Being ex-RAF I have to say the Spitfire which went through many a transformation but the P-51 is an Awesome Aircraft and between the two got Air superiority over Europe and won the Air War . How ever the Merlin engine has a sound like no other . The Germans on the other hand had the ME-109 and the FW-190 again very awesome aircraft and lets not forget the ME-262 which was way ahead of it's time . The only other aircraft that may have opposed it was the Meteor but there was never a combat meet .
