nothing about this animation is simple. animation takes incredible time and skill, even with simple character models. One thing I hate most about the anime fandom (not saying you do this) but they act like animation is easy somehow. Even this animation with simple character models is incredibly difficult and requires a life time of experience.

because it's so "simple" , there is a lot of clarity and smoothness of the action , it flow and it doesn't get overwhelming in a sense you get bombarded with colors and blurs, but by motion and intent , a thing that kinda make me think some anime just feel high quality but in truth it's just a sensory fog that make you unable to process and make you think"Wow it's impressive" , sometimes it work well and make sense, like when you want to give the feeling that what you are seeing is beyond your ability to perceive, but at time it just feel bad and short cutty
It's exactly the reason why JJK changed artstyle for season 2
Also in "Combat gods" the camera angle mostly stay the same in the view that would make the fight easier to consume

The problem is that part 1 wasnt just references but straight up 1:1 copied. Almost everything was copied from different anime and other stick animations. But he more than redeemed himself with part 2 which was all selfmade with a small team.

That, the bridge scene, eldest uncles vs Sanchu, or Xuan vs Wrath would all be gas. Lin Hun is easily the best action animator alive rn when it comes to choreography and pacing.
If you like the OST used throughout most of the fight it's from a show called RWBY, created by Monty Oum from Rooster Teeth. He was the one who created "Haloid" way back in OG UA-cam and was a god tier animator. The first 2 seasons of RWBY were worked on by him before he passed away and the fight scenes in those seasons are crazy good with amazing OST to back them up. Definitely give the show a watch sometime or even do a reaction to it.

it is a fight without a story , imagine what will be the backstory
That wolf fang fist scene was my favorite
The problem is that this took 3 years to make, and it’s a single fight. But what’s even harder for anime is that this has not much details apart from movement and little effects. Animating real characters, facial expressions, clothes movement and area details is sooo long that it’s quite impossible to have that much quality for an anime, or you’d have to wait more than a decade.
It didn't take 3 years to make, more like months considering jhanzou said he'll stop animating for a while after a lot of hates received for copying Naruto's animations, the second part has no copied but more like inspired, although aside from that you're right, doing stickman animation is easier than a detailed character fighting

Only till Combat Gods did people realise how cool these stickfigure fights are.
I still remember the haydays of Stickpage and seeing individual projects like Killing Spree, Shock, and etc. Then all the Hyun's Dojo people pinning their oc's together and these animations were always so good - choreographed so well and this media is being recognized by more and more people.

I honestly have no doubt if this Combat God was only an intro for an actual one with actual story line.
But instead it will be more focused on Red and not Yellow, and we will get to finally see why Red desires to Get something from the higher dimensional beings(Gods) through his fight with Yellow

The Stick man you probably saw as a kid was "Xiao Xiao stickiman fighting" I remember that to as well, specially the cool gun and knive play.

i think i got a theory about Jun (the red one) notices that Jun after winning doesnt looks hurt its because he can give the pain to his clones because everytime he got damaged he used his clones to give the pain to the clones, Jun is a genious
and about shinji (the Yellow one) he cannot heal himself because he cannot create clones like you see after he defeat Jun on the 1st combat gods video he walk out wounded not like Jun
The red one is trying to save his brother and the yellow is trying to save his trip

Alan Becker was probably the guy you watched originally and the series he made is called animator vs animation. I really recommend watching it all from start to finish.
I love the redemption, the animator totally made up for it on part 2, but knowing part 1 was traced makes the things said so much funnier. Let me be clear I love all of this persons work. The controversy was more than made up for.

the animator, after combat gods 1, admitted to tracing and profiting from it, which is why he took longer to do the part 2 because he did it all from scratch, with just now referencing instead of directly copying from scene to scene.
