Hi Tina, I truly appreciate your lesson today. Pat's playing looks so effortless until you start trying to do it yourself, then you realize that hundreds of thousands (probably hundred million now) hours of training, practice with the theory etc, gets you to effortless muscle memory. For someone like me mostly self taught, it really takes theoretical understanding to put the "Melody" in the proper context of the chord changes/progression and with Jazz music. I have a understanding of circle 5ths, but using the chromatic properly in the melody is just going to take more practice. Your lesson actually started to open another window into the playing. I do want to learn more theory now. Thank you so much
Nice job Tina ! I have spent some time working on this beautiful tune ! I have a good unstanding of Music Theory ! I thought you explained it perfectly ! Keep up the good work ! Best wishes, Bobby
Enjoying your video-lessons very much. Trying to get back into playing. Sometimes I just like to study jazz theory. Play, study or both, your videos help keep me going cause they're also fun. Thanks and see in Berlin someday!
Nice video that seems to open up lots of improvisational possibilities for this classic tune. Thanks for putting the work in (so we don’t have to 😅.) ❤ from the UK.
@@tinajackel Yes, you said something about the Aminor on a sharpened 4th? Also a secondary dominant....what's a secondary dominant🤔🤫? Other than that, yes I seem to understand the rest, although i'm novice Jazz player and reader of music, I might just have to invest in the Pat Metheny book😊
min. 6:48 ... "who is playing there?"... To my humble ear it sounds very similar to the phrasings of Miles Davis in "Sketches of Spain -Flamenco Sketches" ua-cam.com/video/nTwp1sgUJrM/v-deo.html ... posible? ... keep up the excellent work!
This is the song Pat metheny tries to peek, build up, litterally ejaculate during this guitar solo. This is Pat methenys facial expression during guitar solo playing live. I cant describe it anyway else. I forget what Pat calls it. A zone when he feels like he knows exactly what to play (Before you play but plenty of time to do so?) Your ahead of it.. . But Pat metheny already knows his fretboard backwards sideways, upside down. Ahead of time, time to play whatever you hear in your head on spot. Astronomical
Good lesson - some of it just a bit beyond my scope, so great to have something to lean into. Love the german accent "coo-il"

That's great!
Great video! Lyle Mays plays the bendy harmonica line on the keyboard.
thank you Jeremy! i am not sure that Lyla Mays plays that solo, i think it is a harmonica player, but who?
@@tinajackel I know it sounds like Toots or Gregoire Maret, but it's Lyle, really! ua-cam.com/video/l4jIbLYE3gQ/v-deo.html
@@jeremydonald5961 Did Lyle base his harmonica sound on Toots Thielemans' sound? That's what I've always thought.
@@twangbarfly Seems like it!

Lyle Mays is playing the synth melodica (or maybe harmonica). Take a dive into his music and a whole new world will open up musically.

Great lesson. I have transcribed and teach a bunch of complete Pat Metheny solos. Drop by if you get a chance.
Where are you from? Will you please tell me some of your favorite guitarists from your region?
i am from Berlin-there are a lot of great guitar players in Berlin: Ronny Graupe Kalle Kalima Attila Mühl check them out 😊
