    Back up the sherrif in High Noon is NOT corrupt. He is stalwart, brave and true. Several killers whom the sherrif put in prison are out and headed to the town for revenge. The townspeople won't back him up because of cowardice. They fear death and the destruction of their town. So they would rather have the sheriff run away and placate the criminals. THAT is what John Wayne had a problem with

    It's a delicate dilemma... in a country that values personal freedom, that must include the freedom to choose communism, and other alternative goverment- which would ultimately remove those same freedoms.
    The Hollywood blacklisting took the fear communism too far, of course.
    But it's strange how some people are pro communism- or it's lead-in, socialism- in this age of the fear of all things Russian.

    • @themightymcb7310
      @themightymcb7310 7 років тому +4

      I'm listening True national communism has never actually been done before. It's been attempted, but someone always comes along and fucks it up along the way. Soviet union was well on its way until Stalin seized power and essentially became a fascist dictator running a socialist nation. You see, communism is not the problem. People are. People will fight tooth and nail for every last dime they can scrape together, even if that means starving, killing, and torturing people who have less power than you. That is why we need a government, because anarchy will lead to one man ruling a kingdom of bones. This is also why we need checks and balances in our government. However, as this video demonstrates, the checks and balances do not always work. Regular people had their constitutional rights stolen from them in a court which is sworn to uphold the constitution. They were convicted of thoughtcrime, guilty only of having an opinion that those in power disagree with.
      The bottom line is that people cannot be trusted with power, and neither can governments. That is why we must balance a free private sector with a government that is divided such that each branch steals power away from the others. Almost like crabs in a bucket. Each branch steals from a different branch, all while getting stolen from themselves. The net distribution of power is then even.

    • @Kalroy

      That's just the excuse given for the failure of communism and socialism. "Oh the people who knew it best just didn't do it right. We can do it right and it will totally work this time." As I recall that was also the mantra when Hugo Chavez was elected. As to your desirous reason for government I like the American reason better, "That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men..."

    • @josecipriano3048
      @josecipriano3048 4 роки тому

      @@Kalroy it's no excuse, it's the truth. Read about what communism is supposed to be, and then read about how it went down in those countries, and you'll find out that there's never been a communist country in the world.

    The sheriff in High Noon was not corrupt. Have you even seen the movie? The sheriff is trying to raise a posse to help him deal with a character named Frank Miller and his criminal gang. The townsfolk are either indifferent to the sherrif or hostile to him, as many of the locals are friends of Miller. Wayne's problem with High Noon was with the last scene, where the sherrif [played by Gary Cooper] throws away his badge.

    The President's Mystery was not based on any book by Sinclair Lewis. I'm very familiar with Lewis' works. The president was FDR who challenged 5 writers to come up with a mystery story. On the credits it says the film was inspired by FDR and lists all 6 writers. The screenplay was partnered by two men, one being Nathan West who wrote Miss Lonelyhearts and others.

    10: None of the ten members of the Hollywood 10 (the beginning of the Blacklist) invoked the 5th Amendment. On the advice of their lawyer, a former assistant district attorney from San Francisco, they declared their right not to answer any questions based on the 1st Amendment. Yes, they were truly that dim. Many people later questioned by congress did invoke the 5th, as they were allowed to do. Therefor, they suffered no judicial consequences.
    9: All ten members of the Hollywood 10 were members of the Communist Party USA. That was certainly not illegal, but they kept it secret and registered with the party under assumed names. We know this because the FBI had an agent undercover in the party who was able to snag a copy of the membership roster that listed the actual names with the assumed names.
    8: At least seven of the Hollywood 10 were actively involved with trying to secure Communist Party domination of the Screen Writers Guild or the Screen Directors Guild, depending on which union they were members of. Only one of the Hollywood 10 was actually an actor, the others were writers and directors. An effort to gain influence on the Screen Actors Guild was started by the Communists, but they were shut down by the President of that union, Ronald Reagan.
    7: Humphrey Bogart, famously photographed at the head of a march defending the Hollywood 10 pulled his support for them when he found out through hearings by the House UnAmerican Activities Committee that there were all actually Communists.
    6: The Blacklist was created and maintained, as described at the beginning of this video, by an organization of the Hollywood studios, the MPA. Though the MPA may have paid close attention to Congressional testimony, or lack thereof, the United States Government had nothing to do with creating or maintaining the Blacklist.
    5: Sinclair Lewis was a socialist, and the screenwriter named was a card "not" carrying Communist.
    4: Abraham Polonsky was a member of the 10 and a Communist.
    3: Anti-Communist efforts were strongly supported by both political parties.
    2: See number 7 and number 10 above.
    1: The Blacklist lasted from 1948 to 1960. Please count on your fingers, that's 12 years, not decades.
    Of course, the time and money spent chasing commies in Hollywood was a waste because few people paid attention to whatever propaganda that made it into American movies. The most trenchant Communist propaganda was produced during WWII when we were trying to convince Americans to love Uncle Joe. Of course, as soon as the war was over, Stalin lowered the iron curtain, exploded an A-bomb (design stolen from us by Klaus Fuchs and sent to the Soviets by the Rosenbergs) we needed to change our view by about 180 degrees. Then we hated that Communist propaganda. Ironically, HUAC and their Senate equivalent used the movies that the US Government had encouraged Hollywood to make extolling the virtues of the Soviet Union as prime examples of the extent that propaganda was infiltrating Hollywood. Oh, well.

      I would be labeled as conservative ( I think labels are stupid btw) and I think law enforcement is as corrupt as any government out there and that cops should be held to a higher standard when they break the law than non-police people because of they are cops. Yeah they may have a tough job but that's why they can be pricks with badges, however that shouldn't give them the ability to make the laws up as they go along or be above the law.

    This fellow glossed over a lot of facts. He seems to imply that those involved who were Communists in Hollywood were just a bunch of innocent weaklings.
    He fails to mention those "weaklings" in Hollywood and their thugs (Herb Sorrell and company) did physical damage to people and property who disagreed with their Communist philosophy prior to being called out.
    He also did not mention their slavish devotion to Stalin. Their personal papers divulge their loyalty to Stalin and his minions. Most of them also denied the murders, the gulags and atrocities that Stalin inflicted ever occurred or existed.
    Finally it is hard to take seriously millionaires with their mansions and servants actually believed in equal sharing of
    material wealth. If so, they would have voluntarily divided up their riches. None of them ever did.
    I should ad that the gentleman does not understand true free market capitalism which is transactions between 2 or more people where both sides benefit. He seems to think what we have today (economic fascism) is the same as capitalism. it is not.
    The commentator (I am assuming he is responsible for the content and not just hired due to his British accent), should have some time looking at the other side of this argument instead of giving us the usual devoid of the facts version we have all come to know. In other words don't be intellectually lazy.

    POLITICAL CORRECTNESS = FASCISM DISGUISED AS MANNERS (As a term, "Political correctness" originated in a publication of the Soviet Communists [Pravda? Isvestia?] during the 1920s)

    • @gordonlawrence4749
      @gordonlawrence4749 7 років тому +1

      Wouldn't that make it Communism?

      Gordon Lawrence: You like to ASS-U-ME,, don't you? The idea of "thought crime" is a tool for tyrants. You may as well call a shovel "Communist" because Communists used them! The idea of "political correctness" was around long before Marx or Engels drew first breath. I've seen one American post-Revoloution and pre-1812 example. What is the difference between Communism and Capitalism? In a capitalist system, one person exploits another, but in a Communist system, it's the other way around!

    • @gordonlawrence4749
      @gordonlawrence4749 7 років тому +1

      If the term originates in a communist publication as you say then by definition it is of communist origin. If you are talking about the concept as opposed to the name for the concept then you need to differentiate as you cannot ASS-U-ME that the reader would automatically do the same.

      Gordon Lawrence: Are all man-made objects in Earth orbit Communist because Sputnik was the first such satellite? That fact was announced in many a Communist publication! We Americans didn't have a space program at that time. Does that make "space exploration" communist? Please explain! Inquiring minds want to know!

      Gordon Lawrence: Should you trouble to read my original post, you may notice its third word is FASCISM, and the only word you seem to have noticed was the 19th word, in parenthese and not in ALL CAPS. If you can hold an entire 25-or-30 word thought in your head all by yourself, you made a deliberate choice to distort my meaning with hostile intent; if you can't hold such a thought in your head, what are you doing here?

    • @themightymcb7310

      Ernest Bywater No it's pretty much the same. People want livable wages and the oligarchs fight back to keep their precious money. People want to have free healthcare like the rest of the world and the oligarchs pay off politicians to keep them paying their dues. People want job security in an age that robots are stealing jobs faster than they create new ones, and the oligarchs fund better robots to replace us with. It's not different. It is exactly the same. The middle class is disappearing and our money is worth less and less each year, even as we get paid the same.

    • @ernestbywater411
      @ernestbywater411 7 років тому +3

      The discussion in the topic was how the anti-socialist conservatives in Hollywood were going overboard against communism. Today the socialist in Hollywood are going overboard against the conservatives. Which is the point I was making.
      As to you comments on the workers vs the business men struggle, the major problem with the way that's played out is the biggest loser, by far, in the struggle is the small businessman trying to build up a business for his family, and the next worst hit is the poorest of the workers because the small businesses can no longer afford to employ them. Most of the disappearing money is going to fund government freebies to non-workers and to politicians and government bureaucrats.
      When i was growing up the way to get what they now call a liveable wage was to develop the skills to get a better wage after having entered the work force with next to no skills or no skills and being paid next to nothing, just enough to survive on. Now those very same jobs no longer exist for the job entry market because the wages have been pushed up on the claim they have to be a liveable wage, so the employers will now only employ skilled an experienced people in the jobs. great move that was. No place to enter the work force now.

      Ernest Bywater I don't necessarily think it is fair to cry about being oppressed when conservatives control all 3 branches of government, at least for the next year or so. As for Hollywood, they've gotten a bit too pc for my tastes, but they're no more socialist than any other group. Social and economic liberalism are not the same thing. They are two different axes on the political spectrum

    • @ernestbywater411
      @ernestbywater411 7 років тому +3

      Firstly, I wasn't crying about being oppressed. I simply pointed out that the situation is now the exact opposite of what was mentioned in the video clip, and that the people in charge are being just as abusive to those in Hollywood and conducting propaganda as those mentioned in the video. The situation is just the same, all that's changed is who's picking on who. Since I don't live or work in Hollywood it's hard for them to oppress me directly. However, that doesn't mean I should stand aside and let them abuse others when I can speak up about it. Mind you, those supporting the socialist agenda in Hollywood and want the world socialist state will do their best to see anything I saw is destroyed or ignored.
