Released in November 2008, Mirror's Edge is an experiment on a new perspective for games a'la Prince of Persia - a first-person parkour video game. At this past Awesome Games Done Quick, $1,025,000 was raised for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. It only took a week of continuous streaming, 18,000 donors, and many many runners to achieve. God I feel really sorry for that guy Daniel..
Well if you see daniel is playing on the hardest difficulty of the game which basically takes your vision mode, basically makes you see key objects you can use to do your route. While daniel took it off making him do the run a bit more challenging and makes it look alot more difficult.
Christian Jimenez "vision mode" aka "runner vison" doesn't help them in any way.

It is a good thing Faith isn't real. The Olympic athletes and villains everywhere would be screwed.
Well what Faith is able to do is scientifically possible, but I don't know anyone who can do what she does.
Im going to have to call you on that one. If a person tried to do a wallrun, then turn and leap to another building 30 feet away im afraid its time for a dirt nap.
Speaking more in terms of endurance and basic parkour techniques I mean...

I love watching speed runs of this game, it's incredibly fun to watch even though I've never played it.
Just over four years later and I still watch this speed run and I have been for the past 4 years
Its odd, there are faster runs of this game now but I have watched this video so many times, probably 20 times now, just so entertaining.

But i agree, Daniel made a plain mistake so early and then it's natural behaviour, if you can choose - you follow the one ahead of the pack.
even after donkey beat the game no one payed attention to his run - which lead to that he eventually gave up because it made no sense anymore :-(
Let it be on record that if I were ever to give semi-serious speedrunning a try, it would have to be on this game. I just gotta go fast.

They really shoulda waited till 2017 to release it. The speedrunning part of the game is almost completely gone. Catalyst is NEARLY as competitive as ME1

My favorite speedrun to watch
I loved having the feeling of running between buildings and being able to do things that only happen in our dreams.
That was an extremely fun to watch speed run. i was surprised by the amazing flow of moves. I thought it would be slow and laggy, but the flow is better than the actual game, hahaha. The donation from the development team was extremely cool.

I've only played this game a couple times and by no means speed ran it but the atrium was totally the most beautiful and fun room for me in the whole game

in my mirrors edge playthrough i kicked every single server -_-
In my casual playthrough, I actually did that out of bounds at around 6 minutes.
It feels sad to hear these guys so excited and hopeful about catalyst before release and we realized how.....really not so great it it turned out. Would actually love to know what Oven Donkey thinks about Catalyst.

why was one dude playing with the red help details turned off and the other had them on? I mean... there was red at parts on the left screen then no red where there was red on the right at other times

Any reason why Daniel had the red objective textures off whilst ovendonkey had them on?
U can switch them in the settings
It might have been one was used to running with them off for events where the red obj textures isn't the route they wanna go whereas the other runner is used to running with it on.
Probably they forgot to turn them off or don't care. It doesn't really mess with their runs, as they have the routes memorized

i thought that was the 2014 teaser video, i didn't realise there was a date announced, i wrote that comment after they were talking about the teaser xD
the server room is one of the easiest and most fun in my opinion. i can run through it and blow up all the servers without using a gun and get past it pretty easily

It was dark for them, but looked okay on the stream.
they record the output from the pc which is what we see but your monitor has its own settings brightness/color/etc
^this is also why you cant record screen tearing because screen tearing is from your monitor (not the output signal)

What is up with they repeating "it's a hard game!". Of course, sometimes the jumps don't go as you wanted, but being random don't necessarily makes it harder.
The do not miss jumps because it's random, they miss them because they are hard. That is why they say "it's a hard game!" and not "It's a random game!"

While their intentions on trying to not underplay Daniel's skill in this game are indeed good, I find it quite unnecessary that they have to continuously brag him up throughout the run. You can kind of tell that Daniel didn't really like that at a certain point. It almost feels like he's being demoralized in retrospect.

43:28 was an annoying room to get past on my hard playthrough too many guns
if i played this game step 1 would be to change or mod the FOV ^^ it has the "modern game disease" inherent tunnelvision
Maybe it's just me, or maybe it just seems like that.. but they lose pretty much time kicking doors open or like in the train station where they jump against the pillars.. it really looks like they slow down a lot.

+enio donushi they dont double jump? do you mean kick glitch its basically if you wall run and kick off the wall and spam jump (maybe bind to scroll up) faith can jump again if you do it in runner vision you can see she lands on something mid air (used to stop her glitching through the floor) thats what you jump off it's very hard but extremely useful

I want to know who the idiots are that made Catalyst. All they had to do was leave the game like it was and just give us a new play through and instead they completely downgraded the game. And it took 8 years. I played halfway through it and then i just never felt compelled to go back.
I'm really not a fan of 'glitch' runs of any game. I know taking advantage of them takes skill all in itself but I still don't find them as fun as the no-glitch runs.
Well, they have the people with the best consistent times/world record times here, and that's almost always through glitches, sorry to say. You can look up all these games and find no-glitch speed runs that are just as good, though.
There are two types of runs, 100% and any%. Any% is glitched, and 100% is goes through every level with only abusing movement glitches, usually. Also, reddit.com/r/speedrun.
I love these videos but I think it sucks that it began with a huge mistake by ddaanniieell, it made him lose so much time, and it immediately made the race uninteresting. If I were OverDonkey, I would have waited a bit for him, or restart the race. It's not fun if the race is almost won at the 30th second :/ of course on 45 minutes this mistake doesn't cost a lot, but being late compared to his opponent makes you make mistakes. You're usually better when you're far ahead and have no pressure.
So this race was almost won during the few first seconds.
OvenDonkey could have missed some jumps later on. Then it would be expected for Ddaanniieell to wait for him next? This is not how racing works. And a couple times Ddaanniieell got close but then messed up more times like in the waterfall area. He lost by many mistakes not just the one.
