Lords. Break a billion billion hearts- the Master killed all of Gallifrey. I think it works. I can accept that it's meant to be the Doctor and Clara. But it's always fun to question what's given.
Clara was my all time favourite companion. I think Jenna did an amazing job and I'm looking forward to seeing her again
Doctor retroactively dies at Trensalore...she was never in his timestream (which makes you wonder how the Doctor ended up with the TARDIS.
"web of time" could mean the master reffering to the matrix and traveling to find the timeless child
I really think they are, there's alot of discussion to be had though.
I love Clara she was my favorite companion and I think she was a bright spot.
Clara overstayed her welcome, as soon as she started being a complete control freak she had to go
Human and Time Lord, as too breaks billions upon billions of hearts, 13 is the Hybrid
I feel sorry for Sacha Dhawan. I love his master. Such a good actor put to shit.
I'm surprised that this is even in contention. The Hybrid reveal was dumb, but it was spelled out pretty thoroughly.
The Master/missie: I like robot people
I always kind of liked Clara. She may not have been the greatest character, but she was a superb foil, not just some tag-a-long like most 'companions.'
I thought it was obvious the first time I saw it play out, and the more I rewatch the show the more concrete it seems.
Capaldi's Doctor always makes me the most emotional though. I cry like a little girl just thinking of some of his performances.
The hybrid was inside us all along
Good point but River never set foot on Gallifrey so no. She is technically a hybrid but not The Hybrid of the prophecy.
I mean if you want to strech it, than it makes more sense for the master to be the hybrid.
He is a mix between the time lords and what ever species the timeless child is( which is almost for sure a warrior race) he kill all the timelord to feel better about finding out the truth.
And he is a timelord who is always trying to mess with time so there.
if you like this vid, u check out the "toxic love"video essay. she really elaborates so well on this relationship
As usual, you make sense.
I thought the prophecy referred to the Master
Remember when people hated Moffat's writing?
Ashilde could still unravel time...so could DoctorDonna and Metacrisis Doctor. My kid was betting on River till Sasha killed off the Timelords.
Surely if anything was a hybrid it’d be the Time Lords seeing as they’ve got Doctor DNA in them.
I call them “cyber lords”. IMO it sounds great!
I want to correct you. They don't get destroyed by the death particle. They were only introduced in this season, and will be a main threat later on. Chris Chibnall confirmed this in a video, and also when the death particle explodes you can hear the master shouting 'quick! this way!'
The master is totally and definitely the hybrid
Wait if the doctor has 2 hearts and is the original timelord, why do hybrid timelords have two hearts? (they are hybrid)
Obviously time lord Gene's are the most dominant.
Just an idea if the timeless child is cannon it’s possible that Asheild or Clara maybe some sort of amalgamation of both of them became the the timeless child teqtun ( or what ever it’s spelled )found her under a temporal vortex
can i start a comment thread where bringing his grandaughter back was a missed opportunity?
I would liked it more if they at least pulled some science fantasy magic to show they were the hybrid with all the special effects, instead of a thowaway line.
You’re a goddam genius.
Thank you!

I always thought the hybrid was the doctor even though technically s/he's the only pure bred time lord and I'm pretty sure you could say the doctor and any companion is the hybrid the doctor could be and is dangerous when ever he lets his rules go s/he's immortal also the thing with the great intelligence never happened because the doctor regenerated on trenzalore instead of dying so it's a plothole I guess
Edit:the doctor can open the TARDIS without its keys it's sentient and it's sentimental not like at will but the TARDIS can open it's own doors which it has without the keys
Its cute that we think that the hybrid will ever matter again
Didn't the Doctor (with Human DNA from Donna) go further than the original was willing? Him and Donna should have gotten their return
1)Doctor Donna = Human Timelord is cannon hybrid before all this.
2)When did a race that only seeks to upgrade the organic into the perfect machine become a warrior race? They use force but their goal is not that of beings in a war.
3) Am just confused by all this shit anymore
