    You can get your groceries and food at the local market for a fraction of the price, instead of weekly grocery shopping at those western indoor market. Those farmer's markets carry organic produce too. Thank me later!

      True! Although eggs and apples are the same price in the central market, but locals say that's the expensive one. There are cheaper morning markets slightly outside of town, if I can make it there on the weekend, otherwise I have work. Can't get milk, oatmeal, peanut butter there, etc.

    Oh my gosh it's so cool seeing visitors from other countries especially U.K. And USA! I'm Cambodian/American/German. Right now I'm in the us but I'm leaving for Cambodia on July 8th for 2 and a half months! One of the best parts of this video for me was seeing the EXACT same places like I went to that same bakery I'm not sure about the store cause they all look pretty similar but this was a wonderful video you just got a new sub! I hope you get to at least 5k :)

      Not at all! But you can find cheaper in the wholesale market

    Everything in the store is NOT cheap. The items in your video are cheaper at a Walmart store USA..

    • @travelingbee2227
      @travelingbee2227  7 років тому +9

      It is true - many items (ie peanut butter, specialty coffee) is not cheaper. Even eating out in rural America is comparable to some "western" restaurants in Cambodia. But you can also find some things for very cheap - for example, local markets, street food, laundry, bike servicing

    A BARGAIN was the $.50 beer on Pub street and surrounding areas in Siem Reap..... That's great that you're giving people an idea what things cost for a typical stay in Cambodia.... I think your rent is a bargain, especially with that swimming pool...13 more months until retirement and off the see the world...thanks for another great video....

      @travelingbee2227  7 років тому

      Yes! Alcohol is definitely the areas you see the biggest difference in price! At least coming from the U.S.

  • @WanderingWagars
    @WanderingWagars 7 років тому +7

    Wow that is some seriously great rent prices for what you get! The food in the store seemed standard, if even a bit high, but the market prices are excellent!

    It is strange for me when I visited and basically paid everything in USD - and I have never even been to America!
    It is SO cheap to live there - though I agree, the supermarket price isn't particularly cheap but eating out is amazing.

      As American the using the USD is amazing, but yea, must be really weird for everyone else!

    I found Cambodia food prices to be about same price as here in Perth. As oz is around 0.74c to U.S $1. Although it doesnt sound much on exchange rate it does add up fast. Rent is definately a bargain there though. I did read up about 3 year tourist visas there which im researching if its worth it. Thanks for info on Battambang

    • @travelingbee2227

      Thank you!! I got 8th months of health and travel insurance from World Nomads for around $540. Good for anywhere in the world. For visas.. I was told if you get a 30-day "ordinary" visa when you land instead of a 30-day tourist visa, it is easier to extend. So I did that and extended for 6th months, but I had a letter from my employer for the ordinary visa. I don't know how necessary it is, or what people can do without an employer sponsorship - sorry!

      Thanks!! Tried to be as specific as possible. I live in Cambodia right now working for an NGO, but I've had a good amount of time to travel in Cambodia (and Thailand) while here with friends/co workers/visitors. When I wrap up in a few weeks, I will be traveling around some more around Asia :)

    Wow!!That street food was super cheap!There's a major difference between what you get in the streets and in the store.Cambodia is definitely a good place to stay for a while!.Not as cheap as expected but still pretty good!

    • @travelingbee2227
      @travelingbee2227  7 років тому +1

      Yep! There are certain areas where it is vastly cheaper. So for travelers, hotels, eating out, and alcohol is quite cheap. But to live here and try to buy western comforts from home, its not as cheap

    • @travelingbee2227

    • @travelingbee2227
      @travelingbee2227  7 років тому +2

      Healthcare is not very good in Cambodia, and most people recommend you get an insurance policy that with airlift you to Singapore or Bangkok in an emergency. I decided on World Nomads which was about $530 for 8 months worldwide.
