I work in a facility that makes different medical products and components of or medical treatments. We use sodium hydroxide on a daily basis to clean our metal resusued parts, we fill thousands of liters of it into barrels to go out probably for mass production of soaps and stuff. ive gotten some pretty concentrated stuff on me but i washed it off before it did damage, it just made a little rash like spot on my forehead 😂 one of those tubes burst from the gun we have that seals the barrel off when its done filling and it sprayed at me. Since i was filling sealed barrels where its in closed off tubing and stuff i didnt have PPE on because that would be obnoxious haha. Great video!

Crystals are used to clean my kitchen drain which hasnt much slope to it , so its crystals first followed by some hot water , watch for spitting and keep your face out of the way ..
Listen for the roar going down the pipes - Im on 8th floor - so everything below gets cleared as well . The roar , can be heard going along the main pipes if a bit much goes in . Its also quite good at cleaning toilet pans - sprinkle in , wait until reaction is done then flush - the bowl should be clean , even up round the bend .

Is it really good for clearing off oil from pipes or sinks though? Although changing it into a huge chunk of soap helps dissolves it in water over time, you would literally need to keep your water running constantly for a long period of time since soap doesn't really dissolve by just sitting in stagnant water.

Thanks for the interesting video. Would that make sense to dissolve hair and produce plant fertilizer (provided KOH is used instead of NaOH to avoid sodicity in the soil, and the overall pH is finally neutral)? I havent found much info on that topic. Thanks again

Don't. Honestly. Nare and other depilatory creams are made with a mixture of sodium hydroxide and ammonium thioglycolate. It's fairly unique because it mostly dissolves only hair proteins. If slowing or even shutting down the follicle is your goal Laser is the way to go

I'm convinced sodium hydroxide is the main active ingredient in Head &Shoulders, the original version. The modern version doesn't seem nearly as effective. I recall getting a burning sensation if I left in on too long, but the dandruff what greatly reduced. A friend of mine mentioned they don't use it because it burns their scalp. A supermarket brought out their own version which was very effective but also gave that burning sensation. People must have complained because it disappeared a few months later. I'm tempted to buy some regular shampoo and add some in, though I wouldn't know how much. I bet it will work. I think the zinc just acts as a preventative/fungal growth inhibitor.
