I have a move that is similar to this but i do it in isolation, I've never seen it from outside though since I don't have access to a floor to ceiling mirror and looking in windows doesn't really give the full effect. I know you're a busy guy Nick but it would be nice to see you perform it as you are much more fluent than me. The part of the move that I'm having trouble with is the transition above my head from left to right and down, I cant seem to keep the poi in isolation and perfect split time. I think as my hands come closer to each other in the transition I'm either not moving them across and down quickly enough or having them part again too late or early. It's also possible that I'm messing up the positions of my planes inside or outside my arms. I'm not quite sure, please let me know if you would be interested in making a video of this move and maybe I can find a way to get a video to you.
Is it possible to keep the buzzaw entirely in between the arms? Notice that there is one beat up where the yellow is outside and one beat down where the orange poi is outside. Thought it'd be cool for the buzzaw effect to keep it in buzzaw mode at all times.
Also, would you please tell me if you head to Japan before August? I'm attending school in Hirosaki, and I'd love to meet you if you pass through. We've got the Iwakisan volcano here (dormant), and it's just an amazing view from below while the summit is often in the clouds. You're way more skilled than me, but maybe we can have some fun with each other! On the 5-beat weave (which completely rocked my world), I met someone at a festival who told me of 7, 9, and 11 beat weaves. Have you ever tried any of that? The 7-beat wraps around the forearm before crossing over to the other side. And the reverse is so dang easy once the forward 7-beat is learned! 9 and 11, as I was told and shown, requires longer strings and possibly stilts.
if it werennt for the people moving in the back ground I`d say the landscape was just a picture... the clouds were so stiff... that was mi side-comment... great explanation! thank you!! :)

But it's one of my favorite-feeling moves to date (after a little more than a year of spinning). Nick is also very correct about how 4x4 fountains feel amazing. And blending these two, whether going from 4x4 to buzzsaw, or buzzsaw to 4x4, is not only an awesome feeling of transition, but it is also a change in the visual complexity to go from 4 larger circles to 5, 6, 7, or 8 smaller circles in the same diameter. And the reverse from complex to simple gives a different pace and emotion to the viewer.
I went outside and tried buzzsaws after watching the video but it's practically impossible with steel chains. :( I guess I'll just have to learn other tricks.
Do you have any sock poi? I've got sock, pod, and fire poi with rope, but when I practice and when I just want to have fun, nothing feels better than sock poi. Nothing hurts less when I hit myself than sock poi. And nothing helps me to do ALL moves that I practice better than sock poi.
Not on hand. But some fishnet stockings and tennis balls, a few sets of pantyhose inside each other with racquetball balls, interfolded socks inside stockings... I like my spandex ones that I got from playpoi (like the ones Nick has, but zebra-striped) because they have juuuust a little flex when I want them to flex, and it's very easy to shorten/lengthen them.
