    I've had this bike for a year. Honestly been great. Sliced the rear tire after a week so upgraded to maxxis DD casing. No issues other than that. It's always fun to upgrade bikes, but when you compare this to the Santa Cruz bronson or similar, it's surprising how similar the geo on the status is (relatively speaking) but so much cheaper. Of course different bikes ride differently and suspension platforms make a big difference too... I've just had a hard time talking myself away from an upgrade because this is just such a good value.

      Are you happy with the size? I typically ride a size Large as I'm 6' with longer arms. However, I see the reach on the Status S4 is crazy long.. Wondering if I should try the S3 as the reach is more similar to the size Large bikes I've owned...

      @Jordan Wurmlinger ah nice I've seen a lot of people mention them actually. Bit of a toss up between the status, capra or one of them tbh. I think it'll just be a case of pick one and get over it, maybe I'm looking into it too much lol

      @@jordanwurmlinger4183 Just seeing this but whatever. I was on an S3/Medium and thought it was good. I pedaled a S2 around in the parking lot and felt it was a little small. I actually sold it (was happy with it, just like to keep trying different bikes) and the new bike is a little shorter at 455 reach (as opposed to 462 in S3). Cheers!

    I've had the status 140 for 7 months now and have had zero issues with anything on the bike. Haven't had any creaks either. And I ride the shit out of it too. Definitely hasn't been ridden lightly. Learned 360s on it, road double blacks in Sedona, bottomed out super hard on big drops and jumps, all that and it still preforms soo well. I think the leaking of the fork in this video was just being unlucky. Only thing that may be an issue so far, I think the derailleur clutch has weakened, so heavy landings on big drops or jumps tend to make noise from chain slap. Thought this might be helpful for anyone looking to buy the bike 🤙

    There actually is a low speed compression adjuster. It is a 4 position adjuster. If you look in the shock manual/ schematic it shows it. I have one of these on my '22 stumpy Evo alloy. You can pop off the little black cap where the adjuster should be (it's a little scary the first time, I used some Pedro's levers to pop it off) and turn the dial. It's not obvious unless you already know

    Great review. I've had this bike for just over a year and it's awesome value. The butcher tyres let me down a couple times so they were the first upgrade. I had the same oil leak on the rythm fork after some bigger hits but all good after a service. The nx rear mech is poor and will be the next upgrade. Code r brakes need a regular bleed if you like them precise. This is a burly bike and worth every penny.

    Great bike for downhill and it loves to fly. Minimal effort to clear jumps that are sketch on my other bike. Not easy to climb though. Built for parks. Like other Status owners the first change is the tires. On more then one occasion the rear tire almost folded off the rim with high, med, and low air pressure. NX rear derailleur sucks and the cassette on mine comes loose often causing rattling back end. None of this is the bikes fault it's the components. Happy trails yawl.

    I would definitely skip this bike and go for the Evo. It's heavy, raked out, the Code R breaks went to the bars after the second ride needing a complicated bleed, and the wheelset is crap, and let's not talk about those shitty tires. Sold it after 6 months and never looked back.

    I’m 6‘2“ and 190 pounds I find that the butcher that came on my Evo Evo slides around underneath me pushing in the berms. If you compare the S6 Evo to the status S5, at 6‘4“ how much do you think the size difference makes? And do you know if specialized is coming out with an S6 version of the status?

    • @vitalmtb

      i'd say doubtful on S6 status, but who knows. jonny's stumpjumper is S5, too. he said for the tigher, more tech riding in phoenix, that's what he prefers. if he was in a place with faster, less-twisty terrain, he'd consider the S6

    Gotta say DW link Ripmo AF full deore. slx brakes and DVO suspension with good wheels for $300 more. NX is mediocre. Spesh is known for nickle and diming on components. Bigger riders need to run the 2.6 tires.

      @@vitalmtb what? 🤣 Deore is utter garbage. I’d rather have no groupset and a discount than have to pay for a not fit for purpose groupset that I’d have to replace with the first 6 months anyway. I don’t like seeing NX ether but it’s way better than deore.

    I still cannot fathom WTF companies put this sort of casing (EXO+/Grid Trail, etc) as a REAR tyre on bigger travel bikes...IMO it creates a lot of damage and misinformation amongst consumers too. Le-sigh. That grid Gravity is very tough, I mean it's no SuperGravity, but man as a 73kg rider, touch wood, no inserts needed at ~25PSI.

    • @Earlysport
      @Earlysport 2 роки тому +1

      @cuanlohrentz I run Schwalbe Evo casing Magic Mary’s on my DH bike, and they’ve survived 9 days Of Whistler black and double black tech and 4 days of Thredbo cannonball with not a single flat or dented rim. I run cushcore XC inserts. But then again my Demo DH bike weighs 32.5lbs, and I weigh 75kg and know how to ride light, so horses for courses I’d say. Don’t believe all the hype telling you that 1.2kg tyres are the be all and end all.

    • @CuanL
      @CuanL 2 роки тому

      @@Earlysport I'm note believing shit :P But it's unrealistic to expect most people to #ridelight and an the mass diff between light casing+insert over tougher and more reliable casing is rather marginal in any case. The Grid Gravity are not as heavy as SG sure so not at the 1.2kg mark anyway. But in general...lugging around a little extra mass instead of having to stop and plug a tyre is wholeheartedly a better idea for most weekend worriers ;)

    • @th_js
      @th_js 2 роки тому

      @@Earlysport Evo casing? That doesn't exist. "Evo" means that the tyre has Schwalbe's highest technology available, nothing to do with the thickness of the casing. So which casing is it?

      I have a theory, may be wrong, but here you go: Keep the catalog weight low. Looks good on paper, but to you get to the point where your bike can withstand some beating on rocky-rooty tracks, you add at least 1kg to the stock weight.
