On the house sale, don't lose heart, it takes time. You recognise yourself that it will eventually sell, so what's the problem? Just be patient, and don't put your life on hold in the meantime. If you really must sell soon, consider reducing the price. My French tenant told me on January 2nd that he was leaving. I decided to sell the flat, rather than continue letting. He handed the keys back on March 4th. I had some building work done and it went on the market in April. I got one really low offer from a viewer, plus I didn't like the agent pressuring me to accept less than I thought it was worth, so resiliated the agent's contract in June, and went with another agent. Back on the market again in July, then a buyer put in an acceptable offer in early August, which I accepted. We signed the pre-contract in mid-September, and this coming Friday, the sale will go through. So for me, it's been nearly 11 months between deciding to sell, and actually selling.
Thanks and I know patience is key and will make the best of it for now. Well done on the sale and congratulations. I hope to have similar news in the coming months x
@@RetireandTraveltheWorld Yes, it doesn't happen overnight. Don't be afraid to change Agents again either. None of them have your best interests at heart. Hello and thank you! I really miss having my things around me and one day I hope to find my ideal forever home where I can put all my photos and stuff back up. But for now the dream is to travel first for at least 5 years and let’s see what happens! Where is your home base now? X
@@RetireandTraveltheWorld I'm in the USA. I lived in Italy for a while, and ended up hating it, although I may purchase a home there for rental in another year or two. I have pets so won't consider van life (not my dream at all). I started traveling when I was younger (Asia, Europe) and mostly have it 'out of my system.' I'm 60 now, and get more easily stressed by uncertainty, especially as a single woman.
I think my problem is I don’t really travel when younger so haven’t got out of my system yet. I also understand about pets. When my dogs were still with me I would never have left them long term but sadly my last dog passed away a couple of years ago. Still miss their company! I actually like travelling alone and being able to do what I choose. In the main I have always been OK travelling single and any areas I am not sure I would jump in a group tour. Xx
About 10 years ago we knew 2 couples who sold their houses (in Australia) to travel Australia and the world - off they went for about 7 years and when they came back to Australia they were homeless.... they couldn't afford to buy back in the Australian housing market. Australia is sooooooo expensive and soooooo faaaaar away from the Europe, as an alternative Spain would be cheaper to buy and live in than Australia but it would be very complicated for them to apply to live in Spain or. Asia is out of the question because of the unbearable, never ending heat and humidity.... Would it be possible for you to rent your house out and live off the rent in a cheaper country. A friend of mine rented her (mortgage free) house out in Australia and went off to live in Slovenia for about a year - (she is very lucky because her father is Slovenian and therefore she could get EU residency) BUT she doesn't want to come back here because with the rent she is getting from her house in Australia (rent is sooooooooo expensive here and only the very, very wealthy can now afford to buy a house) she is living an extremely comfortable life in Slovenia where, compared to Australia, rent is very cheap as is food and public transport - she can even afford to travel around Europe as well... And the only income she has is the rent from her home in Brisbane, Australia....
Hello! I know I say now I do not want to come back but who knows what the future holds! My plan was to maintain the capital from the sale and use part of the interest to live off so if I did want to buy again in the UK I can. It is always an option to rent though that I keep considering although being a landlord is not my preferred choice. As we are not longer part of the EU in the UK we cannot live anywhere in Europe anymore and are limited to the amount of time we can spend there and I am actually not sure what the requirements are for Spain residency at the moment. I just need to make sure I do t make a bad decision! I had a very strange knock on my door last night with a bizarre offer I’ll explain more on a video as was soooo strange! Xx
@@RetireandTraveltheWorld I was in the same boat until l realised that the rent was not much less than the interest if l'd sold the house. And with the house sale sum depreciating in value each year and interest rates dropping then selling didn't make sense.
The interest rates declining is something to consider as well! With the Christmas period slowing everything down maybe this is the time for me to really have a rethink and regroup x
I feel your pain. We want to stop work, we had 2 buyers in the past 9 months then a 3rd, and hopefully final buyer. One was pushing for us to leave quickly and move into rented. In the end we accepted a lower offer for a short chain and found a house which is over budget :( But the house we want is top of the chain and the people there will move out to break the chain. 3rd time lucky. Fingers crossed it'll happen after 12 months and we'll meet you travelling in an airport or having a cocktail in a nice bar one day! happy travels.
It's the wrong time now + your house has gone "stale", l've been through this. Take it off the market & re-list in the spring. But as l've said before, l would not willingly lose that asset, it will only rise in value despite the current uncertainty. I rent mine out via an agent, 10%, tenants were thoroughly checked out & l've had no issues, get my £ monthly and l still have that asset. The agents deal with everything, l don't get involved with problems or repairs.
