I'm super impressed! Really really really love how you incorporated the timeline "graphic" into this video. Pretty dang spot on in terms of how I pace out and edit my videos. Well done my friend! And I so appreciate you being a patron :)
Bro! This was insanely great production. I just subscribed! The fact that you focused on making this such quality work, really made an impression on me. I cannot believe this didn't hit a million views yet, let alone a 100k. You beautifully captured one of our favorite creator's process!
It’s interesting how the concept of breathing room is a common theme found throughout various disciplines, we have it in photography (negative space), audio mastering (headroom ), large format lens resolution, and so on. It’s a concept we also find in music composition . Less is more! But man, tying all that shit together into a cohesive work of art is where genius lies, especially with something as complex as filmmaking where there’s so much stuff going on . MIND. BLOWN.
I've probably watched this video like, a hundred times already. Hands-down the best "Behind the Edit" video on Matt I've seen, and I'm pretty sure I've seen 'em all. Surprised this video hasn't blown up by now, honestly.
This is just phenomenal. Filming quality, the concept behind how you demonstrated it, the music... I was about to say that this video is going to blow up then realized it was posted almost a year ago?! The almighty algorithm has failed us all.
All I can say is: the more awesome people like you come on, the more we can get it to pop eventually 😎 Working on new creator deep dives so let’s hope the algorithm gods are with us ✌🏻 Thanks Miguel, love the feedback 🙌🏻
This is like a UA-cam masterclass. Amazing way, thanks for dissecting this! Is nice to really know how to balance entertainment and content in a story!
Thanks Fernando! I know right? All the little insights you get out of a session like this are just insane. He clearly is a very skilled & passionate storyteller, that much is true haha 😄 & happy to have brought some value to you as well 🙌🏻
What a great breakdown. I've not considered the structure of a video like that before, it's too easy to think that these great videos spontaneously appear without effort. This deep dive was really useful - thanks!
Wow, you are such an editing inspiration yourself! I am soo impressed and excited to see more from you. You appreciate the art like a true artist and that is really beautiful to watch :)
Such a great video! It just appeared on my timeline. I joined Matt's masterclass a few days ago and I've also been geeking out over how to make amazing videos like him. Thanks for pointing out his unique style :-)
So cool! And, did it help you out now we're a bit further? I signed up after making this video as well, I think I need to make an updated version haha 😅
I came here to learn about Matt D'Avella film making, but I'm pleasantly surprised by YOUR video making skill. I'm getting a Casey Neistat vibe but calm like Matt D'Avella! This video is definitely worth STUDYING. I'll come back later to digest it all. Good job! I know absolutely nothing about film making nor editing, but I'm learning one by one.
For some reason YT is flagging comments on this video as spam and I'm just finding them back 😅 And damn, what an honour to hear those 2 names in one sentence! So stoked you're getting into filmmaking. Everyone starts at zero, 5 years ago I was still just a marine biologist with a gopro. Dedication and having fun is the key I think 😄 Good luck you!!!
Tom's Odyssey You know you can try as much as possible but still won’t come out as well! That’s the beauty of being uniquely you!!! Keep crushing it man!
well I really would compliment you not what you explain but on your video. The storytelling, the b-roll etc. Everything was perfect! (of course you explain everything you did but hell you hold me up to the very last minute). Then ... I saw Matts comment...... you dont need more compliments than that! Amazing. Subscribing. Thank you
Wow, thanks! People like you are what makes it worth all the time spend on videos like these! All I can say is welcome to the fam! What's your name? I'll be on the lookout the next videos 😄
I'm gonna be honest here, the reason this video didn't blow up as other comments say it should have is because of all the film style interludes. It's not that you don't make good shots, or that your grading doesn't look cool etc. It's just that people are too on the run, and they don't really want so much breaks during educational videos. I understand the purpose might be to have storytelling to make it more engaging, but it's just not working that way. Honestly I just rather have the "meat" of the content, a 5 minute video of the actual lesson. Sure you can have cuts to the coffee and such but I think they need to be shorter and with a different pace. The actual things you say about Matt are great, and you present them in a great way.
This was great! Honestly, you just saved me SO MUCH time. Your deep dive into his videos is exactly what I wanted to do. Thank you! I'll go ahead and sub too :)
That’s not a quick question 🥲 They are two completely different calibers haha! Casey is consistent high volume high quality, Matt is refined purity 👌🏻 If I have to give one judgment I’d say Casey is the more allround filmmaker with enormous insight into everyday stories, whereas Matt is the more cinematic youtube documentary filmmaker? 😅 I’d say, watch them both if you need some inspiration haha! Btw, thanks for coming back Vincent 🤜🏻🔥🤛🏻
Awesome! Thank you! These guys are sooo good, there's just soooo much to learn from 😃 And wish you all the luck on your journey! It's hard, but patience will be rewarded 😎
WOW!! Bravo Tom! That was awesome! Definitely into more videos like that. I think I speak on behalf of all your subs when I say we appreciate the work you put into that video.

So everyone, who’s next? 🙏🏻
I agree with everything he said!
Matt D. Avella. He is a decendent of the D. - One Piece.

Matt D'Avella is the only youtuber that makes me watch his entire content without skip. Now you are one of them too. Thanks for the great video Tom
Wow, thanks! Glad to even be a bit comparable than the grandmeister haha. Thank you for taking the time to check it out Murilo! 🙌🏻
Awesome work bro!!

Casey
