- Today we are riding the all new 2022 Specialized Status 160 on the awesome trails of Penticton, BC. This isn't a test and barely a first impressions video, but I have to say this bike is ready to get the party started! It was so easy to jump on and get going and it loves railing berms!
Joining me today is Specialized Canada and Freedom Bike Shop.

So fun! Status rips
Oh yeah!
Picking mine up Saturday. Cant wait
Nice, gotta love new bike day!
Man great biking and great music. Got me right after I smoked a fatty 😎👍
Glad you enjoyed it!

I wish my local trails were this nice. My local trails mostly dog crap everywhere due to inconsiderate California hikers. Ever since Covid hit my trails were never the same anymore.
I’m thinking of buying this bike soon
It’s a pretty fun bike!
Sold mine 30 days after I bought it. It could not handle the rocky Arizona terrain. Bottom bracket is low.. Bummer as I liked the mullet set up. Climbed well!
I definitely think it’s more well suited to a gravity fuelled environment. Shuttles, bike park laps, Enduro (although I think there are better choices for that). Every place is different and some bikes suit a zone better than others!
@@letsgoridebikes Agreed I liked the bike, but not for rocky AZ
What’s your initial thought on 160 status? I’m tempted to get one , but not sure about this bike do on climbing.
Climbing is definitely not it’s strong point. It will do it, but you’ll probably be slower and more tired than your buddies.
Does the 140 have enough travel to handle rock gardens and some enduro type of trails? Im deciding between 140 and 160 and plan to do mostly flowy downhill trails and jumps and didnt know what would be better. Also want it to be able to handle some enduro when needed. Wondering what your thoughts are.
....160... 140 for trail bikin
I’d go with the 160 for a more DH and Enduro focussed rider. A couple of the local shop rats ride the 160 and they are shredders!
Did you ride it uphill, or only the downs?
Pretty much only down.
Hi. Question. How do you think this compares to the enduro comp. I'm undecided. I am not into enduro 100% but where I live now, the terrain asks for a big bike. I like aluminum and I like the 160/160. From the enduro that is a 170/170 zeb fork and carbon. Im not thrill with the idea of 170 for going up and I'm not a fan of carbon. I have the impression it is too delicate, all bike shops have carbon frames as trophies...
I should clear this uo. Bike shops have "broken" carbon frames as trophies on their walls...
I haven’t ridden the current model Enduro, but I had a 2018 Enduro Comp (carbon front, aluminum rear) and it was an awesome bike! The Enduro is more about raw speed while the Status is more of a party. The FSR platform pedals well and though I didn’t get any seat time climbing on the Status, it’s a big bike and you will sacrifice pedalling performance for downhill capability. I wouldn’t be afraid of carbon. Bikes and parts fail no matter what they are made of.
Would you choose the 140 model over the 160?
Can’t really say since I didn’t ride the 140 model. There were a couple people in the group who did ride it and it sounded like they enjoyed it!
How would you upgrade the bike to upgrade the climbing capabilities (I don’t know anything about bikes). Thank you in advance
There is a shorter travel version of the bike that will have inherently better climbing characteristics, but I think modifying it to do so would kind of defeat the purpose. It’s meant to be an all around brawler, freeride, party on wheels kind of bike. Modifying it to make it climb better would involve adding lighter weight components, which is both costly and negatively affects durability. If climbing is really important, there are lots of other bikes that do that job better.
