I think the message behind this song is like she want to commit suicide. This is also kind of like a suicide note, like the phrases, “ Better hurry I’m leaving soon” “ There’s no way out but down” Kind of like she’ll kill her self by jumping off a rooftop. “ I want to see the world when I stop breathing” “I’m not okay” The biggest hint is when she said call my friends and tell them that I love them and I’ll miss them, which means she won’t see them ever again.

The songs from the When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? album released Mar 2019, like this one, were written in 2018 when she was very depressed after a friend died. She's doing much better now.
The song is about suicide on a rooftop. In the studio version you can actually hear an ambulance, people screaming, and a body falling to the ground at the end. I find this track incredibly painful to listen to, but it's also very underrated. It breaks my heart knowing that we could've lost Billie. I really hope she is doing better now.

@lemon water that's so truee, I deal with depression and anxiety, and unffortunly i dont feel comfortable to talk about it, cus everyone always says how much i'm happy and got better, and it just makes me feel even wrost when someone says that
This song was written while in severe depression, and writing it was a form of therapy. But now she's much happier and this song can help a lot of people in that situation so they don't feel alone I guess. I recommend you listen to the original version, it has an incredible production
It doesn't matter how many times I listen to this song, it gets me emotional everytime. The way she voices those sad lyrics makes me feel she is hugging us and telling she understands how we feel. It's such a cathartic feel...
This song is not from last year I think, but yes, it is about suicide. She is a lot happier now, happier she’s ever been in her life (she said that). I think you should hear the studio version too, there’s some really good bass at some parts of the songs. Thank you!

This song was written in one of her most depressive states, in her documentary she says that it's better to write it out than to actually do the action, it's very therapeutic for her. Her mother was actually the one that convinced her not to commit. I am forever grateful for Maggie (her mom) for that. Billie is in a much better place now and it's really inspiring to see how she's the happiest she's ever been now. This song is actually one of my favorites

She said that she wanted this song to feel like a hug, and wants this song to speak for us if we were going through depression
this song is basically a suicide note, she wrote it abt 3 years ago but put it on her album because it’s a song people can relate to and help them to feel less alone but she’s much happier now
what makes this song more sad is that when she performed it live she said that it's about her thoughts
Billie wrote this I think when she was around 13 or 14. But she officially released it last year on her debut album. Also she said she actually felt this way and she’s said that this was her way of letting her feelings out without hurting herself. It was a form of therapy for her. Maggie (her mom) was actually very concerned when she heard it but it made her feel better when Billie said it was her way of coping with how she was feeling.
This song is amazing. I think a lot of people don't understand why Billie's music help so much people and that makes me feel sad. I think when you deal with depression or anxiety or even sadness the worst thing is feeling alone. And I think Billie's music and especially that one help because she just say " You're not alone, I understand you". It's also a way for people to understand what they feel and just heal. She is amazing she deserves everything that she have now ❤️❤️. She use to feel like that for a very long time and she said that write this song was a way of express herself without make " dangerous things ". She is now happier.
True. Just the feeling and thought of "I am not the only one who is going through this shit" can absolutely make huge impact to someone going through stuff like this. The connection is what other people misunderstood about Billie and labeled her as "Dark and Depressive" wish people would understand that.
It is not just "you're not alone" that attracts others, but also those who've never experienced anything like it. Because she gives shape and reality to unxpressed emotions. Such clarification of feelings is a sense of relief in the listener.
It made me cry when I heard it but it was also so gratifying to know others feel pain that deeply. It was very powerful and I'm glad it was therapeutic for her
You should listen to 6.18.18 which is a song she wrote when xxxtentacion was killed

This song always gets me when I hear it. It's beautiful, but it will never not break my heart. I'm glad she's doing so much better.
It's a fantastic song and performance. Very important for people with suicidal thoughts to know they are not alone and I would suggest this song has helped thousands of people in that respect.

Billie wrote the song a few years back, it was just part of her set. I do think depression is on going even in recent interviews Billie talks about dealing with it. Finneas, is in the background they did a number of songs including Idontwannabeyouanymore and it's a great performance by Billie, nice if you could react. Thanks.

As a musician i can tell you that some artist are willing to put themself at some place other people just couldnt, get in the feelings that of another person.. see life through someones else eyes.. its easy for an actor or artist.. and probably necessary for Billie. Shes different, i dont think you have to alarmed by a song like this from her. Its what Billie is good at to.. showing emotions in her songs .. shes a master at it and it can make you think something is bad. Shes fine believe me ;)
She was genuinely suicidally depressed when she wrote it, she was talking about her own feelings. Some of her other songs are through other people's eyes, but not this one. Of course, since life isn't static, if she performs it now she takes on the viewpoint of 16 year old Billie, not 18 year old Billie.

I'm glad i heard she's happy and okay, as long as nobody is in pain i wont be in pain either, i honestly want everyones pain and sorrow to me and remove all those pain, anyone that reads this comment, you too are probably hurting right now and i really want that pain to fade in you and ill experience your pain instead, it's ok if nobody worries about my life right now but as long as you, random stranger, is very happy right now and in the best place ever, im okay too

Nah, she's not singing about suicide but how it feels like in the midst of persistent suicidal thoughts. What else is going on? Who's occuping my suicidal thoughts at these moments (my friends). People who commit suicde don't think of others, only relieving their pain. She's saying it's not all selfish.

I think it helps people who don’t have thoughts of suicide to be more aware of people who do, and hopefully reach out to them
Her mum almost didnt let her post this song because it was so personal. She wrote this song while in severe depression and it was a form of therapy, she also said multiple times that she makes music because she wants people to feel like theyre not alone if they hear a song that describes the way that they are feeling. As scary as the song can be there are a lot of people who go trough this and is very hard. i feel like this song can touch people on a very deep level and help them notice that they are not alone, and finding a song that describes you is a very good feeling trust me.
