Ian You are Spot On that Cardo is the best out there. I have had ZERO issues with dropped communication with all my friends. Automatic pairing when we are in range with none of the "Can You Hear Me Now?" crap which is all the others and they are Waterproof unlike the others. When I pull into the driveway I automatically connect to my Mannequin seamlessly so he knows I'm home. Great Video Ian! 👍👍
I think you do a great job with your videos. That being said, I find it hilarious that you described the absolute perfect reason to use the Mosko layering system, and then chose to take your road gear anyway. It’s videos like these that make people think it’s a good idea to buy 30 or 40 pounds worth of luggage, that’s empty weight, and then pack a ton of unnecessary stuff. Then those guys are surprised when their bike handles like crap or they start shattering bones. I think it would be eye-opening for you to put all that junk in a basket and stand on a scale. Maybe you could do a video about how you lightened everything up and how much better your bike handles. Start with your tool roll. Unless you’re fantasizing about rebuilding a motor in the middle of the desert, I bet you could lose 75% of that weight. All you need to be able to do is remove panels, maybe change oil, and swap a tire. I think there’s a whole series of videos you could pull out of this. And people will listen to you, because you're a quirky guy and it's obvious you're learning as this channel progresses. Keep it going!

Useful video would be about the essentials not about moving your whole garage with you and complain that the NV BDR is too hard to ride especially at the beginning.

Very similar to the load out I'm currently carrying on the Pan American Highway. One tip is to use the MSR whisperlite International stove since it runs on gasoline and finding butane cans can get tricky in remote areas or countries. I also pack my sleeping bag and tent loose in my panniers rather than in compression sacks. That way they fill all the corners of the pannier better than a round object in a square-ish container. Thank you for doing a gear review and saying when the gear is worth spending the money on because its good!! Too many reviews (not you!) are cost conscious but when youre stuck in an office all week and want to get out at the weekend, its super useful to know which bits are worth the extra spend so you can maximise comfort and enjoyment. Really enjoy your videos. I bought my Tiger 1200 RP about a month ago, so I have been upgrading all my gear which is basically going on six years old now (and was more suited to riding my T120 and not ADV riding). So yeah, new jacket, pants, helmet, gloves, boots, GPS, comms etc etc (also bought the pack talk edge with second helmet set, since I was waiting for my pre-ordered Hornet X2 to arrive (which it did today)... absolutely hated the Sena in my Neotech ll, just stopped working after three years, of light use). I started with the Badlands Pro, but it was just too heavy for me, and sizing was off. After going back. and forth I ended up settling on the Latitude jacket and pants with fit, and suited me best. I know there is less ventilation but I it will be primarily for cooler weather riding. I bought a really nice pair of Forma Terra Evo X boots which are very similar to the full length boots you have (they fit me best out of several brands I tried). Be damned if I have been able to take them out yet. Haven't ridden where I have felt comfortable wearing all new stiff gear as well as getting used to a brand new, much different animal of a bike lol (Angeles Crest was a blast, but then I had to ride through major LA traffic to get to Revzilla in Costa Mesa as I was tired of buying, trying, and returning gear through the mail). Having my 600 mile service done tomorrow, then it will free me up to head out and do some serious miles out in the more open desert and coastal routes (which is what I mainly bought the Tiger for... definitely not for commuting). Now I have to start collecting my camping gear as I plan on doing a lot of Moto-camping... it definitely adds up, but it is all worth it, and will last me many years :).

The amount of stuff you take depends on tolerance for discomfort. I did the IDBDR and camped on it with the green chile system (2 20L dry bags). But I also use ultralight backpacking gear and pack pretty minimally. I still slept just fine every night, I still had a tent with mosquito netting and all that, but my stuff was pretty bare minimum, and most of one of the drybags was food. But I'm sure that people who packed more than me were more comfortable. It's probably too small to see but my profile picture is my bike on the BDR fully loaded.
Lucky you, you have got temperatures down to 32 F = 0 C. My last overnight trip it was -12 C = 10 F in the morning when I did crawl out of my tent. Some bikes required warming with gas torch or having a fire under the motor to get them started. Daytime high was -5 C = 23 F. Heated grips very much appreciated.
You are right about changing things up. For me fall and summer are totally different kits. The one thing I would not scrimp on is a tent. I would NEVER go any cheaper than REI brand. I laughed at a You tuber who said "all tents leak". He must have been a walmart brand guy.
I think it’s an informal video and is spot on. If I’m going to camp and not have hotel room at night I’m looking at buying all that same equipment. Yes like one person said it’s 10k worth of equipment but it’s a life long investment into Adventure and Excitement! To me that’s priceless ✊🏻👌🏻

Here in SW Florida, to say it's hot is an understatement. Picture putting your head in a 200 degree oven and turning a blow dryer on high. That's what it feels like to ride in the summer here. Looking at gear and coming to the realization that there is no gear for this type of environment. But, still considering the Klim Baja, at least the pants for now. No way I can wear a jacket in this heat. Protective shirt and jersey at the most. Thanks for all you do, like the advice.
After 9 months travelling in Central and North America (Went to prudhoe bay) I can say that dont need even the half of the things from those “top” brands, I have been throwing away things since I left home, I carry only 65 littlers and Im still confortable everyday Just be smart with the things you buy, dont need to buy the most expensive things to have a good trip, better save that money for travelling Really nice video though

I’m giving you a thumbs up because you included things that you did not need to bring. I bring tools, even though I ride a Honda or Kawasaki. I wind up using the tools to help other people.😂 I have a question. Do your sleeping pad slips around with your sleeping bag? I used a Bivy sack and threw my pad in with a nylon sleeping bag and somehow it’s slicker than snot.
Wow so much gear. I reckon you could cut it back. I can’t ride my 690 with too much weight on the rear. Impacts the handling so much it becomes dangerous to ride. Gotta keep things really light with soft panniers low and forward. Less is more. Cheers
Your bike has to be ready for these types of conditions too. Not even a cursory look at the complexity of modern 21st Century machines shows this is no small matter as well. I looked at a Russian "Ural" bike here in SC not long back which had (egads!) "two wheel drive" by way of a sidecar. It was not on sale i guess i would say it wasn't a US made chainsaw either. Anyhow remarkable skill set just to bike on this type of terrain for anything with two wheels let alone something so incredibly engineered as this. Absolutely amazed great content.
Buddy of mine started with to much and ended up mail half the shit back home, stayed in motels and ate a restaurants and still finished Colorado and Utah BDR

Interesting. We just did a 1500+ mile trip to Zion from So Cal camping in the desert. We took the big girls, KTM 1290, 1250GS and a Africa Twin. Had a blast and can’t wait to do it again. Hopefully with more off road next time. All the bikes performed flawlessly except about 90 mph, the MPG just crashes. 😂. I wore Revit dirt series with a base layer. Was perfectly comfortable in 40 to 80f. We have similar camping gear other than all my stuff being Big Agnes. The rechargeable inflater is amazing, one charge inflated everyone’s mattress for four days.

I have one helmet with the latest Cardo and another with the latest Sena. The Cardo I can barely hear above 65mph with earplugs in and the Sena is clear regardless of speed.
I see this is the battleship super dreadnaught version and a super setup. But for those of us on the smaller bikes doing day trips, it would be great if you did a similar video! Like a day trip on your KTM 350. What gear and apparel? For daytrips with my Honda CRF300L for day trips this would be great information. Appreciate you listing your gear and doing this video. :)
Have you ever tried the mosko moto nomax tankbag? What is better in tusk tankbag? I'm just curious, because you have all the good stuff from mosko, except for this one, is there any reason :P ?
Go with Kriega rackless. I did a ton of research before finding the best ones for my purpose and these fit best. My purpose being “light is right”. Comes in over 5 lbs lighter than reckless of similar storage size and are damn near bulletproof. Downside is they’re not as modular as the Mosko. I really like that about their design.

Paul from Australia, I have used the XD-4 fantastic soiled helmet, but as I have neck problems need a helmet as light as possible, so I do have the Klim Kros pro as well and agree seems cheaply made ( without the cheap price 😂😂😂) I use a laying system , base layer - Merino wool , Quick dry T- Shirt , wool sooks , Knox Urban pro 2 jacket - abrasion resistant for road as well as off road High CE ratting AA , ( fantastic in heat ) if it’s colder put my Fly racing over the top , it’s wind and water 💧 resistant. If it rains put on my Reviti Dirt series ( 100 % waterproof) pants for more off road are my Knox , but ADV and road My John Doo AAA rated cargo pants ( both jacket and pants have Soft Armour . , water proof over pants if rains for both Enduro and ADV , KNOX gloves ADV / road and MX style gloves for Enduro. Boots Long forma boots for Enduro and day ADV rides and short ADV rides short Forma boots ( as good to walk in )And for Enduro my Forcefield Chest protector .
Ian, love your channel, been a sub for a while. Excellent reviews w/ brutal honesty and it is genuine. I like that. Silly question - how do you clean your riding gear (jacket, pants, liners, etc.)? I do mostly on road riding in Midwest and get very sweaty after a long ride in Summer. Even with armor out of my gear, it is too bulky to just throw into the washing machine & dryer. Plus it’ll potentially damage both the machines and gear. Thanks for your very informative content & reviews even to someone who doesn’t go off-road.
15:57 - I swear by this type of seat cover. Out here in the tropics, it stops your bum from being roasted by a hot seat when the bike is parked under the sun. In the rain, water doesn't collect under your bum either. And at home, it stops stray cats from shredding the seat underneath.
I got the lowly..yet amazingly great cardo spirit, the bottom shelf cardo, but it functions flawless for only 100$ i won't waste my time with ultra cheap comms
I didn't catch which tire inflator he uses. My Slime one is rather large and I am done using a bicycle tire pump, roadside, in gear, in the heat. I'd ditch the sleeping bag liner to save space. I have a nice fleece one, but a down bag should really keep you warm if you use a ground pad. I also carry a tea-light candle lantern. Nothing better than a tiny bit of light in the darkness of solo dispersed camping. I have an AM/FM radio that has a two lights and can charge a phone. Again, a little radio can be a friend when solo or out of cell range.
I make sure I book rooms in advance and only take fresh socks, underwear, sleepwear, toiletries, raingear, tools, spares including a battery and cash. That's it. But nice video Ian.
I’m the same. I’m far more comfortable in a hotel and I’m not in Magadan. There’s always a hotel somewhere in the US. I pack so light. 2 graph base layers, socks, toiletries, a pair of pants, pair of sneakers, underpants, basic tools, rain gear. Basically that’s it.
I do a split, if it’s cold or rainy, I treat myself to a hotel. If it’s nice out, I camp. I’ve found a wide range in hotel prices and knowing I have a tent and sleeping bag/ pad on the back gives me a bit of assurance I’ll always have a place to sleep.
Id love to see you try out the klim raptor shell suit. Similar to the mosko basilisk style. Almost zero reviews out there. Cheers for the great content.
It's darn near a clone of the Mosko Basilisk, and their promo video makes it sound like they've thought of it for years. LOL I have Mosko and Klim, but I'll stick with my Gen 1 Basilisk.
For me the Raptor is the winner. I found the Basilisk to be overbuilt, bulky, ill fitting and noisy. Raptor flows air better, packs a little smaller. Both are priced ridiculously but I got my Raptor for half price.

Those Mosko panniers a very convenient and nice but extremely heavy especially when you consider the required rack and the pucks they mount to. Probably an easy 20 lbs of weight savings available just by going with a simpler soft rack less pannier set up.
Ian, I loved your video however, I want to take issue with the 'I pack too much food..." your assumption that you can get food along the way is valid only if your bike remains functional. I believe you need to think 'survival" if things go really wrong. I would argue you need at a minimum of three days of food and water. Sure, you can always call help on the Inreach, but should you bet your life on it or yourself? Love to have this chat over a beer on a hot dinner day.😉 Oh, PS please don't drop your water purifier on the ground. Breaking it might be a really bad thing.
Having a mind set of survival kit preparedness is good but I would disagree on your recommendation of always having a minimum of 3 days of food. In the desert where water sources may be spare at best having 2 days of water is good yes, but we can all easily survive on less food so snacks enough for 2 days is plenty. Never pass an opportunity to filter and refill water bags if you are low. Most importantly hydration packs or tank bag with water tube so you can easily stay hydrated.
weirdest gear selection ever seen; i guess its cause u‘re us citizens and im from europe. we may have other stuff here. what i highly recommend to check you out are helmets from schuberth. i use the C4 Pro, i dont have any issues with noise (the most silent helmets they build), sena comm. is built in and a sunvisor as well. pinlock includet. im not into the camping stuff, therefor no comment about this. for clothing i recommend the vanucci underwear set and the socks, gtx boots (waterproof + ventilation) and protective trousers and jacket from büse. maybe you have the chance to check this out, i really would like to hear your opinion about it. greetings from austria 🇦🇹
Looking at the EICMA show, have you noticed the Kove 800X/ Super Adventure? It’s looks really interesting with 100 hp and a kerb weight of just 183 kg. I’ll hope you have a chance of getting hold on one and make a review of it.
I'm a fan man, but this is SO over the top for 99% of riders that it's actually comical. And besides that, you are never going to have fun when you have THAT much crap to tote along. If you can't fit everything you need in 30 to 35L, you are carrying too much. And I'm talking a week on the road.
For how expensive Klim is, they should offer superb support as well. Unfortunately, this hasn't been the case. Last year I submitted a warranty claim on a pair of their gloves, which quite literally fell apart within a few rides. They requested documentation, which I provided. They rejected the photos because they were *too large*. After a few back and forths and my offer to host the files so that they could access directly (instead of emailing to their antiquated server), they just stopped responding. Still wearing their pants and my older gloves, but their new stuff seems to have horrid quality control, and worse customer service than any budget brand, which is a shame.
I recently discovered that the Vanashe GPS mount sticks out too far and covers half the display when standing up . I sometime "peak" down to confirm what gear im in and if not in rally mode it covers the gear selection. wish it was a bout an 1" shorter.
You only realize you've packed too much gear in *retrospect* (even though you might have had suspicions before hand). For each item you didn't use, one could easily imagine situations where you easily might have (perhaps even in a life saving situation). As for the gear, your comment about the protection level of the Badlands Pro's CE rating might be inaccurate--the Rucka Kingsley might exceed that of the Badlands Pro (Chris, "chap in a cap" would know for sure). I've read that John Muir traveled the whole of Yosemite and much of the Sierra Nevada range with only the food and gear he could carry in his jacket pockets. Fortunately, we have other options; and sponsors!

Communications: When will a company design a weather-proof, robust, GMRS radio with a simple bluetooth connection to helmet setups? That would change the game for mobile communications. Stop with all the bluetooth mesh complexity crap and use a radio signal that's functioned flawless for decades. A solid 5-mile range that doesn't quit with a few trees or buildings would be the way to go.
Sounds like the oxbow renegade x radio I keep seeing ads for on my feed. No experience with it yet personally but sounds like it ticks the boxes on your wishlist.

Very similar to the load out I'm currently carrying on the Pan American Highway. One tip is to use the MSR whisperlite International stove since it runs on gasoline and finding butane cans can get tricky in remote areas or countries. I also pack my sleeping bag and tent loose in my panniers rather than in compression sacks. That way they fill all the corners of the pannier better than a round object in a square-ish container. Thank you for doing a gear review and saying when the gear is worth spending the money on because its good!! Too many reviews (not you!) are cost conscious but when youre stuck in an office all week and want to get out at the weekend, its super useful to know which bits are worth the extra spend so you can maximise comfort and enjoyment. Really enjoy your videos. I bought my Tiger 1200 RP about a month ago, so I have been upgrading all my gear which is basically going on six years old now (and was more suited to riding my T120 and not ADV riding). So yeah, new jacket, pants, helmet, gloves, boots, GPS, comms etc etc (also bought the pack talk edge with second helmet set, since I was waiting for my pre-ordered Hornet X2 to arrive (which it did today)... absolutely hated the Sena in my Neotech ll, just stopped working after three years, of light use).
I started with the Badlands Pro, but it was just too heavy for me, and sizing was off. After going back. and forth I ended up settling on the Latitude jacket and pants with fit, and suited me best. I know there is less ventilation but I it will be primarily for cooler weather riding.
I bought a really nice pair of Forma Terra Evo X boots which are very similar to the full length boots you have (they fit me best out of several brands I tried). Be damned if I have been able to take them out yet. Haven't ridden where I have felt comfortable wearing all new stiff gear as well as getting used to a brand new, much different animal of a bike lol (Angeles Crest was a blast, but then I had to ride through major LA traffic to get to Revzilla in Costa Mesa as I was tired of buying, trying, and returning gear through the mail). Having my 600 mile service done tomorrow, then it will free me up to head out and do some serious miles out in the more open desert and coastal routes (which is what I mainly bought the Tiger for... definitely not for commuting).
Now I have to start collecting my camping gear as I plan on doing a lot of Moto-camping... it definitely adds up, but it is all worth it, and will last me many years :).

The amount of stuff you take depends on tolerance for discomfort. I did the IDBDR and camped on it with the green chile system (2 20L dry bags). But I also use ultralight backpacking gear and pack pretty minimally. I still slept just fine every night, I still had a tent with mosquito netting and all that, but my stuff was pretty bare minimum, and most of one of the drybags was food. But I'm sure that people who packed more than me were more comfortable. It's probably too small to see but my profile picture is my bike on the BDR fully loaded.
And I did a BDR in my 1996 Honda Accord… stop pretending it’s a monumental feat…
Lucky you, you have got temperatures down to 32 F = 0 C. My last overnight trip it was -12 C = 10 F in the morning when I did crawl out of my tent. Some bikes required warming with gas torch or having a fire under the motor to get them started. Daytime high was -5 C = 23 F. Heated grips very much appreciated.
You are right about changing things up. For me fall and summer are totally different kits. The one thing I would not scrimp on is a tent. I would NEVER go any cheaper than REI brand. I laughed at a You tuber who said "all tents leak". He must have been a walmart brand guy.
I think it’s an informal video and is spot on. If I’m going to camp and not have hotel room at night I’m looking at buying all that same equipment. Yes like one person said it’s 10k worth of equipment but it’s a life long investment into Adventure and Excitement! To me that’s priceless ✊🏻👌🏻

Here in SW Florida, to say it's hot is an understatement. Picture putting your head in a 200 degree oven and turning a blow dryer on high. That's what it feels like to ride in the summer here. Looking at gear and coming to the realization that there is no gear for this type of environment. But, still considering the Klim Baja, at least the pants for now. No way I can wear a jacket in this heat. Protective shirt and jersey at the most. Thanks for all you do, like the advice.

After 9 months travelling in Central and North America (Went to prudhoe bay) I can say that dont need even the half of the things from those “top” brands, I have been throwing away things since I left home, I carry only 65 littlers and Im still confortable everyday
Just be smart with the things you buy, dont need to buy the most expensive things to have a good trip, better save that money for travelling

I’m giving you a thumbs up because you included things that you did not need to bring. I bring tools, even though I ride a Honda or Kawasaki. I wind up using the tools to help other people.😂 I have a question. Do your sleeping pad slips around with your sleeping bag? I used a Bivy sack and threw my pad in with a nylon sleeping bag and somehow it’s slicker than snot.
Wow so much gear. I reckon you could cut it back. I can’t ride my 690 with too much weight on the rear. Impacts the handling so much it becomes dangerous to ride. Gotta keep things really light with soft panniers low and forward. Less is more. Cheers

Your bike has to be ready for these types of conditions too. Not even a cursory look at the complexity of modern 21st Century machines shows this is no small matter as well. I looked at a Russian "Ural" bike here in SC not long back which had (egads!) "two wheel drive" by way of a sidecar. It was not on sale i guess i would say it wasn't a US made chainsaw either. Anyhow remarkable skill set just to bike on this type of terrain for anything with two wheels let alone something so incredibly engineered as this. Absolutely amazed great content.

Interesting. We just did a 1500+ mile trip to Zion from So Cal camping in the desert. We took the big girls, KTM 1290, 1250GS and a Africa Twin. Had a blast and can’t wait to do it again. Hopefully with more off road next time. All the bikes performed flawlessly except about 90 mph, the MPG just crashes. 😂. I wore Revit dirt series with a base layer. Was perfectly comfortable in 40 to 80f. We have similar camping gear other than all my stuff being Big Agnes. The rechargeable inflater is amazing, one charge inflated everyone’s mattress for four days.

I have one helmet with the latest Cardo and another with the latest Sena. The Cardo I can barely hear above 65mph with earplugs in and the Sena is clear regardless of speed.
I see this is the battleship super dreadnaught version and a super setup. But for those of us on the smaller bikes doing day trips, it would be great if you did a similar video! Like a day trip on your KTM 350. What gear and apparel? For daytrips with my Honda CRF300L for day trips this would be great information.

Go with Kriega rackless. I did a ton of research before finding the best ones for my purpose and these fit best. My purpose being “light is right”. Comes in over 5 lbs lighter than reckless of similar storage size and are damn near bulletproof. Downside is they’re not as modular as the Mosko. I really like that about their design.

Paul from Australia, I have used the XD-4 fantastic soiled helmet, but as I have neck problems need a helmet as light as possible, so I do have the Klim Kros pro as well and agree seems cheaply made ( without the cheap price 😂😂😂) I use a laying system , base layer - Merino wool , Quick dry T- Shirt , wool sooks , Knox Urban pro 2 jacket - abrasion resistant for road as well as off road High CE ratting AA , ( fantastic in heat ) if it’s colder put my Fly racing over the top , it’s wind and water 💧 resistant. If it rains put on my Reviti Dirt series ( 100 % waterproof) pants for more off road are my Knox , but ADV and road My John Doo AAA rated cargo pants ( both jacket and pants have Soft Armour . , water proof over pants if rains for both Enduro and ADV , KNOX gloves ADV / road and MX style gloves for Enduro. Boots Long forma boots for Enduro and day ADV rides and short ADV rides short Forma boots ( as good to walk in )And for Enduro my Forcefield Chest protector .
If you have neck issues, I would highly recommend the Helite Turtle airbag which really protects your neck in the event of a crash.

Ian, love your channel, been a sub for a while. Excellent reviews w/ brutal honesty and it is genuine. I like that. Silly question - how do you clean your riding gear (jacket, pants, liners, etc.)? I do mostly on road riding in Midwest and get very sweaty after a long ride in Summer. Even with armor out of my gear, it is too bulky to just throw into the washing machine & dryer. Plus it’ll potentially damage both the machines and gear. Thanks for your very informative content & reviews even to someone who doesn’t go off-road.
15:57 - I swear by this type of seat cover. Out here in the tropics, it stops your bum from being roasted by a hot seat when the bike is parked under the sun. In the rain, water doesn't collect under your bum either. And at home, it stops stray cats from shredding the seat underneath.
I got the lowly..yet amazingly great cardo spirit, the bottom shelf cardo, but it functions flawless for only 100$ i won't waste my time with ultra cheap comms
I didn't catch which tire inflator he uses. My Slime one is rather large and I am done using a bicycle tire pump, roadside, in gear, in the heat. I'd ditch the sleeping bag liner to save space. I have a nice fleece one, but a down bag should really keep you warm if you use a ground pad. I also carry a tea-light candle lantern. Nothing better than a tiny bit of light in the darkness of solo dispersed camping. I have an AM/FM radio that has a two lights and can charge a phone. Again, a little radio can be a friend when solo or out of cell range.
I make sure I book rooms in advance and only take fresh socks, underwear, sleepwear, toiletries, raingear, tools, spares including a battery and cash. That's it. But nice video Ian.
I’m the same. I’m far more comfortable in a hotel and I’m not in Magadan. There’s always a hotel somewhere in the US. I pack so light. 2 graph base layers, socks, toiletries, a pair of pants, pair of sneakers, underpants, basic tools, rain gear. Basically that’s it.
I do a split, if it’s cold or rainy, I treat myself to a hotel. If it’s nice out, I camp. I’ve found a wide range in hotel prices and knowing I have a tent and sleeping bag/ pad on the back gives me a bit of assurance I’ll always have a place to sleep.

It's darn near a clone of the Mosko Basilisk, and their promo video makes it sound like they've thought of it for years. LOL I have Mosko and Klim, but I'll stick with my Gen 1 Basilisk.

For me the Raptor is the winner. I found the Basilisk to be overbuilt, bulky, ill fitting and noisy. Raptor flows air better, packs a little smaller. Both are priced ridiculously but I got my Raptor for half price.
Both Klim and Mosko need to have a hood on these shell jackets for rain protection when not riding.

Those Mosko panniers a very convenient and nice but extremely heavy especially when you consider the required rack and the pucks they mount to. Probably an easy 20 lbs of weight savings available just by going with a simpler soft rack less pannier set up.
Ian, I loved your video however, I want to take issue with the 'I pack too much food..." your assumption that you can get food along the way is valid only if your bike remains functional. I believe you need to think 'survival" if things go really wrong. I would argue you need at a minimum of three days of food and water. Sure, you can always call help on the Inreach, but should you bet your life on it or yourself?

Having a mind set of survival kit preparedness is good but I would disagree on your recommendation of always having a minimum of 3 days of food. In the desert where water sources may be spare at best having 2 days of water is good yes, but we can all easily survive on less food so snacks enough for 2 days is plenty. Never pass an opportunity to filter and refill water bags if you are low. Most importantly hydration packs or tank bag with water tube so you can easily stay hydrated.
weirdest gear selection ever seen; i guess its cause u‘re us citizens and im from europe. we may have other stuff here. what i highly recommend to check you out are helmets from schuberth. i use the C4 Pro, i dont have any issues with noise (the most silent helmets they build), sena comm. is built in and a sunvisor as well. pinlock includet. im not into the camping stuff, therefor no comment about this. for clothing i recommend the vanucci underwear set and the socks, gtx boots (waterproof + ventilation) and protective trousers and jacket from büse. maybe you have the chance to check this out, i really would like to hear your opinion about it. greetings from austria 🇦🇹

Looking at the EICMA show, have you noticed the Kove 800X/ Super Adventure? It’s looks really interesting with 100 hp and a kerb weight of just 183 kg. I’ll hope you have a chance of getting hold on one and make a review of it.

I'm a fan man, but this is SO over the top for 99% of riders that it's actually comical. And besides that, you are never going to have fun when you have THAT much crap to tote along. If you can't fit everything you need in 30 to 35L, you are carrying too much. And I'm talking a week on the road.
I pack clothes for 3 days , then all that Varies is amount of food and water and fuel packed in ! a week a month a year!😁😉👍

For how expensive Klim is, they should offer superb support as well. Unfortunately, this hasn't been the case. Last year I submitted a warranty claim on a pair of their gloves, which quite literally fell apart within a few rides. They requested documentation, which I provided. They rejected the photos because they were *too large*. After a few back and forths and my offer to host the files so that they could access directly (instead of emailing to their antiquated server), they just stopped responding.
Still wearing their pants and my older gloves, but their new stuff seems to have horrid quality control, and worse customer service than any budget brand, which is a shame.
I recently discovered that the Vanashe GPS mount sticks out too far and covers half the display when standing up . I sometime "peak" down to confirm what gear im in and if not in rally mode it covers the gear selection. wish it was a bout an 1" shorter.
You only realize you've packed too much gear in *retrospect* (even though you might have had suspicions before hand). For each item you didn't use, one could easily imagine situations where you easily might have (perhaps even in a life saving situation). As for the gear, your comment about the protection level of the Badlands Pro's CE rating might be inaccurate--the Rucka Kingsley might exceed that of the Badlands Pro (Chris, "chap in a cap" would know for sure). I've read that John Muir traveled the whole of Yosemite and much of the Sierra Nevada range with only the food and gear he could carry in his jacket pockets. Fortunately, we have other options; and sponsors!

Communications: When will a company design a weather-proof, robust, GMRS radio with a simple bluetooth connection to helmet setups? That would change the game for mobile communications. Stop with all the bluetooth mesh complexity crap and use a radio signal that's functioned flawless for decades. A solid 5-mile range that doesn't quit with a few trees or buildings would be the way to go.
Sounds like the oxbow renegade x radio I keep seeing ads for on my feed. No experience with it yet personally but sounds like it ticks the boxes on your wishlist.
