Great video! The FT-817/FT-818 does not recognize which type of filter you install, so you select SSB or CW in the advanced menu. This SSB filter is narrower than the standard IF-filter for both SSB and CW. So if you select CW optional filter in the advanced menu, you can use this filter too in CW mode. And yes - for CW this filter is a great improvement too. Unlike when SSB is selected as optional filter, the CW selection will let you use this filter/stock filter, by just one press on the "NAR"-button in the fast menu. I think this SSB filter is a very good choice, as it enhances both SSB and CW reception. Best 73. Einar.
I think I you just saved me a couple hundred dollars. The sound improvement was slight, but not enough for me to make that kind of investment. If I can score one on the used market for song, I will pick one up. Thanks again for another great video. Keep them coming.
I noticed a slight difference when I installed one. I bought a Collins last year for 79.99 new from HRO. When I sold my 818 I pulled it out and had it for sale on the HRCC discord for months with little interest. Guess they are now “sought after”
How well does it work to eliminate adjacent signals? I find the stock pass band on SSB is much wider than 3KHz. While improved audio would be nice, I 'd also like some improved selectivity to knock down the QRM from stations +/-3KHz away. 73
I would say it has a very poor pass band. But then again, I’m not doing contesting. Overall, it does a good job at six Watts, and with some headphones will do the job.
There is a CW filter for this radio. I would search the web on that. I believe you install it the same way and I don't think you can have two filters in the radio.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll listen to some CW and listen.

You had the CW filter option too in the menu. Did you install that as well? Are they 3 different separate filters? TXCO-9, CW 500, and the SSB filter?
I'd love to see how that filter compares to the aftermarket/add-on DSP boards for the 817/818.

Its a softer presentation in the audio. A quieter cleaner sound.

👌😍 I'm looking for cw filter, compact or in kit now. Have you an idea and à vidéo too, for this 2 solutions ? Tks. 73&88. Fab.

For the age of the circuit pwb, it won't help much. Nice review I would pass on that filter...
