Greatings from germany ;) my older Sister has an W124 too, as Cabrio. Like this with over 1 Million Kilometers, but everythink works, nothing is broken. And less dirt.
Germans drove the hell outta these things, then us Albanians bought them in late 90s early 00s. These old Mercs were imported from Germany or Italy (mostly W123 & W124) which they served us very well, and they’ll go down in history as legends. Looks like Africa it’s collecting every old Merc from Balkan😂(and other brands too). I own a 2006 Toyota Yaris now i imagine it being used still after like 20 years in Africa😂
It pains me to see such a noble car in this derelict condition. With proper care, it'd certainly be in a better shape than this, and no, I'm not talking about expensive care/maintenance products that might be lacking there. With just some basic respect for the car, this vehicle would look much better with 1 million kms, whether in Germany, or in Congo DR. You can tell just from seeing the overall state of the car, that many of the scratches, missing pieces, and other details such as the dirty interior reflect the mentality of the driver and its occupants. My own father bought a brand new Volvo 145 Estate in 1972, and 37 years later in 2009, at the time of selling, the car looked almost as it did when it rolled out of the dealership, and it also had reached nearly a million kms. It did have some obvious signs of having been used for many years, but my father always made sure it would receive as little damage as possible. And no, we weren't rich by any means, and it's been used for work and driven in rural environments for decades, but we still treated it with care and consideration, knowing how important of a work tool it was to us. This is not an environmental issue, it's a cultural one.
It is about how Germans and other countries export cars with the wrong Umweltplakette to African countries. It also goes about e waste in Africa. European countries see African countries as waste disposal. Some drive these cars until they are broken and then sell them for export to Africa.
@@Canleaf08 I can guarantee to you that the cars reaching African countries certainly are not falling apart at the moment of arrival. They might have obvious tear and wear from extensive use and high mileage but the European standards for maintenance are some of the highest in the world, which means an used car that no longer passes inspection is still very usable in many parts of the world, but the people shown in the video sure do everything within reach to ruin the overall integrity as quickly as possible. I've been working in the automotive industry for several years now, and I can tell you MB were engineered with the mentality of long-lasting service AS LONG AS their owners maintain the vehicles. They're constructed with the idea that a MB with basic care would have a longer life than most other brands with the same basic care, they weren't engineered to be mistreated and beaten by any means. Any engine and its mechanical components will end up breaking down with enough misuse, MBs are no exception. The people shown in this video simply lack the education to maintain their valuable work element, and the consequences are shown.
This is my absolute dream car. When the W124s were current I couldn't afford one and now the cars are too old. In the 1990s, this Mercedes was the standard cab here in Germany and could be seen everywhere. Today, I turn around and look sadly after it when I see one from time to time.
I disagree with saying they're too old, their styling is timeless, and even high milage examples, albeit ones that were taken care of and aren't anything close to the one in this video, are still reliable, comfortable, and capable cars. Coming from modern cars, and buying a w124 with 184.5k miles, the driving experience has been a breath of fresh air, there's just no bs to these old cars, they just drive, I love it.
I work in the hospital, see taxis every day and 80% of them are still Mercs. There is one super old one I see regularly. Gotta ask the driver how many km are on it.
@@Maximum_777 They're more project cars now, and if you're buying a car for fun it's best to buy a top model, the 2.5 cosworth. Which is expensive and worse then the E30 M3.
Ein richtiges Schlachtschiff. Im zunehmend autofeindlichen Deutschland wird es einem immer schwerer gemacht, solch ein Auto zu unterhalten, vor allem die Dieselversion.
I love these old, high-quality Mercedes cars, and even Volvo cars today are happy that they can even drive 100,000 km before, quality was still in the first place 👌🏻😉
Real question : why are cars in Africa in so bad shape ? Like you see cars in Europe with 1 million km that are not so bad. Why is everything broken inside ? Like normal use does not damage the car so much
Nothing special for a W124, we even have some in Austria with that mileage. A friend of mine has one with the same mileage and he only fills up fuel with old oil from oil changes (300D) and that car will never die.

Cars in Europe: eeewwwww oil change 100km passed. I'm not working anymore.
Cars in Africa: I can work without oil boss.
W124 after 1 million looks like new! here is maybe 3-4 millions :D
I'm watching this video in St. Petersburg in Russia, I just have one question. Why don't they repair and wash cars in Africa?
@oguzhanozbayram501 I understand. It is sad.
Because every car turns into a Lada once they arrive to the DRC.
They dont have water to wash it
0 cash ! I’m from Russia to 😅
There is Sand every where. They drive everyday rather in most Europe those Cars sits in Garage 😂
I would recommend to Mercedes to build the w124 nowadays the same way as they did back in the old days but new, I'd totally buy one

As a German it breaks my heart to see this car in such a poor condition. You still see them sometimes on the autobahn
Firing order is a merely a friendly suggestion.
Strong Mercedes engine needs no air filter.
I wonder what the compression is on that thing.
Considering how long it took to start up not much
It has the "Deutschland Sticker" on its back. It'll drive for 1Mio more kilometres bru
Only now is the engine properly run-in...😉

Whenever I see a car anywhere in this state, I think how the hell have they managed to neglect it they badly..
