I was 3. Silver Tongue Devil & I along with the Why Me Lord albums were the very first exposure to the love affair I’ve had with music my entire life. There was a third LP as well thrown in that equation but that was the infamous Simon & Garfunkel Greatest Hits LP. Wore these records out and just a toddler. It was my grandparents music played on one of these big old cabinet record players over and over again. Lol

I love Kris but if you listen to his full repertoire you can hear a lot of expressions and chord changes repeated. He repeats himself a lot. His work can also be very sentimental rather than deep. What I love most about hid work is his tenderness and humour. The best? Bob Dylan for range and Leonard Cohen for depth, insight and the beauty of his lyrics. Still love Kris though.

II agree to disagree with Willie, in my opinion Jimmy Webb was better, but Kris is definitely one of my favorite song writers, and he was such a humble and super friendly guy, and he never would conform to the Music Industry. I hope he is writing songs and playing music with all the great musicians that have passed away somewhere in the clouds.

Love’s Fuck Yous, One Twos, and Black & Blues - Lyrics by Jimmy Elliott
No matter how hard I fight it… or how much that I think.
I can’t ever find me a good reason… not to take another drink.
My mama don’t understand it, and people can’t see how I feel.
That drinkin’ is the truth ‘n forces everyone who’s lyin’ to become real.
We are who we are… even if we don’t know or understand it.
But if you want to get to know me… crack a can and let’s shoot the shit.
I’ve never been a good marksman, I’ve always lost my aim.
And I feel like the only one who knows… that love and life is a game!
I don’t know when I lost it, and “it” being my shame.
But Jimmy is my name, we’re the same, ‘n all I need is another beer, and a dame.
They say that “life is long, and love sure is fleeting.”
But if we can somehow, let’s forget that for now, and all take another beating!
You can say I’m a punk, or a fool who’s just love drunnnnk.
But love and beer have always lifted me up, no matter what, or how low that I’ve sunk…
So go on, hit me… c’mon baby, throw another punch!
No hard feelings and tomorrow… let’s have mimosas with our black eyes over brunch!
Then we can do it again, and then remember when,
You were mine and I was yours, before you loved and left me for the other men.
Your love sure is chaos; it’s hysterical, and baby you are a riot.
But there’s nothing better than being hurt, but don’t take my word, go on honey and try it!
It’s only a matter of time, before you lose and are left with a bruise
But like all things fade, ours will too, we all know that’s old news!
But I don’t carrrreee, I will still be herrreee
      Laughing; drinkin’;
      Listenin’ to your “fuck yous!”
      duckin’ your ones twos
and singin’ bout our love’s blacks N’ blues!

Same… I met him at of all things a political event for a politician I didn’t even like… backstage we struck up a conversation - I had a press pass - and had a long chat ending with hugs-- unexpected and treasured - I cant explain even before this meeting how many hours I spent listening to his music - getting me thru some lonely nights….the words hitting my soul…. Don’t think any other song writer has ever hit me with this power again…. He was truly a living musical instrument and his songs and words will live with me for the rest of my life…. Truly the greatest song writer ever…I agree Willie!!!!!

About three weeks ago I sent the link to this song to my wife, writing: "Beautiful song. It made me think of you." She wrote back: "Now you did it -- you made me cry. I love you Kev with all my heart." She passed away last week after a sudden heart attack. We played the song at her service yesterday.
I gather Kris is going through some difficult health issues. I wish I could tell him how much this song means to me now and how much it will mean to me for the rest of my life..

Kevin, I'm so sorry for your loss. I have a love in my life, that if she was taken away, I would pray that I be taken also, the void would be too great. I also gave a small gift to her that says it all, in the same way your song to your wife says the way you feel about her. I gave her a coffee cup with a painting of two cute dogs on it, with their noses touching each other, with love in their eyes and a shape of a love heart floating above them. The caption above reads " loving you is what I do best "

He flew helicopters in the Army, tought literature at West point, and could have been a professor at Oxford where he studied literature, but thank God he chose to write and sing music. This guy is a poet. The way his lyrics sound so simple is not a sign that the lyrics are simple. He has a way of making every song fit every story - sunday morning / darby's castle / bobby mcGee / lovin' her . . / - pick the song, the words just seem to fall together so easily . . . This is not a simple task, it is the sign of a true poet. "well I woke up Sunday mornin' with no way to hold my head that didn't hurt; and the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad so I had one more for dessert . . . Eminem would take that rhyme gladly!!

Farewell, Kris Kristofferson. He had it ALL: looks, brains, a genius songwriter, and a legit actor. His voice was rugged and untrained - yet it was right for HIM. And to say that he had a good time would be a TOTAL. UNDERSTATEMENT.

But somehow it didn’t destroy him! Too much formal education can destroy creative people. It can turn them into imitators. He wrote songs out of his own life experiences and that’s why he was so good. Dylan dropped out of college in his first year and went to NYC and became a genius songwriter. Johnny Cash didn’t go to college at all. Country music at its best is music about real life.

I saw him at at the stage coach festival, He filled in for Loretta Lynn. That couldn't make, He came out on stage all by yourself. A guitar and a hermonica. He was only supposed to be on stage for about forty five minutes, An hour and a 1/2 later. They started blinking the lights telling him he had to quit. He talked to the audience And most of the songs he sang were ones he wrote. He made you feel like it was a one on one experience,,,, It was awesome.

He was a Rhodes scholar, an army helicopter pilot, and great songwriter, and singer of songs. His songs will touch your heart in a way you never thought possible.
