I just wanted to say thank you to all the positive support out there! Every mom is entitled to their own opinion and that’s completely okay! 🥰 What isn’t okay however, is hateful comments telling me I’m giving my baby trauma 🤯.

Woman shame other women especially in motherhood is just how it is. I am sure Nicole did it as well do not let her fool you. And I can pretty much guarantee it. She breast feed for a while. She probably shamed other moms who did/could not. That is life what goes around comes around .

Please do not listen to the "mom-police". Insecure women need to attack other women because they are defending the method they have been told is right instead of using their own brain and intuition... You are doing a fantastic job! The fact that you have a toddler that sleeps for that many hours says it all. You know your baby the best. Listen to your heart, brain and intuition ❤

I also sleep trained and I didn't know until recently how much controversy there is over it. I am getting my graduate degree in Mental Health Counseling and child development emphasis in trauma. I have done many presentations and papers surrounding childhood trauma, and there was not 1 study I read that said long-term or short-term trauma can happen from sleep training. When doing my clinical hours I worked with parents, children, and toddlers. We had lots of parents come in who brought their children 5 years and younger, and they were having trouble getting their children to sleep through the night. This type of disruption at night can cause children to oversleep during the day, we also see that disrupted sleep is correlated to obesity and often the children were having a hard time staying focused in school. We would then work with the parents to create a schedule and routine to help get children into a habit of sleep at night, and a schedule for the day. We didn't have parents lock them in the room and ignore them, we would work on interventions and ways to get sleep associations down. I sleep-trained my daughter and she is a healthy, active, and intelligent toddler. (I decided to sleep train after my clinical hours b/c of my experience). When I use the word "sleep training" I mean setting a schedule, working on sleep associations, and getting down a consistent safe routine! Sounds like you did the same. Much love and know you are not a horrible parent. As a former teacher and now counselor for children you raise no concerns!

I think you are a phenomenal mom...and Matt a phenomenal dad. It's your job to train and or teach young human beings to do certain things. I personally believe that if more parents cared to make their children more self-sufficient....we'd not have so many mental health problems in the world as we do now nor so many whiners! Again - just my opinion. Are you and your family....happy.... if the answer is yes...you are doing a fantastic job.........period!

sleep is so important for both parents and babies and there are so many methods but you need to find what workds best for you and your family. Every baby is so different and for Sage she WILL NOT sleep if were in the room or if we bring her into bed with us. A little crying to have her have many nights of amazing sleep is well worth it.

“Taking care of babies” has very similar concepts of sleep training you had mentioned. She was a life saver for us!!! My 8 month old (boy Sage) has been sleeping all night in his own room in his crib since he was 4 months old give or take a few regressions in between there and I never let him “scream and cry for hours” he would fuss here and there and I would go in and soothe him and let him know I’m still there and he’s not “abandoned” and within 2-3 weeks he learned to put himself to sleep! We are all so much happier has a family, I will do the same thing with my future children! Keep doing what your doing momma 💕💕

First time mom here!! My son is 6.5 month old and I swear to you that being a mom has been a life lesson and has made me more empathic toward motherhood. We were struggling to make our son sleep through the night, I spend hours and hours researching (I know, I should’ve slept those hours instead) until I realized I just needed to follow his queues just like when he’s hungry. I was making out life harder by following sleep and nap schedules and most of the time he wasn’t ready to sleep.
He has been sleeping 12 hrs for the last two months now, waking up twice to eat but goes to sleep right after eating. Another tip I would give any new mom, got to bed right after your baby falls asleep.

I’ve also received passive aggressive comments about even the small things that I’ve chosen to do with my child and just like you’ve mentioned.. you can’t possibly know what you’d do in a situation unless you have personally been there, especially may I say, in parenting! I’m grateful for the amount of information that’s accessible to us but it also comes with others judging parents for what they do differently.. as if there’s one way to raise a child. I’m so glad you posted this, I really needed this as an encouragement! Also, as a reassuring reminder that others’ best efforts look differently from person to person!

Especially, when no one asked! 👏🏽 👏🏽 I have 3 beautiful girls. 20, 19, and 16 and now that they are older I find myself thinking all the time - I should have held them more, I should have yelled less, I should have worked less and saved more and the list goes on and on. Thank you for this. Before being a a parent I planned to sleep train, then I saw all the social media opposition to it and read about the “trauma” that would come with it…. We were miserable for over a year before I threw in the towel and, yes, gently sleep trained our son. We all are so much happier now and finally sleeping again, 13 months in. Listen to your mom instincts!

It is not a one size fits all!! It takes a lot of bravery to share and help others to understand how to help their child sleep better. I totally agree with you and how sad that you had to feel that shame. I remember feeling that way sleep training my 2 and 1 year old. It is definitely in the top 10 hardest things you will do as a parent, my mental health was going down as well and there were SO many tears that would shed while I’d just rock my baby to start the next session of patting and sleeping. You are a fantastic mom!💕

My son coslept with us until he was 9 months old. I started a new job where I wasn’t going to be able to be home the whole night for his sleep every night, so cosleeping was not going to work anymore. He would cry for hours most nights even when we did cosleep. I attempted “gentle” sleep training where I’d put him in his crib and try to comfort him, but he just cried. I left him in there and went back to comfort him every 15 minutes or so and he would just cry hard every time I went back in. Eventually I realized the only thing that was going to work for him was to cry. It was almost like even if I held him, rocked him, nursed him, he needed to cry for a period of time before he’d eventually fall asleep. Once he started sleeping in his crib on his own he actually just automatically started sleeping a whole 12 hours straight. Yes he’d cried for a while before he’d fall asleep and still sometimes does, but he sleeps so much better on his own than he was when we coslept. For some people, and for some babies, CRYING HAPPENS!! Individuals have no right to shame and bully parents for their parenting choices when they don’t know the full story or all of the attempts made before they found what worked BEST for them and their baby. Ugh I’m sorry to any and all parents who are made to feel like they’re failing or harming their child for doing what they need to do for the betterment of the family as a whole.

thank you for sharing your story. I agree crying happens and it doesnt mean you're a bad parent. It took me a while as a new mom to be okay with Sage crying in order to get things done like use the bathroom or eat a meal. Its how they communicate and you start to learn their different cries.

I have had such a hard time putting my little girl to sleep since she turned 6 months old. She’s approaching 13 months old now, and I still have to stay in the room and rock her for up to an hour for her to go to sleep. I try to let her tire herself out a bit and I always comfort her when she is super duper crying, but it does take a toll on my energy every night. The time I have with my husband when he is home I’m exhausted simply trying to put her to sleep. You are nothing less than a FANTASTIC mother and anyone who says differently doesn’t know you, your life, or doesn’t have kids! You’re doing a great job, keep that confidence in yourself! Us mothers need it. ❤️

While I was pregnant I watched a lot of your videos on routine/sleep. When I had my baby boy I watched them again, early on we decided to follow the baby's rythm instead of having schedules ... then I watched them again as I was getting ready for the 4 month sleep regression you mentioned ... which never came. I watched your videos starting solids ... and he absolutely hated food, got him more enthusiastic until about 8 months. At 9 months, I still let him drink milk to sleep. I still wake at 2 or 3 am for a feed. We decided to go slower with solids although I would love to make the food you show us.
We have had completely different experiences but I will still turn to your videos for support. You're an AMAZING mom, and just because we chose to go through this differently does not make us better or worse parents. We all try to do what's best for our family ...
