Fr Daniel Reehil - A Wall Street banker who became a Catholic priest

  • Enjoying the lifestyle of a successful banker on Wall Street, Daniel was renting a house in Amalfi, Italy for the summer. When a friend expressed a desire to visit Medjugorje, a place of Our Lady’s apparitions just across the Adriatic Sea, Daniel decided to accompany her. Despite the privileges and luxuries of his job, Daniel had, over the years, become very unhappy. He had started having nightmares which ultimately lead to months long insomnia. After a full nights sleep in Medjugorje Daniel woke up with a tremendous sense of goodness. He says the word peace is not enough to describe the feeling he had. That day he sought out a preist who would hear his confession after 20 years way from the Catholic Church. In this Fruits of Medjugorje video, Fr Daniel gives his testimony of conversion and his journey to priesthood. #testimonies #fruitsofmedjugorje #medjugorje #testimony

    I was raised Mormon. By mid-teens, I stopped attending. Up until 2019 no thought of going to church, but always kept thoughts of my Lord Jesus. I had a few angry explosions where I yelled at God (smh) & when calmed down, apologized greatly. He' my God. The last quarter of 2019 with a coworker, I started asking questions, as she was Catholic. I got curious and went to see the beautiful St John's Cathedral in Boise. And my Lord welcomed me. I was there for the architecture - or so I thought. Every time I tried to leave, something would catch my eye and I'd remain a few minutes more. Then it dawned on me as I saw people, that there was a Mass coming up, so I sat down. Jesus kept me there, to watch in complete awe the beauty of the Mass. I began crying at the Holy Sacrament, my heart breaking as the priest broke the bread and said 'Take this, all of you...' I became a Catholic Easter 2021. And now pray for my son' conversion, his children and my mother, sisters, & brother. It's been amazing. The anger I lashed out to God no longer is there. I get angry, but it's followed with His quiet touch to breathe and give Him the problem. He can handle it better than I can or ever could.

      I am very much like you my friend. I was raised a JW but stopped attending at 16 as I believe a lot of young JWs do. I love the JWs and have never resented them even tho a few of my family do. Now I am 45 and realise I need to get back as you know when you have found something honest, pure and clean. I respect anything related to the big man. Really interesting video this and I want to understand all aspects of religion, good and bad. ❤️😊

Praise God for carrying us through those moments of experiencing darkness pushing in on us. He allows it for a reason I’m sure - it’s for the sake of our conversion, and sometimes he has to show us “where we are” spiritually, and the places where we still need to invite Jesus in, in order to make us desire greater holiness and faith. 🙏 I will pray for your continuing faith journey!

I’m often moved to tears during Mass as I bring my failures and sadness, my wayward children, my frustrations and anger with the world as it is now, and all my “unanswered prayers” and impatience to the altar and the foot of the cross. I first heard about Fr Dan Reehil during an interview wirh Michael Knowles (shared by a cousin) and what he shared then was really quite interesting but I didn't know there was so much more to his conversion story, which was more interesting than about him being an exorcist. There were so many takeaways from this. Indeed, there is depth in it, and you see how God loves and calls each one personally. And how our Lady intervenes and how God uses priests as instruments for His Purpose, how He draws good out of bad experiences. .I wanted to listen more..I felt like this ended so quickly! 2 days ago, 28-Dec- 2022, I watched this video for the first time. Nothing 'blowing-away' or 'phenomenal' about it - which is probably the reason why it was so effective. Anyway, because of (nothing particular in) Fr.'s story, I decided to visit my local shrine to the Holy Mother after nearly two decades. Again, nothing phenomenal about my visit today - other than that I finally got myself my first scapular - but it did feel like a start; and of many things, praise God! I can understand how wrenching it must've been for Fr. to confront the environment in which the unthinkable happened to him... but it's miraculous that the unthinkable happens again when he not only fully returns to that environment but goes on to humbly serve it. (TAKE THAT you post-scandal Church-haters! Glory to our Father in Heaven!) Thank you Mother of Medjugorje for drawing me to you through this story and for the graces bestowed on me today at your shrine. I also thank the Holy Family (not least our beloved Papa Joseph, to whom I am especially devoted) in advance for all my intentions. I know You will all intervene in our lives, amen! And thank you Fr. Like somebody posted before, we carry Jesus in our hearts, and his and his Mother's love has been revealed to me in the most unexpected places and circumstances of daily life.
    The fact that you were able to be receive formation in contemplative prayer is a huge blessing. I have been listening to presentations by Basil Pennington, William Meninger and Thomas Keating and trying to practice centering prayer.

    Dearest Fr. Daniel, when heard the words "I think you have a vocation to be a priest", I laughed n laughed but not at you... but of me! Oh, the Lord has a wonderful sense of humour! When I was 18 yrs old at school, my friend said to me that they always thought I would be a nun. I replied, 'what? NAH?' B ut inwardly felt it to be a truth n then at age 46 I became a consecrated diocesan hermit! Goes to show, God definitely has a wonderful sense of humour! Love Him every second of the day please everyone. I can identify with you Fr. Daniel! God bless you n all.

      Never heard of a consecrated diocesan hermit. If you're truly happy and at peace with your vocation, I'm glad for you.
      I have a life-long enmity with God. I also have quite a bit of unconfessed mortal sins. Life has always weighed heavily on me. I have a whole litany of unanswered prayers. For everyone involved (I'm not a good person), including myself, it'd be better if I wasn't around. Would God honor a sincere prayer to cut my life short? I'm not getting better with time, I'm getting more angry, more selfish, more resolved to do things my way. I know I can't reconcile with God because life has a 1000 ways to hit me, get me down, reactivate deep-seated wounds. I can't do life, period. Does God honor prayers like that, or am I on my own in that aspect as well?

      @@phoenixaz8431 Dear Pheonix, if you only knew how many times i am fed up with my life! Even at this moment. I have had a rotten life... actually, its starting now... spent 53 years caring for my parents. Am an only child. Now my dad has gone, i feel lost n yet, i know i have to hang onto God. Your anger is the hurt you feel inside. I lived through domestic violence n narc dad. But God sustainef me in my darkest moments. He is with you. Please believe me. I found Him at age 6... looking up at the mountains on my grandparents meadow near italian alps on my first visit there. I find Him in nature, in the little things. When you think He doesnt answer your prayer, He has. You are asking for your destruction, but He is answering you by giving you life... i know, because i asked for same in my darkest moments. When you see a cloudy day, remember the sun is shining above the clouds. This life is hard, but please, forgive yourself. If you take the first step towards Him, He will open His arms to you. But He cant do it unless you open yourself up first. I was full of mortal sins too, but it didnt stop me from seeking Him. Try, try and take the first step and be ready for how loving and merciful He is. Start little, dont worry about setbacks, try. My dad was a narcissist but in the end... he came round and i now miss terribly the one who hated me most. I will pray for you with all my heart. Sr. C

      @@carolpreved6055 Sr. Carol, something is going on spiritually these days. I have written God off because he wouldn't heal me, fix my life how I wanted to be healed, it to be fixed. I listen to sermons/preaching online, often it's as if I was listening to my autobiography!
      Rejection is my primary wound. i've never been able to reconcile hearing that God loves me with the idea that he would snatch me out of the peace of nonexistence for a brutal life. Growing up, I mostly assumed God was on my side, waiting for the opportune time to come through and set my life on a different trajectory. God is omnipotent, so helping me comes at zero cost for him. It's very hard to go to God for help now, because I see him as the ultimate source/author of my misery. Thank you for taking the time to read my lamentation, and for your prayers for me. I've been prayed for before, but it's the 1st time someone has added 'with all my heart'.

    • @carolpreved6055
      @carolpreved6055 Рік тому +1

      @@phoenixaz8431 Dearest Pheonix, guess what my wound also is and was, and i will tell why now 'was'? Rejection!!! Just like you. 58 yrs worth. The author of that wound was my dad from day 1. He dragged mum to have me aborted. I need not tell you that he rejected to know me, anything i did etc. Its a horrible way to live and really you end up hating yourself and rejecting yourself. And it affects your life with others. Plus... my mother kept me almost locked up... i wasnt even permitted to go and buy milk at age 41 on my own and it was only up the street. I was her carer but also her body guard. I couldnt even go in our backyard, or laugh etc. We lived in terror 24/7. 'Was' because, a few weeks before dad died, seeing that he was slipping away, i asked my parish priest to give me a minor exorcism to break the curse of abortion which was my root cause of rejection. He agreed. It only took a few minutes. I left, and didnt feel any different and thought oh well... but, by the time i got to the end of the street in my car.. i suddenly began to feel different spiritually. Like something being lifted out of me. Well, it was rejection and all the hurts suffered. I felt free. My dad afterwards would say nasty things anyway but they no longer hurt me whereas before i would cry. Then, to really break the tie, I had him exorcised a week or so before he died. I felt rejected by God too though I loved Him and became a hermit. But once this minor exorcism was done, I no longer felt that. It healed me. But dear Pheonix, we have to take the first step in love, humility and trust towards Him from the heart. He is not the author of our miseries. Someone else is. Remember, Jesus dies a horrific death... He suffered. I saw years of illness, hunger, poverty, brutality, blood of my mum coming out and going through a dialysis machine etc. I wanted to commit suicide too. At the moment I am stressed as well and keep thinking what my purpose of living now that I have no one to care for. But I have a childhood dream... to go and live in the mountains. Suddenly, this is something I can do but am afraid. For the first time, the cage door is open, but the bird inside, standing on the perch is afraid to fly out. It needs courage. Hang on Pheonix. Please do not give up. Its so easy to. When we hang on to God through rejections etc it makes us stronger though we dont feel it. I am a broken person but I hang on. I dont expect God to fix me. Yes, I am confused when He doesnt help me know where or what I need to do. I spent nearly 59 years waiting for my dream. I have to start life now instead of in my 20s like everyone and alone. I can sense your hurt. Try if only you want, to have a minor exorcism as I did. It takes 5 mins. Its a simple prayer. Go to confession first. Thats the most powerful. Or just find a good holy priest to talk to. That, isnt easy these days to find. I will continue to pray for you. I really want the best for you. I want you free. Take care dear Pheonix and yes I say it with all my heart. Because i felt my love for my dad rejected by him and thats a painful wound. Hang on!

      @@carolpreved6055 In today's christianity, you hear everything and its opposite. The prosperity preachers think any kind of illness, hardship, financial strain needs to be rebuked. Others think we'll have to wait for our resurrection for God to wipe our tears and make us whole.
      I went to a (Catholic) charismatic retreat years ago. I had been prayed over abundantly, and it seemd that my conception was not from a consensual, loving act. My father was at the worst of his alcoholism when my mother was pregnant with me. Never had confirmation from my mother, nor is it something that I'd feel at ease bringing up with her. She did tell me, however, that due to my father's alcohol problem, lack of support, aloofness, and the fact that my older brother came down with a contagious disease possibly harmful to the fetus (me), that my mother wished she'd miscarry. Did that set me up for rejection, or was being raised by an angry, volatile, unhinged father enough to make me a fertile soil for emotional wounds. One of the ladies at the retreat who were responsible for me told me that she had a mental image of a young child whose body was partially *in* the floor from being domineered by and terrified of my father. I went there with an open heart, but I shut down during the retreat. Some of the stuff going on, I wasn't comfortable with. Every day, there was a different theme. One day, it was occult ties. The two ladies prayed over me, I remember wanting to open myself as much as possible, they said I had ties to the occult. The priest came a few minutes later, prayed over me, and said I had no ties to the occult. I'm very analytical and overthinking everything. That made me doubt the whole thing.
      Protestant preachers often speak of generational curses, adn I think that's biblically sound. Esp. on my father's side, it's a very troubled line, with despair, suicide, mental illness problems, alcoholism, incest etc., I like the romantic idea of a new born baby being a clean slate, but it's far from reality.
      Enough about me. I"m sorry to hear about the predicament that you've found yourself in. I can also understand that new-found freedom can be fear-inducing. What would living as a hermit on a mountain be like? Does it have to be a hermitage linked to a religious community? Are there hermits (or saints) in the history of the Church that you feel particularly drawn to?
