    Great video! I don’t think the nervousness of travelling solo is just a woman thing. I did my first solo motorbike tour round the NC500 as a mate pulled out at the last minute, for me the scary bit was whether I could stand my own company (not a safety concern) and absolutely loved it - ever since I’ve just toured on my own as it was a revelation - you can just do everything at your own pace and how you like it. Plus as a biker you will always find friends on your trip.

    I've just finished editing my first solo wild camp and I absolutely loved every second of it. It's not just women that get anxious about stuff like that. I was properly nervous about my little one night adventure but once I saw how beautiful it was that faded away.

    I got my first motorcycle a month ago. Bought a 125ccm vespa last year spring, saw how much fun is it, decided to made the motorcycle licence last fall. And this after 15 years of car driving only. How did i miss the fun so many years. Damn. Well better late than never, so here i am, first season on a real bike, next week i am doing the 1000km service. Got so much energy, already planned out some routes, can't await for it to begin. Never thought of wild camping, so i guess i put that on my bucket list. Glad youtube brought me here. GL HF.

    Remember when I told you clean your bike? When you do, you get up close to it and see if there is any damage or broken parts. When I told you to learn about suspension damping and preload, that's because all the weight on the back lifts the front up. It also puts weight on the subframe (the frame under the seat) it can crack and break. As the weight on the back goes down, the rake angle of the forks goes longer slowing the steering down which make you go wide on corners.
    Its so nice to see some one loving riding there bike and having an adventure. Your a very intelligent person and should be proud of yourself doing these things. Was that a Star wars t-shirt? lol

    Another great adventure. Just a quick tip Saffy, don’t run the gas burner inside the tent, it’s not just the fire risk but Carbon Monoxide builds up, you will not know it is there, it makes you sleepy then unconscious, you keep breathing it in once asleep and no oxygen gets to your brain. You could be dead within 20 mins, it has happened to campers before. Should be ok if well vented, I.e. both ends of the tent unzipped but always better off outside. Be careful, I need your videos to keep me entertained on Sunday evenings 😁

    Best advice I can give is to load the bike up a week before departure & go for a properly long ride… country roads there and motorways back to simulate all conditions. If anything’s wrong with your bike or kit it will show up then and you’ll have a week to fix it.
    Brakes… you should always test the brakes first thing each day right after setting off - within the first 100 yards ideally - first gently break & come to a stop, then set off again and brake hard, test the fronts, then test the rears. This proves the brakes are working & ready to use.
    For a Proper brake check (done daily or weekly); pull hard to check function by pushing the bike against the brakes, then check the hoses are immaculate and not damage or rubbing on anything, check bolts holding the hoses to the various parts aren’t leaking, inspect the pads and check the thickness is in spec (just from the back is fine, there is always a wear channel that should be visible), the check the brake lights come on, and lastly spin the wheel to make sure the disks are straight. Repeat for the rear brake. The whole process takes less than a minute

    • @SaffySprocket
      @SaffySprocket  2 роки тому

      Ah yes, but that advice requires two bits of critical bit of information, remembering to do it and being organised, neither of which I possess 🤣🤣🤣

    Well done for coping with and sorting the brake problem. Even old hands get unexpected problems like that. In 2016 on my second day of a 2 and a half week trip, my front brake went spongy, and within a few miles failed. It had a tiny fluid leak that I had not been able to see. It was a Sunday in a sparsely populated area of Aragón in Spain. I went about 40 miles before eventually finding a petrol station that had brake fluid available. That was a temporary solution, that worked for the rest of the holiday (about 2,800 kms). Fitted a new master cylinder when I got home. At that time I had been a biker for 45 years, and owned that bike for 10 years. The bike was 29 years old. Still got the bike. Currently trying to make plans for a big trip this summer. Not sure where yet. Maybe Scotland (I live in the very south of Spain).

      Ah yes! This is such a common issue in women! We're so incredibly hard on ourselves! A lot of women don't realise that the average learning age of men riding bikes is 14/16 years old, where as the average age of women learning to rode is 25-30. It leads to a huge skill gap between genders which means often women doubt themselves a lot more! I hope she gets the courage to do het test! It took me 4 failed bike tests to get my licence, I could ride no issues, but I was so nervous about failing that I just kept failing. The best thing I reccomend for someone who wants to ride but doesn't have a lot if courage, is to ride by themselves, it removes the social pressure. You can go at a pace you're comfortable with and stop when you want. I always found when I first got my license, that I was a lot more nervous riding with others because I was scared of making a mistake. When I started riding by myself, I realised I could learn at my own pace

      @mmorlan1481 2 роки тому

      @@SaffySprocket... I totally agree with you about riding alone. While you highlight such a valid point, at the same time, it presents an interesting catch 22. You need the confidence to go out alone, to build the confidence you need to go out alone . If you see what I mean. Thats why I admire your resilience to just go for it ,to spite the fear. These are valuable life lessons that are not just restricted to the joy that is motorcycling. My daughter is 19 and I have told her Ill get her a 125 as soon as she is ready. I'm really trying not to apply any pressure at all ,while at the same time, gently encourage her to see the tiger within herself. Thats where you content come in and why I feel its so great.

    Cool, I have seen those motorcycle camping tents but never in person yet.
    Check brake fluid levels via the little window in the master cyclinder which is on the right handlebar and follow the rear brake fluid line to its master cylinder just rearward of the right side footpeg.
    You are checking that the level's top can be seen through the window thus ensuring there is no leakage in the systems.
    Ensure the brake lever and rear brake pedal feel normal & firm when applied.
    Check the air pressure in the tires and adjust to spec in the owners manual. Not to the max psi (pounds square inch pressure) printed on the tire.
    Inspect the tires for any damage such as a nail in one or the tread is almost worn out in the centre area of the tire's circumference as this means it is time for new tires (which will provide better dry and wet riding traction meaning renewed good grip and safety).
    Have some one at a proper motorcycle shop show you how to check, adjust and lube the drive chain.
    Take cellphone, rain suit, credit card and ride. 😁

    I'm binge-watching, as you do. I've been a biker a long time, and yes, some drunken camps away. One of the worse things anyone can do, taking another first timer camping, when it's raining, is to get them cold and wet. They'll never go camping again. Warm, and a good night's kip is the trick, to any would be camper. Ditch the water bottle, Noooo, I hear you cry. Well, maybe not ditch it altogether. But change it for a single lined stainless steel water bottle, about 750ml. Carries your drinking water, you can shove in a fire and sanitize your drinking water, if needs be. Put it in a woollen sock, hot (one unworn, is preferable) use it to warm your tootsies in your bag. Next morning take off the sock, reboil the water, for that all important first brew of the day. I have lots of tips, if you're interested, of course. I love your zany way you're doing things, too much BS in this world, these days.
