Another good and quick way to check if your nut isn’t cut properly is to capo 1st fret. If the guitar suddenly plays much nicer, it needs some attention.

It has a bridge humbucker, middle and neck hot rails and a VH like flush to the body mounted Floyd Rose. I play so many styles on it and I absolutely fell in love with this guitar. Cort were already great 15 years ago but nowadays they're really going the extra mile. No wonder PRS has their SE's manufactured by Cort.
I have just returned mine to Thomann, and asked for a replacement - it played GREAT, but finish/assembly flaws were unacceptable, even for this price range: totally messed up neck pocket geometry, "skewed" or crooked bridge humbucker, bridge was not assembled properly (or the bridge undercut was off - visually bridge vs body did not align properly). I was so disappointed because of the raving reviews online. Now that I got my replacement I can only say to stay away from Cort: 1. Wobbly trem arm - wiggles in the socket, even tightened 2. Wiring!!! Neck pickup does not split in position 4!!! - problem with the switch (intermittent contact), switch needs replacement. I checked wiring against Cort diagram and it is ok - problem is in the switch. 3. Misaligned string tree - not in line with strings 4. I’m getting one. Recent Cort Convert. Took a trade for an old Samick Semi, the Cort GTD16 which has blown me away with the quality, playability and tone. HSS, Alnico pickups and a blow out switch.
Cort guitars are quite popular down my neck of the woods. I only own one of their basses though; I like it a lot! Their electric guitar usually don't interest me, but the roasted maple neck has caught my attention!
I remember seeing those Cort ads with Matt “Guitar” Murphy of Blues Brothers fame in the 80’s and 90’s. They were so cheesy at the time, being mostly traditional style guitars that everyone loves now.
Check nut slots with assistance from a tuner. Tune an open E. Pay the F next to it. If the F is sharp, cut the slots until it isn't. This the last step after relief, string height, and length are set. Do all slots like that, and every note on the guitar will be dead on. An F chord will sound like an F chord.
Cort has always made good guitars. I had a Samic SG back in the day that was a great guitar. The problem with Cort is they don’t have any big box and very few independent store distribution. Other issue is for $750 you can get a Charvel, Fender, Jackson, PRS or other “name brand” guitars. Cort needs to partner with Zzounds or American Music for distribution or even becoming the house brand like Michael Kelley or Harley Benton. Harley Benton has circumvented distribution issues by being incredibly priced, which in the buy to play retail environment we’re in now has helped their branch become a household name for guitar players.
What do you mean by “small neck”? Narrow nut width? I neeeed nut width measurement, as well as and 1st/12th fret thickness measurements to compare and get a better idea. Thanks!
I have seen a couple of other reviews of the same guitar...they all love it. Almost all guitars have some minor nut/bridge/neck issues out of the box...the nut slots are a minor thing and probably not even relevant if it does not affect tuning. The pickups and the locking tuners are what do it for me - you just don't find to many guitars under $1K with these specs.

I like electric guitars and have a few of them but one thing I don't like about electric guitars is how you have to go through an inspection and setup process with every guitar you get. With something like a keyboard you just plug it in and play, which is nice.
I have the g290 fat and I certainly prefer the woods and look to it over the g300 but I would love to see some of the specs such as 24 frets, stainless steel frets and SD pick-ups added to my g290. I had a Cortez les paul copy when I was much younger in the late 70's thru early 80's and that guitar was killer. I unfortunately had to sell it during a bit of a financial struggle. That guitar played and sounded great. it was sort of light for a les paul style. The cap was carved, it was crowned and bound nicely and I'm thinking it was a bit chambered under the top. The guitar had incredible sustain. I read somewhere that Cortez was in fact the first incarnation of Cort guitars. I'm not sure that's true but that was a nice guitar. I have tried to buy another but when ever i stumble onto one it's either over priced or not in very good shape. I could buy a used CR series used in great shape with a case for 300 or less.

Hey Phil, looking forward to seeing a review on that Floyd Rose Del Mar in the background. Bit of an odd character, haven't ever seen one in person. Excited to see you review it!
That versatile pickup wiring is used on more and more guitars. I believe the inner / outer coil setting works best with 24 fret guitars because the pickups are closer together than on 22 fret guitars. I don't understand why PRS doesn't implement it on their SE guitars.
Had to leave Braun’s video because he couldn’t say what kind of Duncan pickups they were, like they’re all the same wth!? Thanks for going into that detail as the website just said SD pickups no specifics. I like my rg selector switch, it does 1 bridge, 2 both humbuckers coil split and in parallel, 3 both humbuckers in series, 4 neck split by itself, and 5 neck in full. I like because you get neck in 4 positions! Mine is a whole lotta humbucker neck and a dimebucker in the bridge
SS frets are great...unless the ends are protruding. Much more effort to grind them down, smooth and polish. Didn't see clearly if the trem is floating? Looks great in black imho. Basswood is a great tone wood. That neck is awesome looking. Thanks for an interesting video 👍😎 👍😎❤🖖
The Charvel DK24 will have more options for strat and tele-like tones since it has the additional switch to go between series and parallel for the pickups. From reviews of other guitars (check Daryl Braun's review of the Charvel So Cal Tele) and other info I'd expect the Charvel to have neck/fret treatment that is exceptional (as opposed to just very good on the Cort) and the Charvel's tremolo would also be very highly rated. If you mainly use humbucker sounds and aren't good enough / fussy enough to appreciate an exceptional neck then save some money and buy the Cort. If like plenty of single coil-type sound options and/or would appreciate outstanding neck and fretwork, save for the Charvel and you'll probably never want to upgrade. I don't think either would be a "wrong" choice for most people. But watch some more reviews to help you decide.
@@Baggmanau bought a brand new charvel dk24, the neck was phenomenal, the gotoh 510 was one of the most solid bridges ive ever played on. Had to return that guitar due to defect electronics, bought a second one that was also brand new and the guitar seems to have been misrouted as the bridge pickup was so high it pushed on the strings, tried to lower the pickup and it would not budge. I’ve previously played the DK and loved it, I’ve been sold on Charvel for so long but as of recent with the QC issues I’ve personally experienced I would pass. As far as frets go, I’ve played guitars that retail for 500$-600$ that have had considerably better fret jobs than the Charvel I received
@@iangray9791 Good info Ian - thanks for sharing. Many reviewers have said very good things - maybe they get guitars that have been thoroughly checked or maybe you were unlucky. But either way it sounds as though Charvels (like many brands) are best bought through a local retailer rather than from some distant online store.
For a few notes there, I thought you were headed into the opening guitar for Faith (George Michael). lol I was so surprised...then I realized I was mistaken. lol Gorgeous guitar...sounds like an $800 guitar. Very useful review. Thanks!
Got 3 Cort guitars. My g290 fat model is my go to. I also have a cr100 that I got back circa 1999 as a kid. The cr100 is not playable at all. The humbuckers are bad, the switch is playing up, the buzzing is hard to control and needs a proper set up (if I ever get to changing the humbuckers and have a look at the wiring). My 290 fat model plays so well though and my sfx acoustic is also nice to play and beatiful to look at. So to summarize. I got a shit cort guitar as a kid, but maybe it was a one off bad product or they were not as good guitar manufacturers back then. I kept it only for its sentimental value. Now I am eyeing x700 to get :)
Hey Phil super cool guitar and a super cool review there but you didn't talked much about the bridge and trem system how is it? Is it able to stay in tune after flutters and all that kind of stuff?
Hey Phil, I just picked up a cort 300x body which I’m modding out. The body was completely stripped of parts so no control cavity plates. I’ve searched every where for them with no luck. Planning on crafting my own out of wood. Would there be a way you could email me trace template I could print out to use as a guide? I know your super busy just a shot in the dark. Thanks love the content, always learning new things.
? Is the tremolo base plate and block as thick as a retail Gotoh 510? I had an AZ with an OEM Gotoh, and the base plate was thinner and when I swapped it for a Fishman Powerbridge with a thick plate, the guitar felt more solid and responsive.
I'm not that sold on the sounds, at least through youtube. But that neck and the overall spects seem fine to me. I'm glad Cort jumped into the fusion superstrat boat.
Grrr right when I think ok I’m good I don’t need a guitar, you do this review and now I want a Cort. I’ve seen some in stores before I moved and I didn’t think they were made of wood. It was just so stupidly light lol
Was that an F type wiggle stick? Don't use them, and would lock it down. Were the tuners locking? Looked like it but you didn't mention it, I don't think anyway? What size were the frets? You measured them but never said the size? Just a couple Q's. great review!!! 8) JMHO --gary

I have had my Cort LP for many years now.... I would not swap it for a Gibson! And, yes, I have played a few Gibsons!
SS frets are great...unless the ends are protruding. Much more effort to grind them down, smooth and polish.
Didn't see clearly if the trem is floating?
Looks great in black imho.
Basswood is a great tone wood.
That neck is awesome looking.
Thanks for an interesting video 👍😎
👍😎❤🖖
Some of the Ibanez guitars are made at the same plant as cort
honest question, how do you feel this compares to the charvel dk 24 HH? im stuck picking between the 2
I hope we can get an answer for this 🥺
Same
The Charvel DK24 will have more options for strat and tele-like tones since it has the additional switch to go between series and parallel for the pickups.
For a few notes there, I thought you were headed into the opening guitar for Faith (George Michael). lol I was so surprised...then I realized I was mistaken. lol
Gorgeous guitar...sounds like an $800 guitar.

From Leo: I took two CORT guitars in on trade. An X2 Vyper and an M600. Both are pretty good guitars.
Great video!
Hey Phil, great vid. Not related, but what is that Ibanez 7 behind you? Older MIJ RG7420 or RG7620?
These are out already?

Great video man! Please review the cort g290 fat ii if possible, cheers 🤘
Was that an F type wiggle stick? Don't use them, and would lock it down. Were the tuners locking? Looked like it but you didn't mention it, I don't think anyway? What size were the frets? You measured them but never said the size? Just a couple Q's. great review!!! 8) JMHO --gary
Hey there, Phil! Hope you are doing alright!
